So wait. It won't have it's OWN multiplayer, but it will basically be Halo: 3 multiplayer with new maps and mystic in it? Meh, that's fine.
I want to player the SP though.
This is such a missed opportunity for bungie. This was a chance for them to step out of their comfort zone and be a bit more adventurous. When the rumors about them moving away from the Halo games first surfaced I remember thinking that was a good move for them, but it seems they have slipped backwards.
I would at least have liked to see them try something new like a squad based FPS in the vain of Republic Commando.

I disagree. The team working on this project seem to enjoy working on this last cap on the missing details left unanswered in between Halo 2 and Halo 3.
Also, Bungie as a whole, don't seem to be treating this as a major project of theirs. In fact, they ARE stepping outside of their comfort zone with the other 2 titles that are underway. I think this is just them doing a favor for Microsoft for letting them leave and become independant.
Their other two full blown projects are completely nrew IP, assargentbotk pointed out. This is such a missed opportunity for bungie. The thing is Halo 3 is meant to be the end of the story for Bungie, so even if this is a little side project they should have tried something a bit different from Halo 3 to show that they are moving on from that. This could have been like a transition game where the game is set in the Halo universe but they try some new things instead of just changing the lead character.
They need to transition the Halo fans to buying their next non-halo game and this was an opportunity lost.

they have other projects in the works...this is just the smallest one.
Sounds like a big waste of time.
Same Halo 3 engine, same weapons, Flop confirmed.
Very disappointed in Bungie.
Im not very hyped about this game with what Bungie press release has said.
This game has a short development cycle and bungie is devoting a smaller dev team to this. It sounds like this project isnt being treated as a full fledged project. So until we see some quality gameplay videos, Im going to put my foot down and not expect anything particularly great about this game.
I really hope that Bungie is doing this project as a favor for MS and halo fans and not to just make money from loyal halo fans by pointlessly extending a money making franchise. I guess we'll see next spring when the price of this game is released. If its around 30 dollars, I'll know that Bungie has really kept their word.

It's still just a side project on Bungie's part. They aren't seeing this as a major project like the past Halo games. Bungie also don't have to do anything to try and help their fans feel comfortable with their future projects. The fans will be willing to take on what ever other project they are working on.
Bungie are good to their fans. They listen and they change what they feel must be changed from what the fans suggest. Most non Halo fans will just see this as a waste of time, but the ones that stay true and interested in the Universes story points will eat this up and buy it in an instant.
Again, this is probably just a request from MS to Bungie. And they are showing they are moving on with the 2 other projects they have in the works.
I sort of thought the same thing. You'd figure after leaving Microsoft, Bungie would actually want to make use of its independence. Instead, it's just pumping out yet another Halo.Sounds like a big waste of time.

1) Lets face it MS is going to have someone make Halo 4, and most Halo fans are more likely to get that game than Bungies next game simply because Halo is a more recognisable name than Bungie. Most fans are more interested in the title than the people who make the game.
2) Since this is a small side project it was the perfect opportunity for Bungie to experiment with different gameplay without taking much risk. It is a side story so they could have done anything with the game. Do you think MS would have complained if Bungie said they wanted to do a TPS instead of an FPS with this game?
3) This was a chance for Bungie not only to try out new things they wanted to do in their next game to see what works and what doesn't, but also to set up a fanbase different to the main Halo fanbase. For example if thier next project is going to be a tactical FPS then they could have made this game a tactical FPS so that more people would give it a chance than if it was a new IP. Then when they released their new game they would appeal to the fans they built on the back of this game instead of having to compete for the fans of Halo 3 with the next Halo game being made by someone else.
