I'm okay with it, LR has really impressed me and as far as interesting female characters she is actually waaaaay more fleshed out than most female characters in western or japanese games. Lightning meets up with old friends in LR and so far every encounter has been great. Noel is probably my favorite character out of all FF right up there next to Zidane.
Fine by me i dont mind lighting she's pretty cool and attractive :P.. but what about Serah? :(

Why is SE so obsessed with the XIII universe and Lightning? It's like they're just being stubborn at this point. "If we just keep pushing this shit, eventually they'll have to like it!"... wtf man. I wouldn't even put Lightning in my top 40 characters of the series.
Played a bit of FFXIV today and did a quick FATE at Coerthas Highlands and when the mob died there was some flavour RP text about Lightning...
Wish i could remember exactly what it said but i remember thinking wtf when i saw it since it's been a month or two since i played the game.

For an FF game, it's way more important to get the gameplay and story right, which Square Enix have consistently failed to do with the XIII games.

2. Aerith is the most popular female character from the most popular FF game, and was at the core of its most iconic scene. No surprises there.
3. Yuna is the most popular female character from Japan's most-loved FF game. Let's not forget the 2006 Famitsu poll, where Japanese fans voted FFX the greatest game of all time.

What do you mean botched? Why would a magazine have an agenda to promote different characters from the same series? I think you're taking this a bit too seriously.
To promote what they think of something or rig it so it stirs peoples jimmies and create hits (come on you should know this). Also a no named magazine claiming "Japan has spoken who's their fav character" is like Gamefaqs doing one of their polls claiming "Americans have spoken who's their fav video game character is".
There's characters on that poll that shouldn't even be on there (Seriously Edgar?) while there's characters that I mine you who are pretty damn popular among FF fans around the world who aren't even on the list. For example Lulu is a pretty damn popular character among male FF fans, specially in NA and even Japan.
