... Not really.. The majority of games you can get working running compatibility mode, I don't see how windows 10 would be any different in this regard.

You just contradicted yourself. You say there is no problem with early adopting an OS when you said, "not really"...but then go on to admit that a portion games may not function and you speak about work arounds for some a majority of games, BUT not all the games people would own, just a majority. You are operating under a hypothetical since Win10 hasn't launched....in a thread about games that may or may not work with Windows 10.

Who's talking majority? It's all the games or nothing. If just a single game you purchased doesn't work, it's an issue. We can all see above it's more than just a single game that may present problems.

Those that adopt an OS early are going to experience issues as patches roll in for games and many other programs as well. This is well known for decades. I'm not sure if you are trying to justify an early adoption or what. I got a free Windows 10 upgrade coming my way too for all four of my gaming PCs, BUT I'm not certain I'm going to jump on board yet.

I made a general statement that applies to early adopters of Operating Systems. You should quote the TC and talk to him about his list of games that may not work with Win10. I don't know why I was quoted as this isn't my thread. This is all standard fare.

If you adopt an OS early, expect problems/issues. Some will be quicks fixes and others will be complained about for years.

.. I am sorry but what? We are talking about the past 30 years of pc games here.. Even now Windows 7 and 8 will not run certain games inless you use dosbox or use certain compatibility programs/patchs..

Right...so you admit there are issues and work arounds for select games, which we both know about.

I would imagine 99% in this thread know about work arounds and patches for games so I am not sure what this has to do with the price of tea in China?

My initial statement is still accurate.

This is the problem with early adopting an OS.

If you don't see it as a problem, good on you, but that doesn't change the fact that others see it as a problem. That's why this thread was created, to enlighten people as to the potential issues with their current game libraries.

Anyways, have a good one.

@senses_fail_06: yes I have them installed, I have tested everyone as I start them the minute installation completes, load up to a menu screen then quit out, that way if a game happens to have issues I can fix it straight away. I haven't had issues beyond what win7 etc have from bad ports etc.

I'm sure the few hundred people still playing the games that aren't working properly will be severely pissed off.

Holding out hope for windows 10.

My 6 year old Dell has seen better days but 8 really didn't interest me (that and I didn't have the money for an upgrade :P)

If it wasn't for a clean install onto an SSD that replaced the old HDD i'd have had to go for 8 a long time ago

This is what i was afraid of. I don't care if its a handful of games it 100% compatible or no buy. I love older games. No way am i going to be stuck not being able to play my baldurs gate, torment, fallouts, system shock, theif, deus ex, etc... I don't care about new console ports only about older pc exclusives, and especially ones from pre-2007.

Screw you ms... get your shit together or get out!

There are always VMs. Honestly, I can't think of a single game I have not been able to get running one way or the other in W8.1; and it's not like that features perfect "B/C".

@GarGx1: not everyone pc gamer plays mobas or the latest console ports. I play strategy games, rpgs , newer kickstarter funded games, indies, rts, and older games.made when pc games were made front and center, either exclusive or downgraded in both gameplay and graphics to console... i dont play any console ports on pc or the horrible multiplayer only genres like moba.

That being said, games like thief and baldurs gate, kotor etc... are timeless and still have communities making content. Its not just a hundred people.

I grew up im the 80s with pc gaming and was there for wolf3d wing commander , civikization, ultima and doom, at the dawn of 3d acceleration with 3dfx. I was there for quake and ut, thief etc... and i was there for crysis and stalker ...

and i was there in the modern era when ms disbandrd all pc devs and charged for online play, making every AAA exclusive focus on 360 instead of pc.

If i cant play my legacy collection of games thrn the os can go to hell, plain and simple.

I am sorry but this doesn't compare.. This isn't Windows 7 or 8.. In which it opens up to people to buy, not giving as large incentive to update as fast as this one.. This is being given FREE to every person out there who owns windows 7 or 8.. You cannot compare them to earlier OS's because there has never been a OS that has been freely given out to every one basically.. Come the date of the release, the vast majority of pc gamers are going to jump onto the wagon..

You're presuming an awful lot from a single sentence!

I replayed Kotor and Kotor 2 a few months back, probably my 5th or 6th play through. I still love those games but it wasn't exactly straight forward getting either of them running properly at 1080p, a resolution neither were ever designed to cope with. PC has excellent backward compatibility but we'll always be at the mercy of time and advancement and a lot of classic old titles were just not designed with 2015 tech in mind. Unfortunately the games are static but the technology is not.

Personally I've been gaming since 1975 (when I was 5 years old) I've come through Spectrum's (ZX81, 32, 128), Commodore 64, Amiga etc. my first PC self build was in 1990 and yes I've been there for the release of all the classic id, Firaxis, Blue Byte, Sierra, Origin, Digital Anvil games (actually Wing Commander and Chris Roberts is the reason why I'm a Star Citizen Golden Ticket holder/Original Backer/Subscriber with Concierge access). On top of that my favourite games series by far is Total War (I've spent hundreds of hours playing each one of the core series since Shogun), so please don't tar me the "only plays Mobas and latest console ports" brush.

You'll be able to play your legacy/infinity engine games, windows 10 will not disable them for ever if, at all. After all it's really just an advancement on Win 8, which was a tweaking of Win 7 with a really shit U.I. They've not reinvented the wheel just put new tyres on it. Personally I'm hopeful that the DX12 advancements are worth the teething problems that come with all new operating system versions

Eh, no need to upgrade when 7 is working fine for me.

I might upgrade my work laptop to Windows 10 to play with the OS.

I haven't been able to run Killing Floor 2 since I upgraded to Win10 last week.

I tried admin rights, compatibility mode, etc. and nada. Verify game files and run and it works but change any settings and restart the game, nope. Won't run other than being a background process.

Microsoft disbanded only the PC developers it published games for which weren't a lot. Microsoft-developed games on the PC are among the most compatible on the PC. I have Microsoft games dating back from the 90's and they still install natively and work without 3rd-party apps or even patches.

Microsoft games like Close Combat: A Bridge Too Far (1997) work with Windows all the way to Windows 8.1. I'm sure they will work with Windows 10.

I have games that does not work on my windows 10, while it works smoothly in my friends windows 10.

Any suggestions?

Most of the games does not even start even after changing the compatibility mode and running it as an Administrator. They just give error message that the program has stopped working.

Can anyone suggest the best version of windows 10 for Gaming.

My suggestion is make a new thread in the correct forum, and don't bump threads in the wrong forum that are more than 2 years old.
