Final Fantasy X is a great one. Shadow of the Colossus, and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time has a good love story too. Plus some other ones of course.

Man this thread makes me wish there was a really good love story driven game this generation. It would need to have a sick story line to work though. I was actually kind of sad that FF vs 13 main plot was not a love story. Don't get me wrong I don't want every game I play to have a love story, but a good love story once in awhile gives different type of revolving story line.

I'm disappointed that no one mentioned ICO. The horned boy protagonist is imprisoned in a castle, and can escape easily on his own. Yet he sacrifices every opportunity at a quick escape due to his resolve to protect a mysterious girl prisoner whom he literally just met and freed from her cage. At one point, he literally gave up his one chance to flee all because he prioritized the safety of the imprisoned girl, despite knowing little about her (and being unable to communicate with her due to a language barrier).

It's a beautiful, mysterious love story that unfortunately slips past many gamers (and reviewers).

Also noteworthy is Shadow Of The Colossus. Wander, the protagonist, goes above and beyond what any mortal would face in order to save his loved one, to the point of sacrificing his own soul and humanity. Now that's dedication.

Surprisingly, both games are produced by Team ICO, and they seem to show an exemplary quality at creating great art pieces for love stories in a game.

Man thats commitment to a girl. If some strange voice was like "ok to save her you must face multiple HUGE giants" I would have said meh we werent that close anyway.

LOL, you sir, just made my day

Well besides Shadow of the Colossus, i'll say Final Fantasy VIII and of course Crono Trigger.

Most definitely. It is the epitome of a well-told story-book romance except in the end it isn't "and they lived happily ever after." Even if it is somewhat uplifting, you do feel somewhat depressed about those involved and what they had to suffer in order to be together.

Wander is the man. He in and of himself is pretty much the best and most selfless human being anyone could ever hope to be. He gives everything he has to save Mono from her fate and does so without a shred of regret or unwillingness in his heart. When Dormin tells him that what he may have to pay in order to get Mono back, the tone in the voice actor's delivery of "It doesn't matter." even when it is in a completely fictional and non-existent language, is so incredibly moving, you just know that he is doing this for her and her alone.

Indeed. Team ICO definitely are extremely under-appreciated developers.

Plus, Ico technically is a descendant of Wander... so its no wonder he is so willing to give all he does. :P

I would pick FF8 for a lot of reasons but I thought that squall's inhuman denseness kind of made it awkward. FFX's developed a little on the quick side.

Valkyrie profile has a couple of very romantic einheriar stories, but most end tragically given the fact that they have to die.

FF7's love story is pretty nice (the part involving the past). Jealousy and self loathing, what good is a love story without those things?

MGS (Sniper wolf) haha I just thought this was hilarious and touching at the same time.

Solid_Link22

A spoiler warning would have been nice :( Now I wont play the game anymore.

Well it's no real spoiler...I mean the setup of VP is that every character you recruit dies, which is how you recruit them...it just so happens that some of those deaths involve romance.

[QUOTE="Wiishy"]What videogame has the best love story? All I can think about on my list is Final Fantasy X.DontBeHatin1983
FF8

FF8 had good romance scenes, but Squall had such little personality or conversational skills in him, there was almost no reason for him to fall in love with Rinoa at all. Replace Squall's personality with Cloud's personality, and you have a game with great romance.
