As I personally see it, 8.5 would be an acceptable score for BF3.

Not a bad game of the FPS genre at all, but it simply does not live up to Call of Duty quality.

SHATT3R3D-GLASS

If BF3 and MW3 are anything like their previous iterations, 8.5 is too high for either. If MW3 doesn't have dedicated servers, it should get no higher than a 6.

MW3 has dedicated servers on the PC. And as IW claimed: 'when 30 million people are playing your game, P2P is the best solution' (for consoles).

LOL wut? Dedicated servers, definitely custom ones, are much better.

There have never been, nor will there ever be, 30 million people playing CoD online. If p2p was the best solution, CoD wouldn't be such an assy lagfest online. If p2p was bettter than dedicated servers for CoD, PC gamers wouldn't have demanded dedicated servers be added back into CoD games because they would have been satisfied with p2p.

Additionally, the netcode in CoD is ass as well. On dedicated servers, BO suffers from most of the same problems as it does on p2p. Garbage games are garbage.

I believe it's going to be 8.5 too. It will have a good multiplayer but the campaign will suck bigtime, like BC and BC2. It will lower the score of the game. LustForSoul

single player looks amazing imo

The only flop was using that terrible rush map with horrid chokepoints for the beta map. Thats it, just because public perception is down becaude of rancid operation metro does NOT mean this game is going to be any less amazing. 1 bad map does not a bad game make.

The online will be amazing, no doubt about that, but 8.5 is possible.

For one, even though it will be much more polished then the beta, BF3 is a big game. Someone will undoubtedly find a way to annoy us and break the game through a bug or exploit. BC2 was kind of unpolished at launch with the terrible party system never working and OP M60.

Another thing is the campaign. Gamespot isn't going to just review the online, they're reviewing the whole package and I'm not hearing great things about the campaign from people. It looked amazing, but when you realize how it was all meant to look great and maybe not play as great, its unfortunate. I mean, limitless enemy spawns? Incredibly linearity? short campaign? Other then the explosions and more grounded story, its like they ripped off every page from the book of CoD and scribbled over the title with BF3 on it. Heck, at least Call of Duty got rid of limitless spawns.

The co-op also doesn't look that great. It looks incredibly fun, but again, its taking a page from MW. Its like Spec Ops with super annoying main characters and no survival mode.

Finally, expectations. Sure it will get good scores from the hype, but it also means some people might score it lower based on it not reaching the hype for them. you have the above, plus small things that can build up. People complaining about weapons not having as much choice or something, maybe EA servers suck, all that piles up.

I'm still buying it day one, don't get me wrong, but its not the next coming and hopefully people realize that instead of going on internet forums to insult people who like Call of Duty just because they like a different game then them.

That "rancid" Operation Metro is made by the same people who made the rest of the game. Why wouldn't people assume the rest of the game will be similar in terms of quality?

Is it often the case that decent console versions released simultaneously with PC score less than PC versions of games? If it happens with BF3 it will be the first time I've heard of it happening.

It's designed with a different game mode in mind. He doesn't like Rush and therefore doesn't like that map. Caspian Border has zero choke points.

Actually for all I know the TC is right. I'm pretty much new here so I don't know how ratings work yet. Can someone explain to me Gamespot would give BC2 a 9 and then give a lesser score to asuccessor game which improves upon it dramatically?

If it gets a 9 on consoles I wont take this site seriously anymore, the lack of effort they put forth on the consoles outdated tech or not is amazing.

In reality I will bet that this will get a 8.5 and those glitches that all the bf3 defenders kept saying would be fixed will realize that many of them were not fixed

For PC its going to be a 9 or above. Seriously once the bugs are smoothed out, the gameplay is pure quality. It is VERY intense and this intensity will go up once new maps are experienced, and the game is played with a team that is focused on objectives( the people who will actually buy the game and play for more than 2 weeks). Unlocks take a while to achieve giving it long term replay value, tons of gameplay areas someone can focus on( particular classes, vehicles, etc), visually stunning. Maybe for consoles it will flop hard, I don't know.

It's not anything special. It's just another entry in the Battlefield series. It's just another FPS online multiplayer military shooter. We already have 9000 of these. Sure it will have some of the best, if not the best multiplayer for a FPS game. But beyond that it's just typical. The campaign will suck yet again. That's all there is to it.

Plus Battlefield has held the throne as best military online multiplayer shooter for like 7 years. So it's not exactly anything new. The only thing that I am happy about when it comes to this new entry is that they are fixing many issues with these sorts of games like suppressive fire, that should really add to it. The sniper glare is something I am happy to see. Should cut down on snipers in a match, or atleast get them to move around more.

A few other things as well that I can't remember as well.

I take it that the TC never played BC2 to see that BF3's core gameplay best BC2 very noticeably. 1st off, the movement/controls are WAY more fluid in BF3 than in BC2, Don't get me wrong, BC2's movement/control was great to me and all, but when compared to CoD, BC2's control and movement wasn't anywhere near fluid as CoD''s, but in BF3, CoD just may have some competition in that regard, and adding prone brings all kinds of new strategies, that was clearly absent in BC2. 2ndly, the massive customization and unlockables in BF3 makes BC2's unlocks seems like a 8 hour game. I don't know what's the lvl cap in BC2, but I can sure enough tell you that I unlocked all the vehicles abilities, and unlocked EVERY single class abilities and weapons in BC2 before I reached lvl 30, and I think that lvl 25 is the last lvl you can unlock an item (basing off of lvl that is). BF3 seems like it's going to be FOREVER before I can lvl 1 class. Now that "!)) hours a class" statement doesn't seem too far fetched after all.

I have tons more on how BF3 core gameplay minus the bugs from the beta can best BC2 by far, but there will be a Great Wall of Text here, so I'll stop it here.;)

Way too overhyped. I enjoyed BFBC1 & 2 and BF3 follows the same Gameplay style but I don't think it will be as groundbreaking as DICE/EA claims it will be. If you've played the beta then chances are you've realized the level of destruction that made the Battlefield franchise so great has dropped significantly (though it could've been the map selection). I'll honestly be surprised if it scores higher than an 8.5 with Gamespot. They put everybody's expectations way up high but as of now are failing to meet them in almost every way. So many clips from the campaign are misleading to what the MP gameplay offers. Here'sa fewexamples: Explosive shockwave effects knocking people to the ground; Dragging injured teammates to safety for first-aid; the collapse of the multi-story buildings

I think it will still have success but it irritates me that since Modern Warfare was released (as much as we all dislike it now) this franchise has been attempting to rebuild it's name by slandering it's opponent rather than offering it's best. If you've played through the Bad Company Campaignsand understand the subtle jokes then you know they are directed towards CoD. It's like they slopped a campaign together in hopes that gamers would enjoy the parody and madeno effort towrite a quality story

A game doesn't have to do anything new to get a 10, it can just be a ridiculously well made game, saying that though Battlefield 3 doesn't seem like that good a game, which is a more likely reason for an 8-8.5 score.

Destruction isn't what made BF great. Excellent multiplayer is why BF is a big name series and BF3 still has that. It also has more destruction than BF2 to which this game is a sequel. Caspian Border has about the same destruction as BFBC2 did as well.

battlefield 3 is amazing :o i concluded that after 10 hours of caspian borders 64 players conquest. dedicated servers connection, i got like a next generation's feeling with this game. Physics, gunplay, flawless movement, simulated yet fun vehicle controls, destruction and the graphics on ultra settings=all on another level=>improved and tuned bc2 weapon system with battlefield 2 mixed in the gameplay elements=dovunt=>Beta is glitchty but tbh just amazing.

U JUST MAD BRO :C

I actually wouldn't be surprised. And frankly, I don't really care what kind of score it gets because I am tired of everyone trying to copy Modern Warfare. I'm getting very bored of military FPS, and Battlefield 3 doesn't look like it's going to break the mold. If MW3 is not enough to get me excited to wade through rubble trying to shoot at the bad men with funny accents, then I don't see why BF3 will be. They should go back to the 2142 version, because that was actually interesting.Timstuff
Finally someone I can relate to :P

I have to say I was less than impressed with the console experience and I'm not talking about random glitches or sub prime graphics, one of my biggest complaints is the way the guns actualy feel when running around they just seem very.....floaty, now regardless of what the game scores there has been alot of negative feedback which you can be sure is going to hurt sales simply from word of mouth. Overall you can bet there are some nervous people in EA atm.

This game is going to flop. Now, I am well aware of what a "flop" means, but seriously guys, the hype needs to be toned down. This game is not getting any higher than an 8.5.

The game literally does NOTHING new, nothing that we havent seen before either in BC2 or in other games (and in alot of ways it is inferior to BC2). Is there anybody here who actually thinks BF3 is going to be GOTY quality? Im not trolling, I am being serious. I do not see this game scoring anyting highert than 8.5 on consoles, and to be honest, I woudnt be supurised to see the same scenario as Medal of Honor (7.5).

Does anybody else see a flop incomming?

The game will most likey receive 9 based on a superior online experience and a singleplayer experience on par with the BC games. I honestly woulnd't be surprised. But truth be told - I had a blast with BF3 Beta (PC) and I'm certain I will so with the retail version. 4 friends in tanks on 64 player servers = best time ever.

Cod doing nothing new hasn't stopped it from getting a 9 every year.

[QUOTE="ermacness"]

Nope, never played Bad Company 2 ;)

All that did was just made your claims that much more absurd.

Really, what difference does a score make? The game will either be fun or it won't.

Best part about the original post? He says the game will 'flop' but then says it scores 8-8.5(without playing it, naturally)...An 8 wouldn't exactly register as a 'flop' in the first place....

Flop is when something doesn't meet its hype. If a game was hyped AAA and scores AA then it flopped.

I don't think it will be GOTY. It's just a shooter, a damn good one though, but really it doesn't seem like a big improvement for the genre like something like Skyrim.

I love how you make 2 assumptions in one post about 2 games that aren't even out yet.
