Video of the Dutch show Kassa doing shows about the disc scratching.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlQYkaXv8RU

They did another episode, FULL episode doing tests in their own lab settings, 8 inch concrete foundation floors, made sure all tables/360's were level, and they did 5 hour game tests to see if they (the games) would get scratched, it was like 8 out of 10 were scratched after 5 hours. I need to find this video, if someone else finds it, post it.

The 360 only scratches disks when you move your console with a disk spinning, hardly a 360 hardware fail, more that people with 360's are idiots.bobbetybob

Wrong.

My 360 scratched two discs while sitting firmly in my entertainment center.

Microsoft took it in for repairs and replaced the disc drive.

Now, why would they replace the drive if it was my fault the discs got scratched? They even replaced one of the games.

You mean a scratch around the disk?

Like this? It sure as hell does, my cat knocked over my xbox before and the disk came out looking like that. I can read just fine, so unless you mean something else please enlighten me.

spinecaton

That isn't what it looked like in my case. The scratches ARE circular, but they aren't messy like that. They're very precise.

That sucks…. I would be so pissed if my 60$ game got scratched..

With that said….. I have 2 boys(6 and 2) 2 dogs and wife that would use my games as a costar if she had the chance..76 games later…….Launch 360…. and none have been damaged.

I have no idea what people do to their gear for all this stuff to happen…

zero_snake99

They do nothing. My friend had a launch 360, he was lucky enough to never get an RROD, but it eventually (after 3 years) ate his Mass Effect. Big ole scratch ring on it.

Yet just like the RROD…It's presented like if you bought a 360 you will 100% experience RROD and scratched disks…

the xbox games must get played more

larryb007

You didn't notice that most of the discs were etched badly all around the outsides in a perfect circle? That shouldn't happen no matter how much a game gets played. The 360 systems are doing that to the discs. PS3 uses Bluray that is scratch proof and the PS3s don't scratch discs.

I know what caused this. Cows from SWs have been renting 360 games from that guys blockbuster and have mastered the art of making perfect circles and have been using box cutters to carve into to discs! Surely this could not be done by such a reliable console like the Xbox 360!

Um, I've never had that problem, and I've owned a 360 for over two years, nor have I had that problem with DVDs unless I leave them out. It's just clueless idiots renting games that scratch them up and don't care.

I am going to agree with this.

I have had four games scratched by my 360 - Guitar Hero III (brand new too, pissed me off beyond belief), Call of Duty 2, Fallout 3, and Midnight Club.

I have tested my PS3 and stepped on the disc and it still works great.

lol Because people that rent games sit there and carve circles into their discs. Besides, you're completely missing the point.... the PS3 doesn't have this problem. It never has and it never will. I've seen where they grinded steel wool all over a PS3 game and it still worked fine. That's impossible with the garbage 360 DVDs. The whole point of the video was that Blu-Ray standard is another advantage the PS3 has over the 360, not just because of storage(which he already stated in another video)... but because you don't have to worry about your games getting scratched up like 360 owners do.

Yeah.

Some people not experiencing the RROD also means that the RROD problem doesn't exist, right?

I'm sure it's just clueless idiots putting their 360 in an oven during operation that's causing it. It couldn't possibly be the result of a major hardware issue.

I'm telling you, car wax, will buff out any defective disc.

I knocked my box over once, and gave halo a huge circular scratch, Took a nice microfiber rag, some turtle wax, buffed it, let it sit, buffed it real good again,

And while you could still see the scratch, the game played like new, where as itwouldn't play before.

Blu-ray is an advantage, kinda. The circles could have been made by people moving their units while playing the game or playing with broken 360s, I honestly don't know. Nearly all my friends have 360s though, and none of us have had that problem. That guy is the biggest PS3 fanboy at there (I swear to God he nearly pisses his pants in rage at 360 players when he rants), God knows what he did to those discs. They're rentals, I've always had problems with discs not working since Gamecube, PS2, and Xbox times. You can't blame MS for not having embraced Blu-ray at launch, it was a new format that was likely not going to make it. In fact, it really screwed Sony over at the PS3's launch.

My 360 ruined two of my games before and I never once moved my console. My Fallout 3 disc had a circular ring just like the ones in the video. I remember playing it and my 360 started making strange noises and then the game froze and I was never able to play it again. A similar thing happened to my Saints Row disc too but instead of a ring it got a small crack near the hole of the disc. So I'm 100% sure this isn't always a user problem.

dr_mindbender12

Yeah I put my World at War in after just purchasing the (at the time) new Nazi Zombie map pack and it came out with a huge crack in the middle hole. I've also had Battle for Middle Earth 2 come out with a ring around the edge, and I never moved my console. So this kind of stuff does happen, but it's true that people don't treat rentals with the care of something they own.

Overheating power bricks, disc scratching, RRoD. The 360 is a bloody nightmare in terms of hardware and design.

and it's only his word that those games where returned in a week, did he prove that they where all returned in 1 week? did he show official paperwork to that respect? i believe the answer to both counts is NO, i don't trust anything that isn't definitive proof and that was far from definitive, for all i know those games are the ones that have been returned since the 360 was launched, and anyone that has a circular scratch like that has obviosly moved there Xbox 360, or put it where it vibrates too much, there where extensive tests done that prove this, i can tell you out of myself and all the people i know with 360's i have only seen that kind of scratch once, and that's because the 360 was knocked over whilst the disk was spinning, also with the ability to install the game to the HDD, it's now a moot point, i have been through 4 360's since january 2007, and not one of them has ever even slightly scratched one of my disks.

some people have no other choice but to keep their consoles upright (i.e. space) therefore, you can't blame them for that

Well, both instances of my console scratching discs were with the console sitting flat. I don't think that's the issue.

It must've been a bad batch of DVD drives, because Microsoft told me to send it in for repairs -- they replaced the drive.

thats a load of crap, my first xbox went back within a month because it scratched disc's as they spun in the console and it was constantly on a flat surface.

EDIT: Despite his clear hate to anything 360, I do respect him because he gives a lot of the lesser known Wii exclusives a chance and enjoys them, unlike most fanboys here.

I've never had those kind of scratches regarding my 360 DVDs. Even if I did it still wouldn't be a problem. I have quite a few very old DVDs that are heavily scratched , and they still work fine.

if ppl move theconsole that's what happens...idk why anybody would move a console while a game is spinning anyway....it's one of those stupid warnings that companies have to issue for idiots....ummm caution coffee is hot!

chikenfriedrice

Then why is this only a problem on the 360?

Why doesn't the cd player in my car scratch discs? Why doesn't the DVD player in my sister's SUV scratch discs? How come 20 years ago I could jog down the street with a Sony discman playing a music cd and it wouldn't scratch any discs?

Microsoft's quality standards are poor. There is no reason, under any circumstance, that a disc player should ever scratch a disc. You should be able to move a console with a disc spinning inside. Why? Because the technology to be able to do so has been around a long time, and it is standard on every other piece of equipment out there.

You see, every other disc player has little rubber shock absorbers that stabilize the disc tray. The 360 is missing those shock absorbers. I don't understand Microsoft's motivation for omitting them. They cost only a few cents to add into the player.

I expect my hardware to not scratch my discs. Is that too much to expect?
