these threads make me
cmon guys, lets take a break for a minute and look what sony's intention was with the Ps3
they tried to fix the flaws of the Ps2, which was the weakest system, by making the Ps3 a technical powerhouse. they also wanted to make the hardware reliable, unlike the Ps2's hardware, so they did. Doing so, they sacrificed the cheapness of the Ps2 and put out a $600 console. It doesn't really matter that the Ps2 sold 150 million units, because 150 million people aren't going to shell $600 more out for another console. I mean cmon, you guys wanted more shooters on the Ps2 last gen, and now that we have shooters, everyone's complaining that there are TOO MANY shooters. From my perspective, sony catered to the fans this gen. and they're doing a fine job of that. I bought Ps3 for exculsives, and so far they've all been top notch (the ones ive played, so no BUT LAIR!!!), as the hardware has been as well.
you don't think sony knew they had to sacrifice some sales for quality? sure, the sales have been disapointing, sure we didnt need bluray, but we got them. the sales aren't bad, they are good for such an expensive machine, they are DISAPOINTING though.
but who cares? time in and time out, we get quality games from sony, isnt that what matters? now that the Ps3 has games, i guess we have to undermine that with sales right?

Excellent post. Sony absolutely knew they were taking a huge gamble when they released the ps3 at $600 and with an unproven tech like blu ray. I applaud them for having the balls to do something like that. Out of every company I trust Sony's strategy the most with their console. The PS3 may not come out on top this gen but Blu Ray has been established and that was the most important thing for Sony to capitalize on this gen.
