There are two major updates that PS4 owners, such as myself, are looking forward to:

1. The ability to copy and play media (e.g. music, videos, pictures, etc) from an external storage device, as well as play copied media from the PS4 itself.

2. The removal of HDCP (i.e. High Definition Copy Protection), which will enable the recording of video and audio output from the PS4. I want to be able to record gameplay footage for my YouTube channel and can't do so. I bought a Hauppauge HD PVR Rocket, a portable video capture device, and can't use it with my PS4 (though I can still use it with my PC, so it isn't a waste of money).

When will SONY release these updates?

Hopefully soon, I really want to be able to watch video from my external. Don't mind switching to my PS3 in to be able to do that but there will come a point where I'd rather not have to switch. I'd also love the ability to customize and change the background, It's a smaller thing and I'm sure it'll come in time but I hate that blue background and not being able to move your apps where you want them.

The next update will allow you to turn off HDCP (confirmed by Sony).

I have the full version of FRAPS, but it causes performance deficits (i.e. frame rate drops) when using it, which is evident in some of my videos. I didn't like this so I decided to use the PVR.

Are you under the impression they're not coming at all or are you just waiting for the date? Because some of them you mentioned are coming in the next firmware update. Along with quite a lot of other stuff.

see shew's link. Lot's of unnannounced stuff too, so who knows what else. Seems as if PS4 is going big with its updates so you get lots in one fell swoop.

My friend, anyone that is everyone is watching Kill La Kill.

Now, bear with me, the irregular verb, not the animal, Kill La Kill is the GOAT. Which means Greatest Ovaries And Titties!!!

Seriously though, stay with me. I WANT TO LOOK AT YOUR BLUE FACE. How's the youtube channel going? I tried handling one myself, but got locked down fast, because I was promoting triple penetration female accessibilty. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then that's a-okay.

I don't know whether you're a genuine eccentric or a troll, but whatever. As for the YouTube channel, it's going alright; I've gained about forty subscribers in the past week alone and am now at sixty eight. Hopefully, I can keep this rate of growth going.

1. I needed an external capture device for my PC anyway, because using software results in drops in frame-rate since the CPU has to run the game and process the recording.

2. The quality of the PS4's built in capture feature sucks, as it's highly and poorly compressed.

Here's the first video I recorded with the HD DVR. No frame-rate drops, baby!

I really want more customisation options in general. Let me do what I want with the light, turn it off, change the colour, brightness etc, let me pick a background for the home screen and let me choose what I display on it. I don't need the fucking Playroom app there because it's of no use to me.

HDCP is sort of a non issue. Just get a splitter if you can't wait.

But yeah, consoles are quite weak media centers as is.

Edit:

Also, if you're that much into making videos, get a capture card. It's really the superior option.

I saw a vid from Linus on youtube, if you use a ssd when using fraps to record, you don't take that much of a hit. Fraps really hammers hdds though and thats what is probably causing the loss of framerate when using it.

These would also be cool:

The ability to fully install retail games, in order to play them without the disc.

An youtube app.

The ability to upload vids directly to youtube.

A demo section (some games have demo, but we don't know which ones).

FRAPS is just a dog to record with anyway. Even on my setup with my i7, 780Ti and my SSD it drops my frames by like 10. That of course is if I want to record full 1080p and record at 60fps, would be better if I could play at 60 with it and record at 30 instead of locking your framerates

If you want to record with fraps with minimal frame drops, make sure you dont have the OS, or game installed in the hard drive where you are saving your video capture footage. Also in fraps in you set it to 60 FPS, it will cap your frame rate to that, and there is a chance of it dropping. So set it to 65 or 70 FPS.

You can! Just set FRAPS to record at 30FPS without locking your FPS. However, the downside is that if FRAPS detects a FPS drop big enough it will lock the frames at 30 anyway for a time until the situation has improved.

"It only does everything"

-Except play CDs
-Except recognize flash drives
-Except having the most basic features any modern console should have.

That annoys me to no end.

@BluRayHiDef: Neither of those are long awaited updates.

What about the suspend and resume they showed off?

What about the ability to remote play my friends game to pass a tough spot for him.

Those are the big awaited features.

Personally I want:

1. The ability to enable notifications for when people come on line. (XB1 too!)

2. Turn off the light bar, I like it but the battery life is just atrocious. ( announced!)

3. Themes and wallpapers. (XB1 too!)

Personally, the above 3 were all available last gen (except light bar obviously) so I felt they should have been in the new consoles from day one but oh well

There are two major updates that PS4 owners, such as myself, are looking forward to:

1. The ability to copy and play media (e.g. music, videos, pictures, etc) from an external storage device, as well as play copied media from the PS4 itself.

Does the Xbox one have this ability? Because the 360 didn't. Which was idiotic in today's digital age.
