OSX is pretty terrible for games. It doesn't get most of the games, those it gets it most of the time gets a lot later and it's pretty badly written when it comes to advanced 3D graphics (which is why Mac versions perform slower on the same hardware compared to Windows). That said...it's just OS. Mac itself is simply another brand of PCs now, like HP or Dell. You can install Windows on it and enjoy all the gaming you want.

Why buy a Mac if you're just gonna put Windows on it, which would nullify any benefit of going with a Mac in the first place?

err... Cubase and Reason are can be installed on Mac. Logic is exclusive.

Is Vegas better than final cut?

I already stated that linux is better than both. You don't need Exchange if you arnt using windows. A mac server has the equivilant.

And ah... yeah, why not add a SSD? or buy a mac that already has one?

AntiType

the point was there is no reason to spend double just to get an exclusive program. these aren't games.

vegas is more or less the same as final cut. they both have their pros and cons. once again, no reason to spend double on a mac

i said windows was better simply because linux/bsd have webservers covered, and windows can run exchange. i have not encountered a business that ran whatever the mac equivalent is. how come i can sign into my exchange account on my iphone...? where is the mac equivalent?

if you buy a mac that has an ssd they will overcharge you. macosx is not inherently faster than windows 7. marketing ****

Wait... you said there was a problem with SSD on macs..., that is isn't quicker? You just fell back to the overpriced arguement? listen WE KNOW. we are talking about PERFORMANCE in things other than games here. Price isnt an issue if you are buying a mac.

Its not just exclusive software. Midi latancy is MUCH better on a mac, out of the box. Stock windows drivers are not useable. Custom ones are still lagging behind.

yeah. why buy mac and pay double then buy a ssd. pc is just cheaper for same spec cant argue. windows performs the same if not better than mac in other things too. what is this apple II days?? i.e. photoshop can take advantage of much better GPUs than macs have support for (quadro 4800 vs quadro 6000 lol). btw get a decent sound card.

cubase and nuendo are only 64bit on windows too. no 64bit for mac

I use a mac because i want a mac. If i want a pc then I will just get a pc. There's really no reason to spend more on a computer if you don't need a mac. My work just got us a couple of 12 cores mac pros with 24gb of ram for over 10 grands a piece excluding softwares. Not for us to put windows on it so we can play crysis on max, but so that i can have more little squares chewing the rendering scene in my picture viewer. I know a lot of studios prefer to use PCs for their stuff but i'd rather shoot myself if i ever have to work on a pc.

well your work just blew a load of cash they didnt need to. windows is better for graphical editing, as i said above, because it supports newer quadros.

btw apple charges you like 2.5g for 24GB RAM. talk about ripoff.

Mac pros have a good build quality.

And you are wrong about PC's can do everything better than a mac. Audio Editing, software synthesizers work better on a mac, video edititing, mac servers are better then windows ones (though Linux is better than both). Working with OSX on anything is so much quicker than windows 7 and earlier.

AntiType

A/V editing is debatable. While it's true that some industry standard software for a/v editing is Mac only, the Windows equivalents are just as good. As for servers that is just BS. Mac servers are horrid and no sys admin ever wants to deal with one. They don't properly work with even in tandem with other Mac Servers. Throw in an environment where you need to work with Linux and Windows servers as well and well there's a big reason that Macs have such a low presence in business environments. Mac servers are absolutely the worst and no one uses them besides maybe Pixar and that is only for rendering.

To OP if you're serious about getting a Mac then get the cpu and video card you want and leave everything else as low as possible. You can add HDDs and Memory yourself for much cheaper than what Apple charges you.

If you plan on doing things like music(as in editing, recording etc)on top of gaming i would say get the mac.

But since the birth of intel mac's you can dual boot windows and OSX so it makes said point negligable aswell. If you want the mac and gaming might aswell make it a dual boot with boot camp.

Something i plan on doing once i get my own flat so i have recording space and maybe a decent setup for that.

Some people just one a shiny and pretty Apple product BUT also want to run games. I love the Mac because it looks good and is great quality but I also run Win 7 via Boot Camp to play the occasional game.

Is there really that much of a lack of support for MAC gaming? I know that STEAM is available. Thinking of grading my computer and want a MAC.

Tell if these Specs are good.

27 inch monitor

I5 Processor 3.60 GHZ

1 Terabyte HDD

8 GB RAM

5760 ATI graphics card 512mb.

Steam has their MAC store, but it is limited compared to their PC section. If you have the money - and don't specifically need a MAC - then go for a cheaper PC with higher-end components. Either build yourself, or purchase the components and have a "mom & pop" store stick it together for $40-$50.

What will you be doing specifically? I have never run out of memory, and I use 4gb's with all my PC games. If you do go PC, then with newer end motherboards you will likely be using Tri-Channel for DDR3, which'll net you 6gb's (i.e. plenty). If you're doing things like 3d-processing, video/audio-processing, then the extra memory is very nice, as you can run out super quick with some software.
