Ok can't get worse than that.kuraimen

:P

I actually like those Disney characters way more than the Angry Birds Star Wars ones. The angry birds have no personalities.

I really hope that Disney can make Lucasarts produce good games again... maybe allow a Battlefront 3 to be made (the heads of Lucasarts were real idiots for canceling it) even morse so than make a good new Star Wars movie.

This is epic news. Maybe Battlefront 3 will finally be coming. Also this means Star Wars in Kingdom Hearts 3! Awesome, I can see a Tron/Star Wars crossover. Marvel too.

The possibilities are endless. :)

Give mé the Darth Bane trilogi and I'll be forever happy. It would actually somewhat fit in since it's the story of how the rule of two came to be. It also shows us how the Sith was when they were numerous. Since this is now owned by Disney they could always follow up and give us some Old Republic stuff :3

I also remembered something else interesting: Joe Johnston (the creator of Boba Fett) said about a year or two ago that he wants to direct a Boba Fett spinoff movie. Given that Disney now owns Marvel who has built themselves somewhat of a cinematic dynasty with the interconnected Marvel Superhero films, and Joe Johnston directed one of those movies (Captain America), I can't help but wonder if Johnston's wish is a little closer to being fulfilled?

I wonder if Star Wars could end up being expanded into new movie franchises set within the Star Wars universe using the same model that Marvel has been going with? "Star Wars" is always going to be the main saga, however I think there's definitely room there for popular side characters like Boba Fett to end up getting their own films. Heck, Star Wars and the Marvel Universe movies even share an actor (Samuel L Jackson). :P

Also, in case anyone is worried that the buyout will affect 1313's self-declared status as the first M-rated Star Wars game, keep in mind that Disney published this:

256px-Turok_2008.jpg

It sounds like Lucasfilm will be retaining a fairly decent amount of autonomy in spite of the buyout much like Marvel has, and I don't think Lucas would have agreed to the buyout if he was going to lose control of the ranch. He is getting a bit on in years and is probably keeping the future of his empire in mind, and with Disney being the stewards of many other iconic properties he probably decided that this was the best fit. I'm not really worried, since Disney at least hasn't ruined Marvel yet (Joe Quesada was able to ruin their print division all on his own well before the buyout was finalized, after all).

There's nothing inherent to Star Wars that can explain why their basic execution as films went to sh!t.

Yes, there is. If you didn't know already, Star Wars is Joseph Campbell's monomyth science-fictionalized. Campbell's monomyth was suppose to be a tool to understand why stories have similar qualities across cultures. It wasn't supposed to be a story itself. So either two things were going through Lucas's head at the time: 1) He was being ingeniously avant-garde as a young man, like he was with his prior efforts. 2) He was an idiot and he didn't get it. Whatever the case, Star Wars happened, and as Campbell theorized, the monomyth is something the masses can readily recognize. But as I said, it's not an actual story. That's why it's sucked ever since the first one. If you're a fan of the franchise, it's sucked since the second one, but then the Empire Strikes Back only makes sense because it serves to embellish the first; ESB cannot exist without A New Hope. Once Star Wars started believing in its own mythology by Return of the Jedi, it was only certain to go down hill and never come back.

I'm not, so I guess that explains it.

I just like the first three films because they're generally very well executed and the universe is interesting, and I hate the later three because they're not and they do bad things to the universe. The grander plot arc is not what I enjoy or care about in that series.

Yeah, to me Star Wars' universe felt like it could only support 3 movies at most. They told a simple enough story where they didn't have to explain too many intricate details into how its universe worked. Also, it kind of irks me when people like to simplify things and blame Lucas for all of Star Wars' faults while everyone else gets a free pass.

I agree somewhat. At least in the first two movies, the stories were simple, but what shone was the cinematic language it was effortlessly so good at. Music, sound effects, visual effects... it didn't need its really bad dialogue to get the point across. That's its lasting legacy. It's telling though, that Harrison Ford wanted out by Return of the Jedi. He's probably the only actor worth his salt from the original trilogy, and he never really liked his character.
"As a character he was not so interesting to me. I thought he should have died in the last one, just to give it some bottom. George didn't think there was any future in dead Han toys."Harrison Ford
Heh. George might not be the greatest storyteller ever, but he sure as hell knows how to make money.

Meh, I don't care whether or not the stories are as good as they could've been. There aren't a lot of good sci fi/space/fantasy movies that I want to watch (looking forward to the new Star Trek one though). As long as I'm entertained and care about the universe I'm all in for it, fortunately I like the star wars universe.

With that said there's also a limit to how sh1tty movies can be. Promotheus was 'decent', but overall just utterly useless and only an inch better than Alien vs Predator. In fact the overall plot is actually quite similar to each other. I like the Alien movies so here's hoping if they go forward with the series (which I believe they will at some time) they better not make it sh1tty like Alien 3 (I can somewhat accept this though), 4 and Promotheus x_x
