Grand Theft Auto IV

Chirantan Patnaik, a resident of Mumbai, India, became an official Guinness Record holder last month when he clocked over 40 continuous hours playing Rockstar's 2008 smash Grand Theft Auto IV.Patnaik, who has a day job as an equities trader, isn't done, either: he plans to challenge his own record in an attempt to make it to 48 hours. The previous record was held by a U.S. citizen and stood at a mere 28 hours and one minute

LINK

so the longest gaming session i ever played was 24 hours of Splinter cell 1... and the longest GTA session i ever played was 8 hours.

so what was your longest session and do you think you can beat this guy?

I'll play through Gay tony in one sitting, doubt that'll hit 40 hours though. Probably a multiplayer session for me, nothing for then 10 hours though.

That isn't really an accomplishment in my opinion. Mind you, I have never played a game even close to that length in a row (my closest was probably DK 64 ten years ago for about 6 hours straight) but I still don't find it Guiness worthy

I would get so flipping bored, or at least want to play a different video game The most I have ever played is probably Halo 2 for roughly 10 hours, but that was back when Ill I did was game. Now I can hardly do 2-4 hours straight without getting bored/busy

Of course I do, what did he do that was productive in any manner during those 40 hours? Did he help the economy by working? Did he help a person in need? Did he help the needy? Did he educate his mind on many glaring factors that need attention in this world? No? Ok, so waste of time am confirmed. You cannot tell me it wasn't a waste of time, don't be naive and try to defend those by declaring I must have some kind of "right" to declare what is most obviously a fact. Obtaining a name in the Guinness Book of World Records would have meant something back in 1980 but now-a-days it contains mediocre filled "achievements" of ego boosting and wasteful celebration on those without any ability to do something more productive and meaningful to our world or as a human being. Idleness is a waste of life.

If him doing something that doesn't effect anything makes it a "waste of time" wouldn't doing any of those things be a "waste of time" as in the grand scale of things they don't effect anything at all?

Helping out the world and people around you or yourself has more prominent and long lasting effects on life, over something as trivial as spending time on a single video game for almost two days worth of valuable time. After all the most valuable resource you can have is time. Why waste it over something so trivial when there's a world out there to explore and starts to transcend! Limit yourself no more and continue onward to the path of life! Be not the stone that gathers moss and roll ahead, face the world and defeat the noise! But in all seriousness folks, it's a waste of time. Whether you agree or not is fine by me, but you're in a state of denial if you cannot believe he could have seriously done something more productive. Better your social life maybe? How about your mind? Limit yourself to staying at home for two days with no time used to gain something, find something, or learn a valuable lesson in life? Talk about B-O-R-I-N-G!

I bet any single person can be in the Guinness Book of Records for any single stupid reason. Just because this guy got recognition doesn't make it an accomplishment. Does this person have any ability over others that limits them from playing this game for 40 hours? No. Therefore, it is not anything worth accolades

I'm curious too... I played a marathon of Silent Hill 2 with friends two weeks ago. It wasn't a single run through, but we probably played about 5 hours worth, can anyone prove me they did more than that in one sitting? I want my recognition!!! Or how about my Halo 3 marathon? That lasted about ... 10 hours? Yeah!!! Well actualy I don't have proof, but believe me... I don't lie. :)

You just wasted time posting that when you could've did something.

Why does everyone have to hate on everything? Either say something useful or don't say anything at all. I wish we would just have a nuclear war. Majority of people on this planet don't even deserve to live.

Do we always have to be nicey nice with everyone? Must the world never actually make critiques against mediocrity to improve? Or should we just disbelieve that our world it perfect, human kind is infallible, and we should never "hurt" ones feelings, be it as it may... criticism is the only way to better ones life. Don't try to put yourself on a pedestal above me believing that "Majority of people on this planet don't even deserve to live." How arrogant and cruel can you be? Seriously you value no life and view all forms of life different than your own as irrelevant to this world. That's quite shallow if I do say so. Open up your world to new heights and take a stand! Man yourself up! This world will not improve if everyone is always "playing nice" with everyone. That's a fool's mindset that will lose the war! Lastly, I may have wasted time with my post, but I'm bettering the life of those around me by educating them about criticism, and how it can be a positive influence if taken to heart and given some thought. Not retaliated like someone jammed a stick of beef jerky up your butt.

Well there was one guy who when on a WoW marathon, playing for almost an entire week. But he died, probably becasue of the deprivation and possible malnourishment.

These stories are just that, stories. Take one popular game that people try to play in marathon form, and drag out the actual time by a ridiculous amount to make it seem interesting. I refuse to believe anyone could sit at the computer for more than 2 days and not fall asleep, because after 2 days your body can involuntarily start to enter sleep, and you have to be kept awake by outside forces.

Define "play," the guy could've just sat there with the controller in his hand doing nothing. Anyways, probably about 15 hours.

Why did he pick such a boring game to play for 40 hours?

Or he could have just left the controller standing still and gone to do something productive (than he would have redeemed himself a slight bit) but in all seriousness there's no standard set now is there? If so, it's mediocrity at it's finest!

He chooses how to spend it, you don't have any right to determine if he "wasted" any time on anything.

ThePRAssassin

Of course I do, what did he do that was productive in any manner during those 40 hours? Did he help the economy by working? Did he help a person in need? Did he help the needy? Did he educate his mind on many glaring factors that need attention in this world? No?

Wow... just wow. Wanting humanity to just die off and for billions of lives to be ended... over one comment on a game forum... you're pathetic.
