Lost Odyssey: Get it or not?

I think its funny how this game has such an overwhelming positve response from people who played it and yet Gamespot thinks its crap. What are there reviews really worth. They are obviously bogged down with politics and out of touch with gamers.L1qu1dSword

I was not inclined to take them seriously only because they were( and still are) desperately waiting for a AAA game to brag about. The situation is different for Lemmings simply because they allready have the AAA titles.

Im not saying GS has a systematic problem because a lot of the times they totally nail it with the review. Lost Odyssey's review was a total flub though.

You haven't played it, this thread is asking people who HAVE played it to give an opinion on the game, everyone knows LO was underrated, if you haven't played it you shouldn't put your opinion in.

Think what you want. Last gen I owned all three systems.

PS2 had the most games

xbox had the best graphics and cool pc ports

gc had great 1st party games

I just don't see any reason to own PS3 this time. I might get a Wii if I can ever find one in the store. For the most part 360 has kept me happy for years. Its funny because by the time this gen really kicks off for sony it will be more then half over. I might get a PS3 eventually but it really needs better games. Not just overhyped sequels from gens of yesteryear like Metal Gear.

It's a really underrated game, IMO. Why are all these great games being so underrated? Lost Odyssey, Assassin's Creed, Devil May Cry 4....

Anyway, as others have said, if you like JRPGs then get it. That sounds simplistic, but that's basically what it boils down to. If you hate JRPGs, this game won't convert you, but if you're a fan you should love it.

What so Lair was not terrible? I played it and it truly was. Uncharted was pretty good but its over in like eight hours. Compare it to Gears which came out a year before with two player Co-op( which was a HUGE gameplay draw) and online multiplayer. Plus it had cooler characters and the story was more intense and engaging. Given the fact that Gears was out a year before Uncharted I think that does land it right around an eight. Resistance was boring and the graphics were blah... When I first saw it I thought OK so they made ANOTHER WW2 shooter but this time it has aliens thrown in to make it "unique". The online multiplayer is allready nearly dead....compare that to the fact that millions are playing halo 3 and even still playing 2! Heavenly Sword is allright but just like Uncharted you beat it in eight hours and then your done. PS3 is the system to rent for. Ratchet and Clank was never really that great. Platforming is a tough genre to get into because you have to contend with the kings of that genre, Nintendo.

I think the PS3 reviews have mostly been fair but then again my opinion is that they took the focus off gaming this gen to push their proprietary dvd format blu ray and that is the main reason they have had lackluster games. This may change in the future but how much longer must you guys wait?!? This gen started in 2005 and you guys are still so bafflingly optimistic about the future.

So people think there ARE games on PS3 games that deserve AAA. I don't know any. Lets have examples with reasons.

I am not much of a JRPG fan, as I much prefer WRPGs. Nevertheless, I bought this game and am halfway through.

It is an excellent game overall. The 1,000 years of dreams is great, no awesome....no...better than anything ever done in a video game before, in terms of back plot and emotionally connecting you.

The characters are truly great. Very finely voice acted. The plot is pretty standard...good to very good, not earthshattering.

Combat is pretty traditional turn based. The ring system adds a moderate innovation. There is a decent mix of weapons and magic. Combat is pretty solid but not fantastic.

The RPG leveling, skills, equipment etc are solid. Interesting linking the skills of the mortals to the immortals. Fairly good in this area.

Music is really, really good IMO. Helps create the atmosphere/emotion.

Criticisms on load times, cutscenes etc are valid. It doesn't ruin the game...but they are a bit long and there is a little too much in terms of number and length of cutscenes.

Visually is pretty good for this type of game. Not awesome. Good. Character models are generally the best part. Some weak animations.

It is an 8.0 to 8.5 IMO. A very good game and if you are driven by characters and story then this is a great game to play. If you are an RPG fan this is a solid buy. If you are a JRPG fan this is a must buy. If you don't really know (because you haven't played a lot of JRPG) then you should try it. It is definately different enough and good enough to be worth it.

Reviewers seem to bash it, but everyone I talk to who's actually played it says its amazing and a really great story. RPGs are all about the story so i'm not sure where the hate is coming from. Reviewers are goofballs sometimes. I guess the combat isn't 100% brand new, but hell basically all fighting games boil down to punching and kicking yet they're still fun. Tekken is fun and still basically the same since it came out in the 90s, dead or alive still rocks, the Naruto games on GC/Wii are kick ass to me and they are only like part 6 now, Marvel vs Capcom 2 still rocks even though its the same as X-Men vs Street Fighter and i'd buy any new entry to that series day one. I'll be buying this this weekend.

You can innovate and be crap just like you can not innovate and still be good.

But Gamespot listed it as Good, I enjoyed many 7 and below games. People should read the review, not the score.

Reviwers just want to seem smart and "modern", thus bash anything that reminds old games, and of course they hold it against 360 that got a JRPG in the first place

The "Review" copies that were distributed to review sites had issues in them, the retail version had these issues fixed, which is why GS added the note to the bottom of the review.
