[QUOTE="kolkov01"] We still have to see whether or not it will beat the DVD before Digital Distribution kicks inkolkov01

Digital distribution seems to be much more of a premium when looking the world over. Manycountries lack the infrastructure to maintain anything close to digital distribution for the streaming or downloading of movies and/or games.

Add to that the increased used of bandwidth caps, and the decreased bandwidth limits, and it may take a while to become a real alternative.

that's true, however Europe, USA and Japan are the 3 most proffitable markets and i'd say that they all posess the necessary infrastructure for digital distribuiton

Yup, Japan certainly does. They have ridiculous internet with fiber optics. The majority of the US does not though, and Europe is probably no better (though i'm not sure about Europe).

Still, i'm an advocate of DD, so I hope it's sooner rather than later :P

Japan and South Korea could easily cater to digital distribution, as could over half of the European Union. The United States has some catching up to do, hence why it's odd that OnLive is launching there. Gaikai is better off by launching in the European Union.

Yup. Doesn't Japan have all fiber optics now? Or damn close I think. Like I said couldn't speak for Europe, but America is nowhere near close enough for the vast majority ofboth continents.

Blu ray is such a huge plus!!!! And games have used it quite a bit. MGS4, FF, I'm sure Star Ocean. with all the content on the disc, GT5 is sure to use a lot of it. Tons of 360 games use multiple discs which is stupid. With PS3 you really never have to worry about that

No blu-ray = 150-200 dollars off the initial cost and a 6-8 months earlier release date

They would have beat the wii to market by half a year, and totally cut into the MS earlier release. If they'd kept BC in, this would have been Sony domination.

BluRay is the only thing saving the PS3 right now.KHAndAnime
Yep, none of its exclusives have anything to do with people buying PS3s. They buy it only for the Blu Ray...

Sorry, this isn't 2006-2007 anymore. Back then, the main reason most bought the PS3 was because of Blu Ray, but not now.

bluray is WHY I bought a PS3 in the first place. the games are sweet, but bluray was my main reason.

knowing killzone 2 was coming was a close second I guess.

No, because of the inclusion of Blu-Ray in the PS3 it won the HD-Format war.

think about it.... when the Playstation 3 was first released it cost WAY too much if the Bluray wasnt included then it would have brought down the price significantly. its 2010 and no game has even come close to harnessing the full potential of bluray discs (except maybe final fantasy, which could have been put on two discs).....

the better idea would have been to wait until next gen to include it.... do you agree SW?

jasonharris48

Guess you forgot MGS4 huh?

Naughty Dog took advantage of the Blu-ray disc too when developing Uncharted 2 and so is QD when it comes toHeavy Rain. I'm pretty sure Poly is taking advantage of the disc for GT5 (all the cars that game has)

I may be wrong, but I heard Insomniac filled up a blu ray disc with Resistance 2.

Bluray was the reason why most people bought a PS3 when it first came out. I think it was a really smart decision for Sony and set them up to win the format war.

ASRCSR
it's also why it was $600 at launch and delayed it till a year after 360. so not so great either. but they chose to win the format war over the console war.

Technically speaking, they won the format war. Winning the console war would only last for this gen, but its more likely winning the format war will benefit them far beyond this gen. Which was probably the wisest move.

"Looking back"??? It should have been very apparent at the time that it wasnt the smartest idea. It helped Sony in the long run of the things... now that the PS3 and 360 are same price, it gives the PS3 an edge in value... but when the console cost $600 and Blu Ray was still a debatable format... it wasnt a smart move.

Read that back, makes no sense. It helped Sony in the long run but wasnt a smart move when it was a debatable format? How do you come to that conclusion? Wasnt that the whole point of putting in to the PS3, to get Blu-ray into millions of homes. Id say that was a very smart move myself.
