Firstly, Zelda: TP came out for GC. Talk about overreaction... On another note, the N64 was nice - but the SNES still holds the #1 spot as greatest console of its time, IMO.

I'm just curious if there area lot of people like me who used to be hardcore Nintendo fans (the name Nintendo was synonymas with video games back in the 80's early 90's). I was wondering if you'd like to share your stories of what made you turn, or if you stayed with them for the long run.

Myself, I was all about everything Nintendo did, UNTIL, Legend of Zelda, Twilight Princess was delayed for the umteenth time on Gamecube, even then I held my allegience, until I heard they were contemplating only bringing it to the revolution. That did it for me, I sold my Gamecube, and turned my back on video games completely for a while because of that. The whole reason I wanted a Gamecube was for that game, arg.

Now I think my anger has turned down a few notches, I've had a lot of fun with my PS3 this year and was thinking the only thing that could enhance my gaming experience right now would be to get a Wii, so I could go back and play all those fun games again. I think the N64 had the best games of any system for it's time.

Anyway, anybody else?

Hey man don't worry if you didn't play TP you didn't miss out on much. It is the worst 3D Zelda game ever created by Nintendo. I couldn't believe it was a Zelda game.

ummm, no TP epic feeling was miles ahead of OOT's it really is the best zelda title.

I use to cherish the NES. But didn't care much for Nintendo after that. I did pickup a Nintendo 64 and recently a DS but it was only out of interest.

I'm glad I was never a big Nintendo fan. Sure I enjoyed their games on the N64 and the Gamecube, but in the end they kind of let down their fanbase this gen.

It started last gen by only releasing sequals and no new IPs, not to mention discontinuing many old IPs (Donkey Kong anybody?). Then they lost RE4 to the PS2 and now they aren't even getting RE5. This gen we also see a lack of care for their fanbase. Very few actual games geared towards hardcore Nintendo fans are coming out and they have completely turned their back on every other part of gaming that has become big (online mostly).

Nintendo has really gotten a big head and has gotten drunk with money. They no longer cater towards their fanbase. Instead they are moving in a direction I cannot follow.

Nintendo has released more hardcore games (Meaning you take out "casual" games like Warioware) this year than any other year before this one. If you say that you are just ignorant.

No. If SMG proves anything...Nintendo's still got it.

I judge Nintendo by the games they make.

For me, I got Lucky. After i heard about Zelda TP, i was very excited. My brother thought it'd be funny to but some magnets on either side of my gamecube. and they killed it. Then i heard it was comin for wii, so that got me excited more :) lol

i fell you on the N54 comment, i would've gotten nintendo's console this gen if it was like a 'normal' console.

i had a GCN last gen and than bought an xbox, now i only got a 360 i'm not soo optiistic with the wii.

I have a very different story actually.

I started losing faith in Nintendo during the Gamecube era, mainly because of the lack of good games for it. Here are the only games that I thought were worth anything for that system: RE, RE0, Zelda Windwaker, and Super Smash Bros. Melee. That's it, 4 games! I would have this system far more if it had much better games then it did. But I have to say my faith in Nintendo is being rekindled because of the Wii. So far in its one year run there have been more worthwhile games then the entire 6 years the Gamecube has been out.

I would also like to add that this generations flop in my opinion has been the PS3. This system is way to pricy and its library is mediocre at best. This is a huge step back from the PS2 which a truly believed was the greatest system of the previous generation and somewhere in the top 3 of all time.

So all I have to say to the overall topic of this thread is that I believe Nintendo is redeeming itself with the Wii, while the PS3 is turning a Legend into a joke.

I used to be a 100% Nintendo supporter, but that was when they made real games and not just mini games with the occasional good first party game.Solid_Link22

since nintendo's making more good hardcore first party games now than they did during the n64 or gamecube era, your statement makes no sense

Worst, Eslim? :| Well you're allowed your opinions I suppose.

Anyways, I haven't turned and don't seem to be yet. Then again, I don't make any "allegiance" with companies, I just play the games more so. Hoping for a PS3 soon, but don't expect one this holiday season...

too_much_eslim

Not only is it the worst it should not have even gotten AA. I consider MM mask to be the best in the 3D series and OoT is my all time favorite game. TP did nothing special except add a more in depth battle system which I actually liked and should be in future installments. Everything else in TP was trash.

Wow, there are so many fakeboys and undercover fanboys on this topic, it makes me utterly sick.

Frankly, this topic is by its nature, the breeding ground for this sort of thing, and I'm just waiting for PhoebusFlows to start his rhetoric about how the Wii, blah blah blah.

In the end, TP is a fantastic game, superior to its predecessors in every way imaginable. The only real criticism that I, or the gaming audience in general, should accept is that it is too much like its predecessors.

This filthy, pidgenholing group think about this game(because it is the most popular Nintendo franchise) will never stop. People use the game as a way to flame Nintendo as developers, even though they never played it.

Newsflash, the guy who gave it a "bad review" 8.8, got fired, and besides getting fired, that review is his biggest claim to fame, because it is lucicrious that a game as polished as TP actually could score in the same arena as a game from a third party developer. Your rediculious opinions and that of all your "gotta kill something every 3 seconds" 360 counterparts are a joke.

However, look at me, I myself, have fallen into the hiddenfanboy trap of defending my favorite system/game, instead of attacking theirs. I fear it might be too late to turn it around.

Lets try, shall we?

The Wii shall accumulate exclusive titles. The 360 and PS3 will lose them.

Sales = Support

The 360, PC, and PS3 are very similar. The Wii is different.

That makes the ideal gaming setup a Wii + 360/PS3/PC.

Super Mario Galaxy is the second highest rated game of all time.

Twilight Princess ia AAA on gamerankings, however, a more recent zelda, Phantom Hourglass is AAA on gamespot.

Nintendo is the best reviewed developer in the world, by a significant margin.

Miyamoto exists and still makes games.

Halo 3 is out. It got its free AAA status despite it being a rehash with bad graphics and an inferior online mode to CoD4. The 360 has blown early.

Brawl launches in February.

Mario Kart is a Q1 release for 08.

Mass Effect, Halo 3, and MGS 4 will all likely be out for PC or their respective competitors consoles by early 09.

The Wii has the most third party support, and actually outsold the 360 with Guitar Hero 3 last month, the only major competitive multiplat.

So, gentleman, ladies, Nintendo has a problem. A big one.

They can't produce enough hardware to meet demand, because they have somehow developed the two fastest selling consoles in history, at the same time.

Your "opinions" that TP wasn't as great as lolMojara's Mask, are ludicrious, probably fake, and based off of the general concensus PR release from NintendoHaters of America, not something you thought up yourself, like an unbiased true gamer would.

Disgusting.

exactly

this whole "nintendo's ditching their fanbase" theory that fanboys spew in system wars is BS

somehow the success of the wii has made people ignore facts and logic, to the point where peple don't recognize the number of quality first party titles that nintendo is releasing this year

for the record, nintendo's first party titles have outscored the ps3 first party titles by a wide margin this year.....so if nintendo's first party titles are not catering to the hardcore gamer, then sony first party titles are in an even worse state

Because I don't like a game in a franchise I absolutely adore I am a fakeboy. How about you know stop acting like everybody is supposed to feel the same way you do. I hated TP so there. You can't change my opinion about it. My reasons for disliking it has nothing to do with your Nintendo fanboy rant. True gamers are not blinded in any way possible. I love the Zelda franchise andTP hurt me because it actually sucked. Playing the game was just not fun. If you read the other posts I made in this thread you wouldn't be so quick to jump to your fanboyish ways.

I feel your pain, I wanted to get a PSP but settled for a DS because I wanted to link play with my friends and I only own 3 games, beat all of them and now cant seem to find anything interesting...the last game I played was pokemon beat it...eh it was fun but Im glad Im borrowed it instead of kept it. Nowadays I only use it for mario Kart to play with my GF.

I also noticed that the bottom screen to me is a gimic, all the games I played had little to no touch screen play. it was either for a map or to skip text

I think the N64 had the best games of any system for it's time.vegetattack15
Really? I skipped N64. I had NES, SNES, Gamecube. The only games I liked on 64, were zelda OoT, and Mario 64. Gamecube had way better games, metroid prime, GS' game of the year, RE4, also GS' game of the year, not to mention, sanity's requiem, Twiligt Princess, wind waker. and IMO the best controller of last gen.

Zelda windwaker did it for me. When they changed the art sytle to that kiddy looking cel shading I bought an xbox and never looked back. However being a harcore Zelda fan. I played and enjoyed the game, but Nintendo was dead to me. I never saw them as a Kiddy company until they did thaat to Zelda.too_much_eslim

Zelda Wind Waker isn't any different than previous installments. I don't see any more kiddish than it was previously.

Anyway, anybody else?

too_much_eslim

Hey man don't worry if you didn't play TP you didn't miss out on much. It is the worst 3D Zelda game ever created by Nintendo. I couldn't believe it was a Zelda game.

If you only know how it feels for a gamer to play Zelda: TP as his first zelda game. TP is the only console Zelda game i've finished and it is my greatest game of all time. TP for gamers who just played TP as their first Zelda game is like OoT for long time Zelda fans.

Zelda windwaker did it for me. When they changed the art sytle to that kiddy looking cel shading I bought an xbox and never looked back. However being a harcore Zelda fan. I played and enjoyed the game, but Nintendo was dead to me. I never saw them as a Kiddy company until they did thaat to Zelda.too_much_eslim

really? I actually prefer the Wind waker art s1yle a lot more than the twilight princess one...

I do not understand your statement

Im saying the same thing you said(worded incorrectly), just substituing your fav. for TP.

You have to understand I was waiting a long time for this game. Then nintendo decide to delay just so they have a killer app for the wii. Then finally getting to play the game and being so disappointed with it I could only hate it. TP does have some good aspects to it, but it felt very shallow overall.

Zelda Wind Waker isn't any different than previous installments. I don't see any more kiddish than it was previously.

No it was just the artstyle that put me off. It was because Nintendo showed that awesome video of Nintendo at Nintendo world 2000 and then went to that artsyle. i was extremely hyped for Zelda until they did that. As I said anyway I played it and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a really fun game. I am glad I played it, btu I was still bitter at the art style change.

Anyways, I haven't turned and don't seem to be yet. Then again, I don't make any "allegiance" with companies, I just play the games more so. Hoping for a PS3 soon, but don't expect one this holiday season...

Not only is it the worst it should not have even gotten AA. I consider MM mask to be the best in the 3D series and OoT is my all time favorite game. TP did nothing special except add a more in depth battle system which I actually liked and should be in future installments. Everything else in TP was trash.

......

Disgusting.

No you didn't, and if you did, your not only the worst reviewer of all time, your possibly the first person to flame Twilight Princess that actually completed the game.

That said, saying Twilight Princess is a bad game, is the real world equivelant of saying Big Mama's House 2 is the best movie of all time, and Pulp Fiction sucked.

I can't disprove your opinion, but me, every paid reviewer, every person who has ever completed any game, period, and every lemming, cow, sheep, and hermit know, even if in secret, that it is laughably wrong.

WHAT!@? I mean, it didn't quited leave you with that... "Epic" feeling like Ocarina of Time did and the controls definitely could've been better, but none the less it was an incredible experience. Sure it got a little derivitive but the boss battles and interesting story just kept you so engaged.

TP lacked a lot of things OoT had which is my favorite game of all time. Game was super easy. I was bored throughtthe game. I only finished it just to finish it. The lack of a musical instrument also pissed me off. Also while there were townspeople compare to OoT, WW, and MM the townspeople felt lifeless to me. Things became way to repetitive and graphically it was just a mess for a gamecube game. I liked the artstyle, but it just looked washed out and bland to me. You compare this Zelda to the past 3D zeldas and you wonder if this is even a Zelda game. The things that made the past zeldas game good was taken out in this game.

I agree. No town had that little happy feeling that Kakariko Village gave off. Some of the characters were happy with the sad/mellow peaceful music in the background -- it had an odd sort of feeling and atmosphere.

I didn't feel any of that in Twilight Princess. In fact, it's the only Zelda game where I never felt too compelled to do a majority of the side "quests". I couldn't even find the damned fishing hole.

I agree. The Legend of Zelda: Twlight Princess was a great game, and well worth the $50 spent and the time invested to play it. It just wasn't nearly as good as other iterations such as Majora's Mask or Ocarina of Time. It lacked in so many areas, that it didn't even manage to capture the nastalgic feel of Ocarina of Time despite being so similar.

It was still a great game; it's a solid AA title. It's just not AAA-AAAA quality like the rest of the series, that's all.

Huge Nintendo fan up until the Wii. In fact, i started gaming with the Atari 2600 and then went directly to the NES from there so the NES was a huge part of gaming to me although not quite as large as the Atari 2600.

Since the Wii though i kind of feel as they are going down a road i don't want to follow. I had the Gamecube and i liked the Gamecube in everyway (as i did every Nintendo console before the GC). Sure, it didn't sell as much as some hoped but it still had alot of quality titles. With the Wii though it seems as if the sole reason for even making a game on the console is to use the Wiimote. That in itself makes it feel very gimmicky to me. On top of that, the Wiimote itself (since it requires that any game use some type of motion sensing in the game to be even made on the Wii) alienates alot of genres in videogames. I have no opposition to motion sensing...i just have an opposition to how Nintendo is using it. Couple with this that it's very easy to make a terrible game due to the Wiimote and it's manditory motion sensing and it's not what i like to see. I prefer Sony's route where they make their base controller and then integrate it and devs can use it or not use it. I prefer this so as not to alienate alot of genres in gaming. Plus, i like alot of variety in my console and the Wii doesn't carry that variety, like it or not. I mean, can you really see a solely FPS fan/Racing Fan/RPG fan/Action fan/Adventure game fan/platformer fan/etc. going to the Wii as a base Console? No, it just typically won't happen because of the Wii's style of play and its selection of titles being very sparse in most genres. Only genre it has locked down is party titles. This is also the best reason why it makes a great 2nd console (kind of like the GC did) along with the price being a huge factor. I have yet to find a reason to owna Wii although i always end up owning all the consoles at some point (I own all the past consoles back to the Atari 2600) so i'll pick one up eventually. Probably a year or so after SSBB gets released (SMG isn't enough for me to buy the console on it's own). Seeing as i'm always busy with PS3/360 titles when i am playing videogames this is fine for me.

They haven't technically lost me because i will get one eventually but i will say that i definitely do not like the way they went with their hardware and general approach to third parties and their games (or lack thereof and in terms of quality). In all honesty, i'd like the option to use the Wavebird controller in any of the Wii games because, frankly, the Wiimotesucksin alot of the Wii titles. I will say that until grandmothers, mothers, and children all just dissapear off the face of the earth, Wii's will sell. I don't see anything dominating it in sales due to it's insanely casual appeal. That being said, i can't play sales. So it's a moot point.

LoL, Puck's always been anti-Wii and I never knew why until now. This is like The Biography of a Wii Hater.

Don't let anyone fool you Puck, if you like Nintendo games, you'll like the Wii, period. The control is love it or hate it, but the games are here and they are great. Make sure to pick one up eventually or you'll regret never playing them, I guarntee it. Eventual price drops and a new SKU will suck you in though, lol, don't feel bad, everyone will own one by then.

True. That can be said forall Consoles though. I mean, can you honestly say you wouldn't pick up a PS3 at $200-250? Or how about a 360 at say $200-250? No doubt i'll get one eventually, i always do with every generation in terms of what i own; i own them all. :)

To correct you, i don't hate the Wii. I just need MORE Nintendo games worth playing. SMG isn't enough. I did beat Zelda on a buddies Wii btw, great game. Zelda A Link to the Past is still my favorite though. But, yea, hence SMG being the only thing worth it to me at this point.

Maybe it's the "Biography of a Wii Hater" according to you but all of those are legitimate arguments. I mean, i buy a Nintendo console for Nintendo titles. That's just me though. ;)

Wow, you put into words how I exactly feel about the Wii. I wouldn't change a bit of that, agree 100%.
