Let's break down the PS3 Q2 sales figures, shall we?

Ok, some posters in here are pushing around "facts" about the PS3 selling 3.5 million hardware units worldwide for the months of July, August and September. Well, let's break down the numbers.

North America as per NPD

Septermber 2010

Playstation 3 - 312,000

August 2010

Playstation 3 - 212,000

July 2010

Playstation 3 - 214,500


Japan Sales numbers as per Media Create

This is Media Create tracking PS3 sales from January 4, 2010 - September 12, 2010 - Total =1,017,094

Those are sales for 9 months, so you have to subtract quite a bit from that to arrive at the July, August and September numbers.

I noticed the PS3 sales approx 20,000 to 25,000 per week in Japan. So let's say they sold in those 3 months 300,000 units.

July, August and September = approx 300,000

Europe Sales figures

I can't find numbers for the PS3 here.

Totals

Let's add up the different regions


US totals = 738,500

Japan totals = 300,000

US and Japan totals = 1,038,500

Europe ?

If you believe the numbers then the PS3 sold 2,461,500 in 3 months in Europe.

That would equal 820,500 hardware units sold per month in Europe.

The PS3 has been out in Europe for over 55 months. If they sold 820,500 for each of those months that would equal an over 45 million installed base in Europe.

We all know that the PS3 has not sold that many consoles even worldwide.

Can someone please explain to me how the PS3 managed to sell 3.5 million consoles worldwide? If you can do a better break down of the different regions then please be my guest.

Those quarterly reports are accurate for shipped consoles, as in sold to retailers and *not* to consumers. It's illegal to lie about such numbers.

Maybe you're doing your math wrong... seeing as how you're not an expert and all. I'm just saying.

Secondly they dont (NPD)track every retailer in the nation, neither does media create, dengeki, or famitsu (i mention these 3 because they always track differently from each other and report different numbers, so there goes your accuracy)3, European tracking is hard to do (because even New Zealand counts as part of the Pal/EU/EMEA region). Plus Japan is not the only country where ps3 is sold in Asia. THey launched in Korea, Taiwan, Dubai, Africa, Thailand and a whole bunch of other countries that receive shipments but zero tracking, Your picture is incomplete. So is that of every other tracker. All we know is that the company ships what retailers wish to buy from them and thats that. Hence retailers by way more ps3's because the demand is obviously higher.

So please i beg of you. Stop the damage control and let it go. Its getting embarassing.

Why don't you do the same with 360 or Wii numbers? Is it because they sold less than the ps3? I believe thats the reason. The most expensive console outselling the cheaper ones. (Just imagine the numbers when ps3 drops to 199? They are selling at the prices of the xbox 360 at launch and pushing way more units

Europe consists of over 40 countries alone..feel free to go hunting most of the time we just see British sales.Theres no single chart for the whole continent.

Europe is getting prepared for the beast that is Gran Turismo 5. It is that simple. This gen will be marked by GT5 the preGT5 era and the era after it.

is canada included in those NPDs? I know they do it seperate sometimes. south america? oceana? the rest of asia? also, you should actually add up japans numbers too.

you should also relaize that europe has always bought more ps3s than the U.S.

Also PNF doesn't believe that the PS3 meets/exceeds demand because the 360 slimline is what people only want.:P When a retailer forecast's their demand, that's when they order for more shipment (aka when the company makes their shipment to the retailer and have a transaction (aka the units being sold for Sony)) but apparentely, it's not logical for Sony's PS3 to have such high demand!:lol:

Alexfia fuzzy math and assumptions of sales is questionable. Take your time get all the numbers for japan/NA and don't assume. Keep in mind we are still missing Europe/Australia/South America too.

And its quarterly sales reports, I highly doubt Sony lied... considering sony is much more than just playstation... the parent company that owns music labels, movies, hardware, software would not lie to its own investors.... The company would be federally investigated, which they aren't... so just take your suspensions send it to the government lol, I am sure they would love to hear your lovely and deadon sales analysis

As we know NPD does not include walmart or online sales, so you can practically double the NA numbers there.
