Well...you know what they say 'OPINIONS FTW'Not to me, I honestly wouldn't give it 7.5. It took a bit into the third disc for it to get interesting. That is not acceptable

disagree, i honestly thought the first disc is where the game was at its most awesome, especially with....well when Kaim sees you know who :( but the rest of the discs never were able to live up to the that kind of moment, the action/boss fights got more serious sure. It had some pacing issues i guess, but it was pretty good for the most part. I don't know about underrated. Not to me, I honestly wouldn't give it 7.5. I have been trying to play this game for close to a year now and I cant get into it.. i usually only play 20min or so before i turn it off for another couple weeks. It has alot of elements i like from older FF's but the reading the dream sequences is very anoying and the game doesnt seem to "flow" for me..
Overall i think this game is about a 5 out of 10
I love Lost Odyssey, great JRPG. One of the best this gen alongside Tales of Vesperia and The World Ends With You.
The story is unispired and derravative, the combat is bland, and there's nothing particurly unique about this game as it's average at best. I think they were a little too generous towards this game imho. If you find it great then good for you..... no I don't mean in a negative snarky way.
Persona 3 and 4 are far FAR superior JRPGs.
Am I the only person to find it be overrated? Sure it was a decent game the soundtrack was amazing and it had a great cast of characters for the most part. But the battle system felt dated. Now there isn't anything wrong with having a turn based battle system but LO's was dull and boring. As for the story it falls falt on its face after disc 1. Now lets talk about Gongora was of the lamest villains in video game history. Decent game but not as great as other JRPG fans (except myself believe).

Agreed. The combat system was horrible, but I believe the story was okay.[QUOTE="goofd84"]Agreed. I think the story is decent, better than most JRPGs, even though thats not saying much since JRPG story is going down hill.
Amazing characters, story, music, environments. Fun battle system with the rings. Etc.
AAA for me. And I play basically every JRPG released.
Slow pacing even at the best of times, cliched story (typical of JRPGs, and all video games for that matter, but still), loading times for battle upon battle cumulatively eat up hours of your life that you'll never get back (same as Blue Dragon, they really have to come up with a way with modern-gen JRPGs for each battle to not require a 30 second load up scene, it really adds up after dozens or even hundreds of battles).
IMO, the inventory and equipment system is the biggest offender, and completely broken: "Let's give them custom equipment and rings for specific enemy types, but not let them change it mid-battle so they have to guess pre-battle what type of enemies they're about to face every few minutes and spend endless hours rejigging their stuff in the OFF chance that they guess right." C'mon now, that's just idiotic. I'm on the third disc, when Kaim and Sarah are chasing the kids on the train, and a bunch of mech. enemies try to stop us. There are several rings that are powered for mech. enemies, but sadly you can't equip ANY of them at the point you realize you need them, so the only chance you have was if you were wearing the right equipment to begin with... fat chance considering the last enemies we'd faced had not been robots.
None of this is to say that the game sucks, but all things considered I can't imagine this game being scored any higher than MAYBE an 8.0... so 7.5 is not far off the outlying mark and seems pretty fair to me, even generous.
Cookigaki disagree, the story was just cliche, cookigaki is fine with cliche story if done right. CookigakiWell Cookigaki obviously never played the game, as the story is grand, heart stirring, and original.
I loved this game, its a great game IMO and I dont care what the review score is it a 8.5 or 9 to me.
I'd just like to point out that you CAN change your ring mid-battle. Whenever you're at the selection screen just hit your joystick to the left and it will bring up the option to either Flee, change your formation, or select a different ring which will happen instantly and allow you to still make an attack that round. I'm shocked that you tried to play the game without changing rings mid battle for different monsters.Slow pacing even at the best of times, cliched story (typical of JRPGs, and all video games for that matter, but still), loading times for battle upon battle cumulatively eat up hours of your life that you'll never get back (same as Blue Dragon, they really have to come up with a way with modern-gen JRPGs for each battle to not require a 30 second load up scene, it really adds up after dozens or even hundreds of battles).

Lost Odyssey sucked IMO. The stats system is way too cumbersome, the inventory requires alot of micro-management, skill selections are too confusing etc. The storyline and characters are good, but combat/statistics system was a pile of rubbish.PandaBear86:? The game required no kind of micro-management? To TC...eh, kinda. It sold close to 1 million copies so it got the attention it deserved, but I do believe 7.5 is way too low. Loved the game myself. On of my most favorite RPG's of all time
It is the best console JRPG this gen. But the 7.4 was right on spot. Don't forget not all games get a low score based on just the story. There were gameplay problems here and there though out the game.HarlockJCThere are gameplay problems in most major releases nowadays, but they still are able to get atleast an AA rating from most review sites.

Haha, I actually got a backup copy of this game recently. Check out how cheap it is at Sears:

They had a bunch of PSP, 360, PS3, and Wii titles for $5-$10! :o

Nice find. I allways like seeing a good bargain, infact I'm a little obssesed. I havn't seen it that cheap in the UK, but I did see Mass Effect for a fiver in comet not long after it was released. Shame I had already paid the full price for it a month or two earlier .
I enjoyed LO alot, though it never really felt asif it shouldhavebeen particularly fantastic at any point. The game had alot of flaws, and lacked alot of originality. Regardless I still managed to enjoy the game from start to finish, which is a bit confusing to be honest. I guess the game was just paced well enough that I didn't really care if it wasn't trying anything new. It comes together better than the reviews suggest.
EDIT: Gamespot keeps stealing my spaces.
No, just no. The game was good...................................thats it.:|
Its not over-rated, its not under-rated
I give it a 7.0 judging from Sakaguchi's previous work, its been done and Lost Odyssey just feels like it expands on the type of stories hes told for about a decade (literally). Not that thats a bad thing. I love his story telling, but I feel that this certain story and game was just testing out the what the 360 coulddo with a big budget JRPGand what it was capable of power wise.
Its definitly not underrated though, not by a long shot. GOOD game though. The ring system was a nice addition to combat and the dreams were a nice side-quest.
The ending was rather pleasant and emotional as well.Looks like the old mans stillgot it.
