and look at it from a casual PoV

This christmas

$400 for

GTA4

Halo 3

Gears of War

$600 for

GTA4

MGS4

$250 for

SSBB

these are the bright shiny stars that are System Sellers, I dont wanna hear &(#&% about "Bu bu bu Lair, bu bu bu Mass Effect, Bu Bu Mario Galaxy"

when it comes down to it, System sellers are all that count really, and these games are the ones that will sell millions of copies and millions of consoles, the others are just support

I am talking about people that dont have a console either, GoW is still a huge selling game, oh and speaking of which, anyone think Gears 2 will have a trailer at E3? the game could be 50% done...

Actually you should include Galaxy because that and SSBB are gonna continue to explode the Wii sales..360 will probably sell 1-2 million for Halo 3, and MGS 4 is most likely not coming out this year, but the PS3 will probably reach 5-6 million in sales because of a price drop.

i've always said it. You buy a 360 for the multiplats. You buy a ps3 for the exclusives

There are so many games that can sell systems aside from those. It isn't that simple.

You're insane if you don't think Mario Galaxy will be a system seller.

Marketing decides system sellers, not score. For all we know Mass Effect will be a system seller, we'll see as the marketing campaign starts. And MGS is not a system seller whatsoever. I think MGS3 sold 3 or so million copies with a base of 120 million PS2s. Snake's not exactly Mr. Popular. And Mario will sell, so you better add SMG to the Wii list.

Do you honestly think SMG wont sell systems? SMS sold systems and it was sub-par for a mario game. Mass effect might sell a few systems too if it catches on. and I could see Heavenly sword being a casual hit.

I dont think MGS is a system seller really and I dont think GeoW being released until next christmas because they would be competing with themselves with halo3

Well we know Wii will sell at top more than anybody no matter what games it has....PS3 will probably sell even if it has a high price becuase parents or casuals will think there buying a machine which has alot of potential (which it does.) and 360 will prolly tie with PS3 becuase its decent amount of holiday games and Halo 3..

$250 for

SSBB

supermechakirby

I stopped reading right there. SSBB is probably going to begreat, but since you didn't add Mario Galaxy, you fail hard.

edit: I just decided to read the rest of the post. Wow, you failed harder than I thought. Mario is probably the character that sells the most not only for Nintendo, but throughout the whole videogame industry.

SMS didnt sell crap in comparison to SSBM, becides the GC didnt sell very well at all

strudel420

you fail to understand the system seller attribute, its a game that will make a person buy a whole console, other games are just support

let me hear some of those games your talking about

Actually it did. I'm pretty sure it sold nearly 6 million. I think that is more than any metal gear game on the PS2

SMG and Metroid Prime are both Mulit Platinum selling franchises. SMS sold more than any of the MGS games. Plus if you are looking from purely sales appeal where is Pokemon Battle Revoltion, Wii Health Pack, Wii Play, Mario Party etc ?

Thats a good point, its hard to define what is a system seller for the Wii. Even with games like Zelda and SPM out Wii Sports and Wii Play are the two highest selling games. For all we know SSBB, SMG and MP3 will stink it up sales-wise while Wii Orchestra or whatever sells 10 million copies.

Yup, those are all going to sell very well on the Wii. You should probably add Bioshock onto the 360 list. No, it's not going to sell as well as the others but it will sell over a million. At least that's my guess. And last but not least we have the PS3. Heavenly Sword should be added to the list in my opinion. It has the potential to really ride the coattails of God of War.

I agree on all parts. I would aslo add in Lair (though it depends what kind of advertising dollars Sony put behind it.)

Mass Effect also, between Biowares fantaical following and 360 owners tendancy to buy a million of whatever big game hits that month.

Oh and Splinter Cell of course.

Yup, I'd have to agree again on all accounts. Especially with ME and SC. And believe it or not I think Assassin's Creed will do very well. Just a hunch though. Heh, looks like we didn't simplify anything. ;)

I'm going to downplay the importance of GTAIV. I love the game, and think it will do well, but it probably won't be the killer app we think it will be. My reasoning is that killer apps really don't keep their appeal for longer than a generation. Just look at the killer apps for the PS1: Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, Tomb Raider, and now compair that to the PS2: Grand Theft Auto III, Devil May Cry, God of War.

Their are some exception to this SMB, and grand turismo (yes I know I left it off the list) that have made 2 generations of killer apps, but it's rare.
