So are hype threads really done here or are the games that hit that high mark just so surprising that no one expected anything out of them?
I notice that Street Fighter V is coming up and that's a big one but no hype thread?

I dont think weve had nothing big worth being hyped, i guess Fire Emblem Fates would be next, im not sure. 3DS i think is only system with big games coming.

I guess it's fine for those who likes hype. Not me. It's just one big gossipfest. I rather read about actual reviews of the final product.
there's a sticky for hype threads on the front page. Pretty sure there was an XCOM 2 hype thread floating around this month
It's a casharmy thread so PC RTS doesn't count.

We have a list of upcoming hype threads outside of system wars and you can look to see what's coming up for hype threads this year or so. system wars hype thread list
XCOM 2 hype thread is up, next month is SFV turn to get the hype thread, and I'll be doing Quantum Break hype thread as well at the last week of March 2016.
Why start a hype topic weeks before a game is released?
Simply put, to get best information out on hyping that game a week later before the game is release, that's what hype threads are for. It becomes useless after the game has been release a few days passed and making hype threads hard business but worth the creativity.
We don't have concrete dates for a lot of them. But I guess we should have Quantum break and Uncharted ones right about now.
Ya'll are slacking.
Yeah hype threads are pretty much dead here especially when the metagame got killed and you have to claim hype threads and shit to create one lol. I know the changes were to mean well but it just did the opposite. Hype threads are just for shit and giggles but with the changes it took the fun out. The changes favors one faction more than others too now so yeah it's dead.
I'll admit I do appreciate when people put in a lot of effort into informative hype threads. Even if I don't care for the game. Like charizard did with black ops 3 for example. Even though the game turned out to be shit it was still a good hype thread.
This forum just isn't active the way it used to be, plus this forums fighting game community is limited to like me, onesan when he makes guest appearances and like 2 other people. Hence the lack of Street Fighter V stuff, speaking of which I do need to be buying a new arcade stick.
SW has changed.
SW never changes.

How is an arcade stick for Street Fighter compared to gamepads and keyboards? I totally suck with a DualShock lol.
Plenty of them I'm sure. There is a sign up sheet in sticky. Since Lems have shown they are shy to make them after Halo 5 flopped-AAA on LOCK only to AA FLOP, I have stood up and will be making one for Recore. But I am an unbiased manticore, seems fitting I would pick up the slack,

yep, only games for the casual masses are allowed to be displayed. RTS games are for the more intelligent beings.

Not really, they are making Halo wars 2 after all. And that's from MS who lol'd at AOE and killed it.
Oh, a hype thread is coming in February. A hype thread for a masterpiece that had been wronged in the past...
Pssssh it was hardly wronged... 8.8 is a pretty on-the-mark score for what TP was. Now... if the world were just a bit more filled with activity, the wolf fetch-quests a little less tedious and the game just a wee bit more challenging (Like the OoT Master Quest edition) then I'm all for giving it a 10!
Anyways looking at the hype reservations thread I don't think we can complain about games not getting their due hype here, can we?

Honestly, it seems like this forum's activity was decimated (I.E. reduced to a tenth) ever since the site redesign a few years ago. That seemed like the catalyst. Hype threads back in the day used to get north of 10,000 posts each, in a matter of days. Some were like 300+ pages, and moved so fast you couldnt even keep up. Go look at the MGS4 and GTA4 hype threads.
Now go look up the hype/launch threads of the PS4/XB1, and see how dead they were in comparison.
Same with most E3 threads (that predate the update). You can easily follow an E3 thread (during E3) now.
SW has changed.
SW never changes.

There is a huge learning curve, but once you learn, it's hard to go back to anything else. It is the ideal way to play a fighting game if you want to get good at them.

What?!?! Girl, you crazy.
You want challenging? Hero Mode in Twilight Princess HD. You want a little less tedious wolf fetch quests? The number of Tears of Light that you'll have to fetch in a given area looks like it's been decreased from 16 to 12. That sounds a little less tedious to me. ;)
I look forward to your vote of AAAA hype in the hype thread. Thank you for your support, ianhh6!

Lets hope it does well then both on console and pc, maybe then console users dont have to play the same reskinned casual shooting gallery and hack and slash game over and over again. Some variation is always good for any gamer

How much do they cost regularly?
Dragon's Dogma could have used a hype thread maybe.
Rise of the Tomb Raider just came out.
I mean the proper games not the console versions.
Dragon's Dogma on PC is great, Tomb Raider is mostly a PC version of Uncharted but this one actually has Tombs to raid annnd a memory leak minigame. Not well optimized but obviously still the version to play. Gotten a little too cinematic for my taste.
Hype threads happen when we're within 2-3 weeks of a majorly hyped game's launch. If somebody makes a good one, and the topic creator tells the moderators they are making one, then we'll sticky it.
However, a good hype thread doesn't need to be stickied to stay on the front page. If a game is hyped enough, a well made hype thread will bounce around long enough for the moderation staff to notice. So far I haven't' seen one bouncing around for XCOM 2 so I'm not going to go out of my way to make one that's going to get very little traffic. Back in the day we used to have 3+ hype threads made for a game before a moderator consolidated them into one and stickied it. Nobody is really doing that anymore.
If you want a hype thread make one and keep it bumped (within reason, no "bump" posts). We let the community here decide which games are worthy of a hype thread.
