Like Sony, Nintendo is going anti consumer again. Big Nintendo fan but I have to call them out on it.

Not at all, I just feel that many forget that all of the publicly traded companies are in it for the returns. That dictates the vast majority of the decisions.

For me the most customer friendly gaming company invests the most in quality games because that's what gamers want: good games. MS is the least gamer friendly of the three this gen by far. Of course non gamers will focus in other aspects i guess.

I love it how people think any of the big 3 are "customer friendly." All they care about is money people. Grow up. Do you guys really think Sony or MS are any better? Can people really be this dense?

It honestly just boggles my mind that people think that Nintendo's the only or most anti consumer company out of the bunch and that they get away with everything while everyone else is drug for filth. Nintendo is constantly criticized and they have had their share of flops.

You know it's not just Labo. Labo was just the cherry on top. It's...

Not making more of their previous library available for sale. When they shut go and shut down ROM sites, people expect this from them.

Bad storage space on every modern Nintendo console.

Fake shortages.

Prices don't depreciate like they should. Actively encouraging a scalpers market. This is why people flooded the market with bootleg cartridges.

Straight up Amiibo abuse.

It's not going to be the same thing because most PS4 owners that play Fortnite will continue to play it on PS4. The thing is, Sony didn't get away with it, they just don't think it's enough of a problem to do anything about. They're pretty bullish on PSN being closed to the other console networks. They're priority isn't to do anything for people that buy other platforms. It is what it is. Sony and Epic should come to some sort of resolve on cross-progression between PS4 and Switch, but the wheels aren't turning on that.

As it stands, charging people for $80 bucks for chintzy software and paper is a step too far, and the market responded in kind. I sure as hell wouldn't be hyping this up if Sony did it. I can't even get behind PSVR... and that involves actual technology and games. Nintendo is the least consumer friendly of the big three. Sharing a network with a couple of game that are on Xbox too doesn't change that.

The ones I bolded are the only great arguments you have made, the rest is bullshit and you know it. The first one does suck and they do need to do something for their retro fans other than shoehorning their games into the online service. I personally think they should separate them because some people who want access to their old games may not care for the online service and vice versa.

32 GB storage is worse than a smartphone, and that's just sad. I honestly think they should have at least 64 GB (but personally 128 GB). The only slight defense is that SD cards aren't too expensive and you buy them for phones anyway. Still, 32 GB in 2018 is abysmal for consoles.

Fake shortages makes no sense. Why would Nintendo delay their profits for no reason? What would an artificial shortage do other than make people mad? Nintendo and/or retailers just underestimated how popular their product would be, so they had to scramble to meet demand in a timely manner. That would be like Sony going on to sell about 3 million consoles in China at the end of 2021. They figure they can sell 6 million PS5s, so they stock accordingly. Let's say 10 million Chinese gamers want their console. That would be like them accusing Sony of creating an artificial shortage. Like sure, companies LOVE delaying profits made. That makes total sense!

Why would they cut the price of a console selling like hotcakes? Wait a minute... You're saying depreciate. I'm not sure I follow you here. You want their products to depreciate in value so that scalpers don't sell them out for a higher price? How is that Nintendo's fault? That's like blaming Beyonce and Jay Z that scalpers sell their tickets for a $200 profit on the Internet.

They hardly even use Amiibo anymore.

So they're the most anti-consumer because of low storage space and shutting down ROM sites?

You don't know the purpose of creating false demand? Sure people get mad, but they'll wait. Especially Nintendo fans, who are really financially predatory by nature due to these very practices. When Nintendo shortchanges the market on NES shipments, that creates a frenzy for them next time. Nintendo knows they can ship an ample number of units to satisfy the market. There's no excuse. And to defend that is only enabling them. This is why the scalpers tend to make out like bandits.

Nintendo, in Japan, had been purposely holding back shipments of Switch for strategic purposes back when there was a lottery for the system. They should have easily reallocated shipments where the console had far less demand worldwide to provide for their prime market. But they didn't, because news of feeding frenzies for the console creates better headlines and demands. Marketing 101 kind of shit here.

And I'm not talking about them cutting the price of the console or games or anything related to the platform NOW while it's selling well. I just mean in general. Nintendo hates slashing prices, when a product is doing well or not. Paying full price for chintzy games far after the fact reeks of miserly behavior. They only time they made a desperate price slashing move in recent memory was for the 3DS, because they wanted to make sure the Vita would gain NO ground on the console... and that shit worked.

Not saying Nintendo has to make moves like that all the time. But it ensures they can maintain new users all the time by making their items more affordable over time. There's nothing wrong with that.

If they had a VC: OMG ONLY OLD GAMES ON SWITCH LULZ.

If they don't have one: OMG NO VC NINTENDO IS LAME LULZ.

They can't win, and letting the VC die so that Nindies can reign supreme is both a genius move and a commitment to indies on the switch.

But you will complain either way.

And Nintendo wonders why people turn to ROMs. "Oh my god, those people want our product for nothing! Oh, by the way, buy this game that hasn't been altered since 1987 for the sixth time because you don't actually own the games you buy."

Or, or, or! They could have just underestimated the demand. The same thing happened with the Wii. Retailers had little shelf space for them because the N64 and GameCube were both flops. To their surprise, the Wii is selling like hotcakes. That's not a fake shortage, that's just underestimating how popular a product is.

I understand the argument for games, especially the Wii U ports.

You can do both. Drop the VC branding and keep Nintendo Classics. Much better name for it. Pay a fee per year to access them and then keep the channel for indies. Put a filter system and have a recommendation system. That way you can look at more indie games by genre and have games recommended to you that you would have otherwise overlooked. That's the best way to support indies.

I have the PS3 launch model, which can play PS1 and PS2 games. The only time I ever played the PS1 and PS2 games on it, was to simply try them out to see if they worked.

Having said that, I like the moves Microsoft are making now. But they are only making them because they messed up.

The last gen was so long that there are gamers with huge backlogs of games and gaming hasn't really moved on much apart from slightly better graphics.

I don't think they have the info to even do what you want. I know that's bad, not saying it isn't. This may be the first time your games will be yours for over 1 generation, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Wouldn't work. Nintendo steals the spotlight on their systems. This is what third parties hate. Backing off and letting Nindies take over the eshop is best for now. They've made enough on those old games and gamers have already played them to death. VC didn't save the Wii U so really it's probably a dead concept. Also, that's what the mini nes and snes are for.

Yep! Nintendo "fans" are similar to Star Wars fans in that regard.

you mean like the crash remaster? perfect dark remaster, golden eye reloaded, shadow colossus remaster, tomb raider anniversary, mortal kombat arcade kollection. street fighter anniversary collection and the list goes on and on.

everyone does it. not just nintendo. sony got ps1 games and ps2 games on PSN. removed ps1/ps2 compatibility on PS3.

everyone is money hungry cashing in on nostalgia.

its just that nintendo were kings of the 80s before playstation was born. so nintendo has more nostalgia content.

This is the problem with gamers who just hate Nintendo. They think Nintendo gets away with everything when they're criticized constantly. Literally the scenario:

*Nintendo puts their pinky toe out of line.*

Some Nintendo fans: meh, it's just a pinky toe. Though I'd be worried if they put their whole foot out of line.

Other Nintendo fans: I don't like this... If they get away with this, then they might be tempted to step completely out of line.

Weird hardcore Nintendo fans: Um, is that a fucking toe out of line?! You don't get to cross ANY part of your body over the line unless you have Metroid/F-Zero/Zelda/every AAA third party game in existence!

Nintendo haters: (ignores the fans complaining) See, Nintendo gets away with everything!

Other scenario:

*Microsoft and Sony cross the line by a fucking mile*

Sony fanboys: OMG! Not a big deal! Lems/sheep are just jealous of our sales!

Microsoft fanboys: Crossing the line is the future of gaming!

How the "Nintendo gets away with everything!" line hasn't died after the FTC (under the admin of one of the biggest con men in the world right now) got on their asses is beyond me.
