Like Sony, Nintendo is going anti consumer again. Big Nintendo fan but I have to call them out on it.

I love my Switch, it is one of the best consoles Nintendo has made IMHO. Of course I wish the games were cheaper, they were faster in porting Wii U games to it, had a little better battery and a little more power. There is one thing that feels like it is just missing but I know it's coming and that is netflix, youtube and a browser.

Now here comes the problem, Nintendo is taking a page out of Sony's book and they want you to buy your games all over again. Just like Sony asks you every gen to buy your old games again for their new system, Nintendo is going that route here I fear.

Notice how they don't have a Virtual Console which just boggles the mind until you realize what they are doing. The reason they don't have a Virtual Console is because they are getting rid of Virtual Console. Not getting rid of old classic Nintendo games, you will be able to buy them again with their online service that is launching next month.

They are just getting rid of the Virtual Console so that means anyone who has a massive catalog of VC games can't demand that Nintendo doesn't charge them for the ones they already own because technically VC won't exist. VC will remain with the Wii, Wii U and 3DS. You will have to subscribe to the Nintendo Switch Online service launching next month if you want old NES games. More will be added regularly they say. Maybe next they will add SNES, N64 and GameCube games but at what cost?

Why can't Nintendo just add the Virtual Console to the Switch with as many old NES, SNES, N64 and GameCube games as possible and let us keep the ones we already own and buy as many as we want? It seems the only reason they won't include the VC is not because people don't want it, it's because they don't think they can make enough money off of it to be worth the effort.

*raises eyebrow*

Are you for real right now or just trolling?

Nintendo has been raping consumers for generations on having them rebuy games. Both Sony and Microsoft have been on the remaster train since last gen.

Also... the most anti-consumer company was Microsoft at the 2013 E3 annnouncement of X1. They got such massive backlash that they had to back peddle hard. It's taken them 5 years to really turn that sinking ship back to shore and rethink their strategy for the next gen.

Thats pretty rotten decision from Nintendo. But not surprising. Nintendo has always been the greediest and the unfairest of the big three.

@Telekill: MS might have had a bad start to the gen, but they are easily the most consumer friendly out of the 3 now.

As for Nintendo, they've been doing this for years.

@Xplode_games: sigh... these are consoles !

If "pc" was bounded buy a single company you think bc would still be so prominent ?

Hell no.

Xboxs little bc simulations are nothing short of desperation. Mind you it connects with pc for extra profits.

Ms's doubtfire is available on bluray.

There nothing wrong with reselling OLD products.

If i step on a cats foot and then feed it a good treat after. Would you wonder why other ppl havent giving treats to the cat aswell ?

Nothing tops Microsoft's levels of anti consumerism imo. But even their not too bad. Most gamers are spoiled.

Once (if) there in 1st place again a lot of things will be online based etc. Restrictions everywhere.

I'll kick back where i know its safe with nice AAA 3rd parties in the mix. (playstation)

They dont exxagerate the content of their games with cheap online legs either.

Is this you still whining about crossplay? It's not happening and it doesn't do anything for me as a consumer. Well, scratch that, it does. To see you bleat like a little piggy about it while I lulz.

You only just realised Nintendo loves to take the piss out of their own consumers. Only slightly behind Microsoft in that respect.

MS like to pretend they have the morality when they do shit like backwards compatibility, but then they **** it all up by releasing substandard games and empty promises.

It's really fucking sad Sony is the winner by default when they are not exactly the best either, the pay to play online thing pisses me off so much, releasing games like Gran Turismo where you can't save unless you are connected to the server (which requires continuous updates including firmware updates), is a shitty move, I don't give a **** about online multiplayer stop forcing me to update to save my fucking game.

Nintendo and Apple have sheep who will pay their anti-consumer prices and accept their anti-consumer practices, that's their business model.

Still think it's anti consumer thought.

More options for gamers = pro consumer

Less = anti consumer

Nintendo annoys me alot, the most out of the big 3. Over priced everything, refuses to drop prices on just about anything and always behind the curve with hardware + online.

Sony is in 2nd. I gotta rebuy PS2 games that I already bought on PS3 to play em on PS4? FU.

I like what MS has done with bc so they're ok in my book ... for now.

Dude, I've been a Sony fangirl for ages and I've never had to buy all my games twice. All the ps1 games and psp have been carried on across platforms. Sometimes I wonder if the lack of BC on systems is less by a decision not to and more because of barriers created by short term thinking with regard to negotiating the terms of how older BC titles were brought to those systems made it harder to carry over purchases. But yeah, given their history on the matter, I would not expect my purchases on Wii, Wii U, and 3DS to be honored on another system. Which is why I am not buying digital content on my Switch outside of expansions.

you mean like the crash remaster? perfect dark remaster, golden eye reloaded, shadow colossus remaster, tomb raider anniversary, mortal kombat arcade kollection. street fighter anniversary collection and the list goes on and on.

everyone does it. not just nintendo. sony got ps1 games and ps2 games on PSN. removed ps1/ps2 compatibility on PS3.

everyone is money hungry cashing in on nostalgia.

its just that nintendo were kings of the 80s before playstation was born. so nintendo has more nostalgia content.

Yeah, but this is a nintendo discussion and the guy only realize this how Nintendo is master at ripping off on nostalgia.

Also, sony never really remove PS1/PS2 PSN games on PS3 unless license expiry. you probably meant the PS3 BC.

I probably spent around $100 on virtual console games on Wii. Never bought any on 3DS or WiiU though for that reason.

I did buy NES and SNES Classics and I will get N64 day one, but that's with the intention of not buying any classic games on Switch.

This is the problem with gamers who just hate Nintendo. They think Nintendo gets away with everything when they're criticized constantly. Literally the scenario:

*Nintendo puts their pinky toe out of line.*

Some Nintendo fans: meh, it's just a pinky toe. Though I'd be worried if they put their whole foot out of line.

Other Nintendo fans: I don't like this... If they get away with this, then they might be tempted to step completely out of line.

Weird hardcore Nintendo fans: Um, is that a fucking toe out of line?! You don't get to cross ANY part of your body over the line unless you have Metroid/F-Zero/Zelda/every AAA third party game in existence!

Nintendo haters: (ignores the fans complaining) See, Nintendo gets away with everything!

Other scenario:

*Microsoft and Sony cross the line by a fucking mile*

Sony fanboys: OMG! Not a big deal! Lems/sheep are just jealous of our sales!

Microsoft fanboys: Crossing the line is the future of gaming!

I generally agree with such sentiment, but the difference with Nintendo is they've cultivated a strong base with beloved IPs combined with nostalgia that makes them able to get away with things other companies would never be allowed to. Nintendo has the benefit of the best of memories of our childhoods deep down in us. That makes many defend and support them no matter what, even past their better discretions.

People support Nintendo in spite of their business practices, not because of them. I don't think the idealism of "speak with your wallet" really applies. As long as they make good games, they will survive.

You know it's not just Labo. Labo was just the cherry on top. It's...

Not making more of their previous library available for sale. When they shut go and shut down ROM sites, people expect this from them.

Bad storage space on every modern Nintendo console.

Fake shortages.

Prices don't depreciate like they should. Actively encouraging a scalpers market. This is why people flooded the market with bootleg cartridges.

Straight up Amiibo abuse.

It's not going to be the same thing because most PS4 owners that play Fortnite will continue to play it on PS4. The thing is, Sony didn't get away with it, they just don't think it's enough of a problem to do anything about. They're pretty bullish on PSN being closed to the other console networks. They're priority isn't to do anything for people that buy other platforms. It is what it is. Sony and Epic should come to some sort of resolve on cross-progression between PS4 and Switch, but the wheels aren't turning on that.

As it stands, charging people for $80 bucks for chintzy software and paper is a step too far, and the market responded in kind. I sure as hell wouldn't be hyping this up if Sony did it. I can't even get behind PSVR... and that involves actual technology and games. Nintendo is the least consumer friendly of the big three. Sharing a network with a couple of game that are on Xbox too doesn't change that.

@boycie: Which console has more crossplay games: PS4, Xbox one, or Switch? The answer might boggle your mind! Lol If you're referring to Xbox playing with Switch, why is only a handful of games?(3-4 I think?) And a better question, why isn't Xbox allowing some games to be played with PC, whereas PS4 does?(FFXIV comes to mind but there a dozens of them... Look at wikipedia for a list)

I don't remember Nintendo ever being consumer friendly to be honest.

The ones I bolded are the only great arguments you have made, the rest is bullshit and you know it. The first one does suck and they do need to do something for their retro fans other than shoehorning their games into the online service. I personally think they should separate them because some people who want access to their old games may not care for the online service and vice versa.

32 GB storage is worse than a smartphone, and that's just sad. I honestly think they should have at least 64 GB (but personally 128 GB). The only slight defense is that SD cards aren't too expensive and you buy them for phones anyway. Still, 32 GB in 2018 is abysmal for consoles.

Fake shortages makes no sense. Why would Nintendo delay their profits for no reason? What would an artificial shortage do other than make people mad? Nintendo and/or retailers just underestimated how popular their product would be, so they had to scramble to meet demand in a timely manner. That would be like Sony going on to sell about 3 million consoles in China at the end of 2021. They figure they can sell 6 million PS5s, so they stock accordingly. Let's say 10 million Chinese gamers want their console. That would be like them accusing Sony of creating an artificial shortage. Like sure, companies LOVE delaying profits made. That makes total sense!

Why would they cut the price of a console selling like hotcakes? Wait a minute... You're saying depreciate. I'm not sure I follow you here. You want their products to depreciate in value so that scalpers don't sell them out for a higher price? How is that Nintendo's fault? That's like blaming Beyonce and Jay Z that scalpers sell their tickets for a $200 profit on the Internet.

They hardly even use Amiibo anymore.

So they're the most anti-consumer because of low storage space and shutting down ROM sites?

I love it how people think any of the big 3 are "customer friendly." All they care about is money people. Grow up. Do you guys really think Sony or MS are any better? Can people really be this dense?

@FinalFighters: You dont have to buy them again on your ps4, play them on your ps2. Not a hard concept to understand or figure out.

Evils? None of them are evil. They are just businesses. They work in their crafts and provide us with countless hours of entertainment in the process. They also happen to be publicly traded companies that have to answer to share holders. That is not fun for them, it is what they have to do to remain viable.

Do you remember when Sony was going Bankrupt a few years back? They sold off much of the company including Sony Online Entertainment. They gave up on The entire Everquest Franchise, H1Z1, Planetside, and DC universe and sold it to the worst company ever (Daybreak). Sony knew that it would ruin all of those games forever, but they had to. I was so pissed at Sony for it, and that was not exactly pro customer, but they had to do it to please share holders. Shareholders thought that MS with the anti-game sharing crap at the start of this gen was going to work out for them, and it backfired bigtime. Why does Nintendo sell games that have been out for OVER A YEAR without dropping the price? The shareholders see that it works and demand returns and this gets returns.

Evil is a child's word when talking about business. It is all about profit and returns for shareholders. Nothing more, nothing less.

The whole "consumer friendly" shtick between Sony and Microsoft is nothing new. The company playing catch up is always The "good guy"

Last gen PS was behind and we got free PSN, the free games program on ps+, and some awesome games. MS hid netflix behind a live paywall, and charged DLC packs for free content on PC (left 4 dead)

This gen is the opposite because MS is behind. Nintendo on the other hand, seems to do what they want. Remember when they sold a handheld without a charger because it was cheaper? With the classic consoles selling so well, I bet Nintendo knows they can make more money selling old games again because people will buy them again.

Are you just taking the term "evil" too literally or not understanding what the phrase "the lesser of three evils" mean?
