[QUOTE="skrat_01"]To quote myself from another thread: GTA IV actually tried to be much more like Mafia than previous GTA titles. A compelling 'real' plot, much more realistic scenarios and game systems (and mechanics), and a singleplayer that was more about driving a tightly scripted story within an open world. The result is that it failed completely in that regard; it became repetitive, rinse and repeat and the plot fell by the waist side. Mafia 2 however looks to continue the tradition of the first, and from what I played in the demo it certainly is better. Only thing really missing at the moment is being able to fire a weapon while driving; however the detail of the game is absolutely stunning.skrat_01

It should be noted Red Dead did a better job then GTA 4.

From what I have read I am inclined to agree, though I hear the mission design is still the usual restrictiveness - and the open world is a step forwards from an elaborate hub that it has been in GTA.

The Story is also a ton better then IV and has a very sad ending that does a better job then IV aswell. :)

Even though Red Dead was a better game overall than GTA4, no way in hell did it have a better story. It just completely falls apart by the time you get the Mexico, and it slowly builds itself up after you leave. It was decent overall, but it was very inconsistent.

Look, I know it has better graphics and thats all that matters to you kids, but IMO GTA IV had an oscar worthy plot, excellent voice acting and a cast of interesting characaters that is rarely seen in videogames, let alone open world ones in this day and age. This is what really matters to me and for that, I simply adore GTA IV.

yet it had terrible sandbox design, zero player impact and a plot that dragged into go kill X, rinse and repeat padding.

Most sandbox games have little real player impact if any, so you really can't just fault GTA4 for that. Also, while there were a fair amount of filler missions, there were some very well designed missions. Some of which didn't even involve much action.

Really? So we should forgive GTA IV for not being up to the standards of games like Crackdown... because other games also fall into this category? GTA IV did have some great missions, problem was the vast majority sucked. It was the anti-sandbox game, and scaled back the emergent design from previous titles. If anything as far as action sandbox games go the GTA formula has dated terribly next to games like Crackdown and Red Faction; game design has moved forwards, GTA clung to a highly detailed mission hub and reliance on a driving narrative; personally I don't think it worked in the games favor at all.

I like the 50s vibe in Mafia 2, though. Graphics are a little iffy for me, and there were slow downs when the demo just loaded a save, but overall, I felt that the game is a solid AA and worth a look if you're into action games.

I'm going to have to agree with the others earlier in the thread: Saint's Row 2 was definitely better than GTAIV. I'm not going to claim it had a better storyline or better characters, but it was simply "fun" while GTAIV just wasn't.

Also, why Do you Capitalize the First letter of random Words.
