All cell phones can play games, but can they do it well? ;)
I'll stick to my DS, thanks.

Those pictures are unrepresentative of what iPod games REALLY look like. To get an accurate view, cover up half the picture with your hands, and cover the rest of the screen with fingerprint smudges. ;p
But seriously, those pictures show graphics, but don't convey anything about how the game actually plays.

[QUOTE="RetroBoy17"] Visually, a lot of those games surpass DS in the visual department. O_o I suppose if iPhone games look like GARBAGE, then DS graphics look like SCUMSakusEnvoy
DS games don't look very good anymore, and the same goes for the psp. The psp came out in 2005, i believe, and the ipad barely edges it out(some would argue the psp still looks better). My point is that, for a device released in 2010, it does not impress at all. Mirrors edge honestly looks like a first generation 3DFX Voodoo pc game.
So is apple going to keep these specs on the ipad the same, for gaming? Because that is what makes the ds and the psp a dedicated game console--a user that bought a psp on day one can play the newest psp games in the same way someone that just bought a 3000 can.
In fairness, the original iPhone came out in 2007. Most - probably all - of these games are backwards compatible with all iPod Touches/iPhones, even though the 3GS substantially improved the hardware... (I can't speak for the iPad, but the TC was listing iPhone/iPod games.)The fact of the matter is that a 2g model does not perform as well as the newest one. I've witnessed this first hand. New games will play on the system, but just not in the prettiest fashion.
I played Plants Vs Zombies on the iTouch, and it just felt so perfect. Way better than playing it on PC because it's really made for a pick up and play experience. mo0ksimaybe you should try playing plants vs zombies on the pc with a tablet. i use my art tablet and it feels soooo good :)
For a handheld they look good, however that leaves iPad out to dry. With it's price and size it's not handheld anymore, but a normal full blown gaming system. So while iPhone games look nice, games on iPad look like utter crap graphicaly. Orly? Where is microsofts, nintendos and sonys full blown gaming systems that come in a 10inch screen? The ipad is a mobile device, mainly because its not a console you tether to any monitor or TV. Nice try tho ;)[QUOTE="RetroBoy17"]Visually, a lot of those games surpass DS in the visual department. Gaming laptops >>>>> iPad
Nintendo DS >>>>> iPhone
Yeah, that's right. Crysis. On my laptop.
Apart from the TC sounding like a salesman for Apple, I can't take phones as viable gaming platform until they create complex, ORIGINAL game experiences. Yes, phones can now play game like GTA: CW, but that is a port, not an original creations. The DS and PSP still have great games developed for the ground on they respective platforms.
Most games available for phones are still simple games designed for a more casual audience, not traditional gamers. They may be fun and interesting, but still not on the same level as a game designed for gaming handhelds. Until that happens, iPhone, Andriod etc will not be able to compete.
Yes it does. But buttons on the screen that you are watching the game on? Ew. That's why I only enjoy some of the iPhone games, like Doodle Jump :).fabz_95Not for long, appl esaid they are working on an atachement that surrounds the phone giving external controls.
I can't help but think it would behoove Sony to have Android support for their next PSP, though. The Android Market and App Store have a future far beyond what 'PSP Minis' or 'DSiWare' can ever hope to achieve... and I doubt Nintendo would ever support a foreign operating system.Apart from the TC sounding like a salesman for Apple, I can't take phones as viable gaming platform until they create complex, ORIGINAL game experiences. It's too bad that the iPhone's "gaming controls" are some of the worse controls in existence.
I'll stuck to using my iTouch to listen to music and surf Youtube.
I'm a pcgamer, so your argumentation falls on deaf ears in this case. iPad is as much a mobile gaming system as laptop is. And it's graphics suck compared to laptop. They look like PlayStation 1 visuals, only in higher res and with texture filtering. Which is just plain sad.Orly? Where is microsofts, nintendos and sonys full blown gaming systems that come in a 10inch screen? The ipad is a mobile device, mainly because its not a console you tether to any monitor or TV. Plus what kind of ridiculous argument did you make? So if tomorrow Sony would make 30 inch tablet it would count as mobile solely because it's not connected to TV ?
Apple's iPad seeks to bring the same formula on a much bigger screen with much higher resolution and quadruple the horsepower. It's essentially the first 10 inch screen mobile gaming device that also happens to be a computer. I wouldn't count on writing Apple off in the videogame industry just yet.

I agree on iphone and ipod touch being a decent mobile gaming device but i disagree with this statement here in no way can a ipad be compared to a computer it doesn't even use a real os just the iphone one and many of the functions require you to connect it to a pc/mac to use them, even netbooks have more functionality and are more independent devices.
[QUOTE="treedoor"]
[QUOTE="locopatho"]Possibly a 56k warning required :P But yeah totally agreed, don't see why people have such an issue admitting this...RetroBoy17
No one disagrees that the iPhone has games just like no one disagrees you can find free flash games on websites like Newgrounds and such.
And yes, I am hinting at something here.
Sure, find me a free flash game
No one needs to find them. At least one is in your OP. In fact, I'm playing Canabalt online right now.I have an ipod touch and I've played a lot of the games.
I really don't think it compares to the Nintendo DS. For one, the controls are worse than the PSP (Have you played FF I and II on the iPhone/Touch?). The system also suffers from poor battery life and how hot it gets. It is impressive how powerful such a slim device is though.
