What's your take on console RTSs? Do you have fun with them? Have you ever played the counterparts on the PC?
I bring this up because I did notice that RA3 is coming to the PS3, and it's already on the PC. Personally, I really like RA3. It's fun to jump into a ranked 1v1 or a 2v2, pwning face.
However, considering the sheer size of the maps, I find myself making commands all across the map with speed. Sometimes using the minimap, to quickly look at the enemy base. I can't imagine how such a thing would be done with a controller.
Then the fact that I use hotkeys for EVERYTHING. Just for example, I might set all my Anti-air planes to group 3, my Anti-ground air to group 2, my ground units to group 1, Natasha to group 4... etc.
Then there are micros, where i will quickly double click a unit type to make it (a) dodge the enemy (b) switch attack type (c) make it concentrate on a diff target etc.
I really want to know, because I simply don't understand... how do you play these games on a console? Please elaborate.

I turn on my console. I insert the game disc. I sit on the couch with my controller. Really, it isn't that difficult.
Seriously, PC gamers are too focused on comparative issues....because of this they don't get that the RTS genre is now serviceable and enjoyable on a console.
I can make groups like you do above. I can scan the map, like you do. Can I do those things as fast, as efficiently, and as effectively as KB/M? No, of course not. And can I assign a million hot keys? Nope.
But I don't have to do things the same or as well as the KB/M to make the game enjoyable. I am playing the AI, or I am playing other people with similar controls limitations...ergo, it is fair.
I don't care about crazy Koreans able to issue 6 billion commands in 0.5 seconds on Starcraft (example a hermit posted once on why I should hate RTS games on my consoles). Nor do I care whether my console RTS experience is as fast or as dynamic, or even as deep, as what can be found on the PC in general, or the PC version of specific games. I am not comparing my console experience to your PC experience.
Indeed, I don't care about PC gaming at all. I don't harbour any ill will to PC gamers...they like their thing...I like mine. Therefore, I am not obsessed with COMPARATIVE analyses of the RTS genre on PC vs Consoles. It is irrelevant to me, because PC gaming is dead to me.
Consequently, the only thing that matters is whether or not the RTS game in question is available on a console and whether its format and control scheme is workable...in other words, can I enjoy them game...which is the only measure that matters to me. Not theoretical comparisons against choices which are irrelevant to me.
