The online will be amazing, no doubt about that, but 8.5 is possible.
For one, even though it will be much more polished then the beta, BF3 is a big game. Someone will undoubtedly find a way to annoy us and break the game through a bug or exploit. BC2 was kind of unpolished at launch with the terrible party system never working and OP M60.
Another thing is the campaign. Gamespot isn't going to just review the online, they're reviewing the whole package and I'm not hearing great things about the campaign from people. It looked amazing, but when you realize how it was all meant to look great and maybe not play as great, its unfortunate. I mean, limitless enemy spawns? Incredibly linearity? short campaign? Other then the explosions and more grounded story, its like they ripped off every page from the book of CoD and scribbled over the title with BF3 on it. Heck, at least Call of Duty got rid of limitless spawns.
The co-op also doesn't look that great. It looks incredibly fun, but again, its taking a page from MW. Its like Spec Ops with super annoying main characters and no survival mode.
Finally, expectations. Sure it will get good scores from the hype, but it also means some people might score it lower based on it not reaching the hype for them. you have the above, plus small things that can build up. People complaining about weapons not having as much choice or something, maybe EA servers suck, all that piles up.
I'm still buying it day one, don't get me wrong, but its not the next coming and hopefully people realize that instead of going on internet forums to insult people who like Call of Duty just because they like a different game then them.
