People who whine about the cutscenes are as silly as somebody skipping the whole of Godfather for the 'action'

Right. If anything, cutscenes develop an attachment for the gamer to the story and characters making the overall experience more memorable and enjoyable as you see these characters struggle and succeed towards an end.

That's what I have found through gaming anyways.

you really need to stop taking the dislike of mgs 4 seriously with your avatar, and signature we can tell you just love the game, I on the otherhand have played it before it was called mgs 1-2-3 its been done before its not a stealth game, and its pretty much just an interactive movie in the end.

Play Metal Gear Solid 4 a second time and skip the cut scenes. Tell me it's an interactive movie then. I find this hilarious people say this. It shows their blind fanboyism. MGS4 has a lot of gameplay. Like I said, play it a second time, skip the cut scenes, look at the gameplay as a whole. Play in The Boss Extreme and tell me it's not a stealth game then.

Upon first playthrough, the highest difficulty is locked (The Boss Extreme) unless you're talking about Big Boss Hard.

And, also, you said MGS4 was a rehash. It isn't. If you've played, hell, MGS1 you would know a big difference. I guess a game that used to be viewed from top-down but now is full 3d is still considered a rehash. I guess new gameplay factors such as OctoCamo aren't new and fresh ideas to change gameplay radically.

Back to the point, MGS4 on Gamerankings is number 69. That is out of all video games. This interactive movie is rated number 69 out of all the video games out there. The hundreds on the PS2, plus the backlog from the NES, PC, SNES, DC, GC, PSone, N64. Out of all those games an interactive movie is only beaten by 68 actual video games.

In conclusion, MGS4 is a video game and not an interactive movie. If you don't like the cutscenes, skip them although the game won't have the same impact that it would if you watched them. But if you would do so, its a game. It can be a shooter/stealth game just like it is if you watched the cutscenes.

If you skipped the movie sequences in an interactive movie you are left with... what?

This game is just poof of what can be done on the PS3 if the developers works at it. We could see many more games later that will be even better. Although there have been some exclusives released on the PS3 that are begining to show what is possible with the system.jimm895

MGS4 is a very good game...I know I have it. I also have all the consoles. But there really is nothing on MGS4 that alone is the best. Frankly, I don't think the graphics are as good as Uncharted, and it is debatable with HS and R&C. That's my opinion of course. Nor do I think the controls/gameplay are as good as _______(insert half a dozen games). And the story is a convoluted mess that only MGS fans can truly appreciate. And the cutscenes are excessive. It could have been crisper, more coherent, and therefore better.

Nevertheless, despite its faults it is a great game. The genius doesn't lie in anyone of the above individual points...it isn't absolute number 1 in any of them. The genius is that it is a very close number 2 (or thereabouts) in ALL of the main aspects of a game. It is the combiantion of all these things that makes MGS4 great.

And the real point is the developers...not the h/w. When you have a huge team talented team and large sums of money, along with time, patience and executive backing, a top notch development team can make magic. But don't kid yourself that it is the h/w. There is no individual part of MGS4 that is even the best, and there is nothing in the game that could not be done on the 360, with the exception of the audio quality...which unless you are the 1% of the pop with 7.1 doesn't really matter.

I'm not trying to defend Lems here, people buy the hype more than what the money was worth for the game . GTA4 for example (yes this debate has been done to death) imo hasn't surpassed san andreas, because san andreas was so much bigger, it had much more things to do, But because GTA4 is "new gen" and has "better graphics" people overhype it to the max, giving that game a 10 was ridiculous.. What i'm saying is, i prefer to go by gamerankings because they are a whole bunch of reveiwers, and its kinda sad seeing loyal GS fanboys blindly go with what this site says only, as if GS was the law itself, dumbasses forget the Kayne and lynch fiasco?

I can empathize. First I will say I complely condemn all the infounded slander struck against MGS4. It's weak and insecure behavior to try and undermine a great game on a competing platform. Something I am proud to say I have never participated in.

But at the same time, this is no different from how Cows relentlessly work to undermine every successful game on the Xbox platform; Halo, GeoW, Forza 2, Ninja Gaiden (before they got Sigma that is), KOTOR, Mass Effect, and on and on.

Both parties share guilt in the propoganda game, and in resorting to other review sites when GS doesn't support their cause, but sticking to the forum rule as an absolute when trying to counter the opposition doing it.

It's just the sad state of affairs here.

I liked GTA IV, mainly because I was playing it more than just watching it. MGS4 is too much watch and not enough play. ZZZ...

i played and beat the game......i found the game to be more action than stealth.......

Plus there's an ingenius device where you can play a second time, and add an ability from the 1st character's class, to the new character that they wouldn't ordinarily have access to, really buffing them up which is only possible playing it twice. It gives a genuine incentive for replay beyond just the achievements :)

RPG's almost ALWAYS tend to always be longer than Action games. My first playthru was 28 hours (On Big Boss Hard, Tranqualizing all bosses and many soldiers). There is also a TON of SECRETS in MGS4 after you beat it...Just like EVERY MGS game. Replay value is through the roof.

I can't accept that. 10/10 means perfect. GS may try and twist it around by calling it prime, but 10/10 means 100% -- perfect. But whatever, I can see why reviewers give out 10's I guess, but I still disagree.

First of all, reviews with numbers is stupid... but that's besides the point.

Second of all... for a game to recieve a 10 in my opinion, it needs to have:
Incredible Graphics, Incredible Sound, Incredible Gameplay, and Incredible Value.

I'd say MGS4 has...

8 in Graphics
10 in Sound
9 in Gameplay
and 8 in Value.

Now this is an 8.75... which is a GOOD game, by all means.

I'd say Halo 3 has...

8 in Graphics
9 in Sound
8 in Gameplay
and 10 in Value.

Now this is also and 8.75, oddly enough.

So both games are GOOD, if not EXCELLENT in my opinion... but definitely do not either warrant a 10.
