Pretty sure Cali is trying to get people to move out at this point.

Please do. California is ruined mostly because of the outsiders that come in from other states and act like they own the place.

Yeah, sure, it's the outsiders that elected the trash pushing one silly environmental regulation after the next. Remember, California's problems aren't the laws. It's not even the people who write the laws. It's the idiots who elect the people who write the laws.

Right we shouldn't have any regulations. Dirty water, air and food sources should be the norm.

California has the highest population of any state. Regulations are an absolute must have whether you agree or not.

And California has the highest population, not like it has anything to do with the state being infested with outsiders who tried to "make it big".

Global warming leading to severe droughts caused by fossil fuels. Did you think the forest burn because of something Cali does? And do you understand that most of the forest that burned were federally owned which means the federal government is responsible for them?

Taxes plain and simple. Shocker that large corporations don't want to pay taxes huh

Yeah, I debunked that a while ago. California's severe droughts are largely caused by failures in leadership trying to pass the buck. Billions (perhaps trillions) of gallons of water are being dumped into the San Fransisco bay as we speak in a response to environment regulations to protect the delta smelt, which is functionally extinct in the wild at this point. That water to fuel that area that is having the drought wasn't even viable farm land before irrigating the inner valley's two main river systems. So no, their drought isn't some big mean ol' boogieman living in the sky but rather a much, much simpler reality.

Your opinion and nothing more

Don't pass your opinion off as fact. 98% of the worlds scientist agree Global warming is mostly man made which includes causing the drought California has been facing. I'll believe them long before I believe some random on a gaming forum.

Funny, recorded data shows California was fine in 2018, 2019, 2020, and that these dry seasons are periodic, California has often had them in the past (trying to build a farm in the middle of a desert and what not), and yet have done nothing to plan for it. Their problems in coping with it also seem to begin immediately after the delta smelt regulations forcing the dumping of billions of gallons of water into the Pacific Ocean that would have went to irrigate central valley farms.

Since conditions haven't changed beyond what has been normal for the state, but these problems have occurred after the delta smelt regulations and in lieu of the state funding desalination, choosing instead to spend it on stupid shit, like trains, California wouldn't be having the issues it's having now. And yeah, all that falls under the category of bad leadership.

Funny cause California was in a drought from 2011 which finally ending in 2019. Now we're in another drought.

Funny how these 2 articles explain the drought in the west. Don't see anything about the none sense you're spewing.

Yet, they only seem to struggle with that reality since the delta smelt rulings and their failure to build the desalination plants they were supposed to. Imagine a group of people trying to turn a DESERT into farm land, begins dumping the water they used to irrigate that land into the ocean, makes ZERO effort to develop a sustainable source to replace it, land dries out, and OMFG it must be a magical invisible sky deity called climate change!, never the fault of the self serving corruption in charge. How convenient.

And now they've turned to blaming gaming PCs. LMFAO.

People say Texas is bad, but Cali is right up there as a liberal shithole. Neither government knows what they're doing. I still put Cali behind Texas...the morons running Texas are without equal the dumbest and nobody is taking that crown, but Cali is honestly not that far behind.

They're crossing a mother effing line by going after video games.

Blown out of proportion. They're only banning these wasteful power supplies because Dell and so on are using super inefficient power supplies.

Everything is fine.

It is pretty silly though to go after this specific demographic though I mean how many gaming PC's do they really sell?

They're federal forests, I think that is often overlooked. A lot of the land burning in these multiple state-wide fires are federally-owned forests, not state. Some is state, though.

Mudslides? What mud? We in a drought.

As for the tech companies, probably because Texas is a capitalist dystopia and California actually wants to tax corporations responsibly. You know, so we can have better schools, fix our roads and bridges....PUT OUT OUR FIRES AND FIX OUR SHIT.

You guys make it sound like asking corporations that have sucked the resources out of a state for decades and paid literal pennies for them to start paying reasonable taxes is a bad thing, and them saying "**** you, we are leaving" is some sort of heroic, understandable act.

But no, no....**** California. Defend corporations. That makes sense. :P

Do you think it ends there? Once they realize such a thing as low power CPUs exist (such as for mobile applications) how long do you think it'd be before more limits are set? Gun owners in California know what I am talking about. At first, it was a few items they wanted to restrict. Now there's a list of what you are allowed to buy and it seems to get smaller every year.

Sorry, I don't cave to fear-mongering and slippery-slope fallacies.

As you said earlier, it's up to voters ultimately.

I think those tech companies are going to regret it if the power keeps going out.

But lets be real, we're looking at two states that are good examples of why leaning too hard in either political direction can be bad.

The nice thing is that all the hardware tweaks PC makers make to meet California's limits will then become the standard for the rest of the nation and likely the world. It sometimes pays to be the 5th largest economy in the world.

People hate what they can't have I guess.

I'm pretty mercurial in my opinion on California. It's my home state and I love it but as a blue collar worker I am all too familiar with the unpleasant realities of it. I'm thankful I have no kids and no debt, that's for sure.

Maybe federally.

State and local I think we have more choice, can have more of an impact.

Of course with California we are so huge, our economy so large, our demographics so diverse we are almost like a country ourselves so then again maybe more difficult then say a place like Vermont or Maine.

It's not a slippery slope fallacy when it's a clear and well documented behavior exhibited by those involved. It's a hypothesis based on evidence. After all, California has done exactly what I said in relation to guns and cars, what makes you think they wouldn't extend those same practices to devices of high energy consumption as well? Early on when they started with gun and automotive legislation, I am sure there were people like you screaming "slippery slope fallacy" as well. And yet, here we are.

@mrbojangles25: The problem is our political system as we know it. California will always vote blue like Alabama will always vote red. Politicians always promise the moon and stars and never deliver on anything.

As voters we are all caught up (by design) in petty issues like sexual orientation and other issues that keep us from real progression, like poverty issues, infrastructure etc.

As somebody who is older, I've seen a ton of this shit and it's always the same. Only thing different is the massive amounts of gridlock we usually have in government. Democrats acting like republicans (not caring about the poor anymore) and republicans acting like democrats (big gov spending).

That shit we saw on January 6th was just a preview of how a lot of Americans feel about our government and so-called leaders, and the waters are boiling over now more than ever before. Seems like chaos is within reach sometimes.

@vl4d_l3nin: People love to hate on California the same way they love to hate on Florida; truth is, most people that carry that never even stepped foot in these states, or they think spending a weekend in them makes them a pro, or they really do love sitting on their own armchairs because they read lots of articles to justify their views rather than true personal experience.

@shadyacshuns: This is why we need more than two parties imo. I mean I know technically we have two parties but we need to seriously consider a more-than-two-party system. Every time someone defends it I just kind of have to laugh and roll my eyes a bit.

I mean I guess it works and has worked but I think we've reached the point of capitalist excess and political stagnation; no one that isn't obscenely wealthy outside of politics can really get anything done, and no one in politics can get anything done at all it seems.

Maybe it'd be better to just call it a corporate oligarchy I guess?

@jaydan: seems to me you are doing the same for outsiders. My family is from California, and I've lived in NM, MA, VT, and GA - he's absolutely right, every state says the same thing you are. "Those darn outsiders come in and think they own the place, and our problems would be less without them". Sure. In NM it was the "californicators" ruining the housing. In VT it was the "massholes and flatlanders", in MA it was the New Yorkers. In GA it's the Floridians.

Whatever. We all suck, and pin our problems on others if we can.

@xantufrog: Yep, pretty much. California just happens to be the ass end of the joke usually by people that have no business talking down on California. Doesn't make anyone else's state any less shitty when you carry that kind of envy.

@jaydan: some targets are just bigger than others, obviously. Have to say, for example, I haven't seen anyone blaming their state's problems on tiny little VT yet (maybe NH, but I doubt it - MA is probably their bugaboo too)

@xantufrog: People just don't realize how much envy they have for California.

Case and point: look how this thread singles out California, even though it's not just CA getting this regulation.

Why hasn't this thread been locked for misinformation yet?

It's not all high end gaming PCs--it's literally just products that have horrible efficiency ratings, like Dell power supplies in prebuilts.
