True fact, a system with 54% failure rate would not be allowed in europe, and EU would never let such a device get trough quality testing. A Game informer poll of 5000 people isn't reliable.

And if it doesn't? You know when MS lowers it's price the PS3 will still be the most expesive console on the market. Right now consumers won't be going for the more expensive console when they have a cheaper alternative that's just as good.[QUOTE="kingtito"][QUOTE="simslifer"]

lol you gotta be kidding me right now the PS3 and X360 are almost even in worldwide sales with PS3 being $200 more expensive and you come to tell me a $100 price cut won't do anything.
what won't be effective is if X360 price cuts it won't do nothing to stop the PS3 locomotive.
Doesn't matter the 360 is sitll ahead in 8 million units. This same topic has already been posted about 10 times yesterday. Why do these threads keep growing?

And if it doesn't? You know when MS lowers it's price the PS3 will still be the most expesive console on the market. Right now consumers won't be going for the more expensive console when they have a cheaper alternative that's just as good. but MS can't lower the price. it costs 180 bucks to manufacture a 360, 25 for packaging, then 15 for shipping. total, to sell to a consumer it costs 230 bucks, plus the 20 or so dollars a retailer takes, thats 250. so all they can do is drop to 275, and nobody will chose a 25 dollar cheaper inferior console. actually, they could pull a sony and start losing money on every sale....isn't it 7 million or 6 now the PS3 is at 24 millionand if PS3 sells really well they can get the lead they won't be #1 but #2 is up for grabs.
let's do the math here: assuming the PS3 is at a 7 million unit deficit. If they sold 500,000 units per month (which is 2x what they are currently moving), it would take them 14 months to catch the 360 in sales. So it would almost be 2011 before they could catch up. and that's assuming that MS never sells another 360 from this day forward. in other words, not going to happen.[QUOTE="kingtito"][QUOTE="simslifer"]

The percentage of owners of failed 360s who've bought more than one: 36.4% This is compared to Sony's 13.4% and Nintendo's 8.4%. Makes you wonder how legit the 360's sales numbers are.
WOW 36.4%
also 41.2% suffered a second hardware failure after the original repair.

I am not desperate i'm happy PS3 is at $299 a reason to rejoyce :D
I was just quoting what I read when I got my latest issue of GI.
Why rejoice? If you already own one, isn't a price drop too late for you?Wow, it's amazing how much a survey of 5,000 people REALLY gets out on the internet. Gaming journalism really IS down. 54% out of 5,000 people may seem like a high ratio, but how much is that out of 30 owners. I know RROD may have doubled those sales, but really, the same could be said about the PS2's hardware failure(even though it wasn't as bad, but a similar scenario; I had to buy a total of 3 PS2's during that gen to play the games I loved). The only thing that was different was the vast library of games on the PS2, which Sony tried really hard to secure last gen(and they still are trying hard to a degree). Though the 360s do get fixed for free now, so no excuses in terms of sales for 360 from here on!;)NYrockinlegendFurther, such surveys in an industry rife with fanboys almost certainly sparked some... creative participants. The TC, for instance, exhibits so much glee over the issue that it wouldn't surprise me if he (or those of his ilk) filled out the survey citing 360 failures to pad the numbers.

See this is where your wrong. We are not all fanboys. I own a ps3 for chrissakes, but Im not gonna lie and say its the best system. I wouldnt even do that if all I owned was one system. I go where the best games are. I dont want the ps3 or xbox 360 to fail because that means less games for me to play. Why would u want less games for us all to play?fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. The consumer obviously didnt care.[QUOTE="xbox360isgr8t"][QUOTE="simslifer"]
or them being ripped of buying what they already had because microsoft goofed and dropped the ball.
simslifer
yea i'm sure the consumer loved having to pay another $200 or more to buy again what he already had.
It costs $99 to repair the system. :| Either way, it is still cheaper to repair or rebuy the Xbox 360 than spend $300 on a Playstation 3, and rebuy your multiplats (unless they are 360/PC only, then you are out of luck) and equivelants to Xbox 360 exclusives. Look the Playstation 3 is a great system, it honestly is, it has some great games that I would be intresting in playing but I don't think the games I would buy would be worth the entry price, especially considering I could buy $300 worth of Xbox 360 games instead of Playstation 3, which I would rather do.
it that why MS offered a 3 year warranty to help with consumers who got the RROD. as an aside, it took a class action suit against Sony before they even admitted the DRE error on the PS2. additionally, you do realize MS has been constantly revising their chipsets to try to alleviate the RROD. and really, why do you respect any of these companies. all they care about is your money, anywayYou have to admit that article on a major gaming magazine GI will do damage to the xbox 360 name.

I don't have the strength to respond to a new thread about this same topic everytime they pop up. I'll just re-use my last answer:
Look people. Even the most accurate polls, the ones that carefully span demographics, endeavor for the most complete and accurate answers to the questions they pose, that have a "scientific" basis in their development and execution, have a margin of error. And this is not a scientific poll, nor does it make any claim whatsoever to be so. It is a voluntary turn in survey from the readers of GI. They didn't poll 5000 people. They asked a few questions about console failures and customer service and almost 5000 people responded. For those of you confused, that is not how professional polling is done. So all this "that's how polling works" stuff is just silly. Actually it was silly 11 threads ago. Now, it's dumb.
Now, I think it's pretty obvious to those around here not looking for "teh pwnage" that the kind of people that are most likely to respond to a magazine poll about console failures are gonna be people that have had a console fail. Also not working towards the 360's favor is that it makes sense to assume that the kind of people that subscribe to GI are gonna skew towards early adopters of new game hardware, where the reliability of the 360 (and ps3) were the worst. And yeah, I've seen it mentioned on here and we all know people like this on SW, there are gonna be people "fudging the numbers" just for some good ole fashoined adolescent fun. I don't think it would be a ton, but I'm betting it happened.
So what did we end up with? Substantially inflated failure rates for all 3 systems! Less so for the Wii, but the PS3 has almost 4x the stated failure rate that Sony has stated and the best guestimations by industry experts that have always said a little less than 3%. So is Sony hiding a massive conspiracy? Is your PS3 about to explode? Have nearly 7%, or 3.5million, Wiis already died? Of course not.
I think it's common knowledge even here on SW that the 360 has an unacceptably high failure rate, and that Sony and Nintendo's systems are much more in line with standards in home electronics. MS has responded to the situation in a way that we don't often see from companies without the threat of government intervention/mandatory recall: They admitted the error, put the industry's best warranty (by a long shot) out retroactively and at the cost of over 1 billion initially, and have continued to work on improving the reliability with rededsigns of the hardware. The console still probably isn't the most reliable on the market, but hey! It's Microsoft! If you didn't know you were dealing with guys more comfortable designing software rather than hardware, then you weren't paying very good attention.
The one thing everyone preying on this as an opportunity to strike should note from the poll: less than 4% of those claiming a RROD said their experience with the 360's hardware failure was a reason to keep them from buying another XBox in the future. Apparently, even those who are dealing with dead 360s don't feel like the experience was overall a bad one. I know one guy that has had a dead 360, and sadly enough, I'm the schmo that sold it to him used. It took him 11 days total from the time he reported it until he got a spankin' new console delivered to him. It's not something he is asking for again, but it also wasn't the worst thing that ever happened to him dealing with videogames. I do know that if my launch 60 gb PS3 bites the dust (as has been reported more and more often of late), I'll be looking at around a $150 dollar bill, and just as long if not longer to recover. I bet wayyyyyy more PS3 owners viewed their experience negatively than the 3.8% of 360 users this survey found.
IMHO, there are far more deserving features of the 360 to heap scorn at than the failure rate issue, if bashing it is what you are looking to do, and when I see a Cow jump all over "RROD" it shows a lack of imagination, or knowledge about the current state of gaming, than anything else. And when those same fanboys start reaching for obviously absurd numbers to back this claim, it just comes off as desperate... very obviously desperate.
Cows need to focus on better targets, and Lems need to stop responding to (and thereby bumping) this crud every time it gets posted.

1. you don't respect microsoft because you know nothing about them, your a gamer, and outside of that know nothing about microsoft so don't act all high and mighty but they did this this and this. 2.The ps2 failure rate was just as high you just won't say so because guess what? its a sony system. They were sued and had to settle out of court because they would have been destroyed in court they had no way out except to settle. and guess what, EVEN AFTER they were sued and settled they said they did not recognize it as a valid problem. 3.If it was happening since day one...isn't it obvious they knew about it before launch?but wait, there's more. you have said in the past that ps3's never fail, they are below 3% failure rate. they cared more about making money than hurting their longtime fans.simslifer
1 - there are no records showing sony knew about the dre error before they shipped like m$ did.
2 - the sony ps2 failure rate can't compare to m$'s 54% failure rate.
3- the 3 year warranty don't mean nothing if they new about the RROD they should have stopped it from shipping and worked on fixing the problem then sell it.
4- I don't respect any company but what m$ did is the lowest of the low to know about rrod and not do anything about it.
What do you mean not do anything about it? They acknowledged the problem, gave people an extended three year warrenty and even refunded people who had previously paid for a console repair because of the three red lights of death before the extended warrenty. (Something Sony didn't do for the Playstation 2) :| Sony has also done some very questionable things in the past too. (Not regarding the Playstation 2 or Playstation 3 but they have done very unproffessional and even unethnical things in the past)
Man the cows are just eating this up, This is like the 5th topic I seen of this. The poll is of 5000 readers, of that 5000, X amount said they own a 360 (I didn't see GI list the number). So unless all 5000 people they polled have a 360, they didn't poll 5000 360 owners, so a very small sample size just got smaller
Another question is how many of the readers said they had a 360, but lied because they are a fanboy and want to inflate the numbers (same with the others).
It really amused me on how many people are taking this up and acting like it is fact.
[QUOTE="simslifer"][QUOTE="clone01"] it that why MS offered a 3 year warranty to help with consumers who got the RROD. as an aside, it took a class action suit against Sony before they even admitted the DRE error on the PS2. additionally, you do realize MS has been constantly revising their chipsets to try to alleviate the RROD. and really, why do you respect any of these companies. all they care about is your money, anyway

and i'm sure you have links for every accusation you've just made. btw, it still took a lawsuit for sony to fess up to their mistake. i'll ask again, do you own some sort of stock in Sony?I own stock in Sony...Lot's of it. I will soon be buying 5,000 more shares. Cheers![QUOTE="simslifer"]

What I mean is they knew about it before shipping and did not act on their knowledge, because of greed.
the 3 year warranty was already too late they did not have to go through this if they just hold back the X360 and worked on a solution instead of rushing the system to stores.

Microsoft knew it had flawed machines, but it did not delay its launch because it believed the quality problems would subside over time. With each new machine, the company figured it would ride the "learning curve," or continuously improve its production. Even though Microsoft's leaders knew their quality wasn't top notch, they did not ensure that resources were in place to handle returns and quickly debug bad consoles. There were plenty of warning signs, but the company chose to ignore them. The different parts of the business weren't aligned.
Microsoft also fired a worker for talking about it.
