Let's discuss Spike Tv's VGA RPG nominees

I find it quite funny what they nominated

-Fable III

-Fallout New Vegas

-Final Fantasy XIII

-Mass Effect 2

there's like one RPG, IMO, in the whole group: Fallout!

What do you think should have been nominated and what do you think makes an RPG an RPG? It seems this genre of gaming has the most debate surrounding its qualifications

I think that Valkeria Chronicles II, Dragon Quest IX, and Monster Hunter Tri were snubbed

ME2 is the best RPG in that list.

Pretty "Meh" list. I guess it's gotta go to a popular title :?

New Vegas is the best one on that list (also the best RPG to come out this year). But IO'm wondering where is Monster Hunter 3? I know DQX and 4 Heroes of the Light wouldn't be on the list though since they're handheld titles.

Every game on the list is an "RPG". You develop your character and choose a specific role for the hero in Fable, Shepard in ME2, and the gang in 13.

Oh, and DQ9 should've been nominated. I dont like Monster Hunter (XD) and I havent gotten to play VC 2 (NOOOOOOOOO!)

It's more of a hybrid of genres. It takes from TPS and RPG's and combines them.

It's gonna be Mass Effect.

THe lack of handheld games is explainable by one word:

Mainstream.

Remember, we're talking about America here. Not Japan. Half the "gamers" in our nation wouldn't know wtf DQIX was.

The VGAs aren't about quality, they're about "cool factor".

But I'm still watching them. If only to learn moar about UC3.

Mass Effect 2 isn't an RPG. Pretty good third-person shooter though.

Fable 3 is action adventure, peter said so himself.

What about games like Lunar Silver Star Harmony (one of the best JRPGs I played to date) and Ys? And I would say Star Ocean Second Evolution since it's my personal favorite (even though my UMD literally broke, same with the 1st game) but it's too late for it to be nominated. Yep, all of them are for PSP. The one everybody seems to forget about. I know...they're all JRPGs. But that's my favorite kind. I don't want to play a mix of RPG and FPS (I'm looking at you two, FNV and ME2. Maybe Borderlands too). It just doesn't seem right.tjoeb123
