and proof you are not insane for not getting SMG
I enjoyed R&C Future Tools more as well. I had issues with the camera and controls in SMG. I disliked that the camera lagged behind you, often leading to hidden death traps such as black holes. I also hated that the developers felt the need to add waggle for something that could have been done just as easy with a simple button press.
I actually agree with you. Nothing kept me interested in mario galaxy at all. The story was non existant and the character were meh. So nothing was pulling me in to play the game. Maybe thats why I think SPM was wayyy more fun then SMG. Since SPM made me feel like the game had personality.finalfantasy94
Umm...Judging by your username, you are a JRPG player.....Then why are you playing a Platformer? Mario Platforming games have always had one story (Princess Peach got kidnapped....again....You have to save her....Again). Rather, it's all about quirky gravity, "Twitch" type jumping action and level design that KILLS all other games, whether they are FPS, RPG or whatever! That's the Mario Platform experience. SPM is more like SUper Mario RPG elements mixed with very little platforming and Rachet these days are more like an action-adventure game with some platforming thrown in......So if you like RPG games or games with story lines, then you came to the wrong house.
[QUOTE="ps3wizard45"]I agree Rachet was and allways will be the greatest action adventure series of all time ! Krigon
Ratchet is a platformer.
Well, like him, to me, Ratchet these days are more and more like an action game with a few platforming elements thrown in. It's gotten more and more away from a true platforming game like SMG. SMG on the other hand, is a true and true platforming game, espeically the "One start" galaxy parts like Sweet Sweet Galaxy (OHH MY GOD!!!! That one was SSSOOOO awsome in platforming goodness!) . Ratchet these days are about bigget and bigger and badder weapons and stuff, less on platforming. So you can indeed call it an action game!

Because im a gamer and I play all differnt types of games. Of course a platfomer cant have a good story with interesting characters oh wait jak series. I mean that has to be all oh man i forgot the sly cooper games. Also rachet games are platformers just with guns. Also if anything SPM for wii is like the classic mario games only with a level up system so yea. Just cause a game is a platformer doesint mean it cant have a good story and interesting characters. Im not saying SMG is a bad game in anyway. Its just its like of story and interesting characters didint do anything for me.

I had the exact opposite experiance. Usually, what pulls me into a game, and keeps me playing is the compelling story... that's one of the reasons that Starfox is my favorite Nintendo IP. However, Galaxy, with almost no story past the minimum required stars, keeps pulling me back, simply from sheer enjoyment of the game.
Mario Galaxy was ok but i found it boring i made myself play it because well its mario, the music was nice though . Ratchet and clank was muchmore fun though, and it had a variety of gameplay.PS3Breeder
I've got both systems and played both. Galaxy is easily the superior game.

Again, you are playing Mario platformers for the whole wrong reasons! Jak and Daxter again (IMO at least) are now more action than platforming, so is Sly in some way. SPM is the original Paper Mario RPG with platforming elements added (and in a way, it became stuck in two genres and became a master of none. Have to agree with Yahzee of Zero Punctuation fame on this one).
True Mario Platforming are all about one thing. Despense with the story and characters. They are only fillers. The focus of these games are all 100% Platforming, the same type of "Twitch" gameplay that harken back to the original Super Mario Bro. dayz. It's all about clever level design, new gameplay ideas (like the Raccon LEave, Tonooki Suit, gravity and sling shot pots in this game etc), different ways for platforming, new power ups (The Boo Mario and Ice Mario are awesome to say the least).
If you like good story line, good character development with generic platforming gameplay thrown in, then you'll love Rachet, Jak and SPM. But if you like TRUE to the brim platforming goodness that cut no other mustard and the expense of everything else, then SMG is simply the best of the best of the best there is, no questions asked! And some of its gameplay ideas and level design simply beat the pants off any other game (AFter Sweet Sweet Gaxlaby, I have to collect my jaws off the floor and then went back and played it again just for good measure).

SPM is just like the classic mario nes and snes games. What are the differences tell me besides leveling up and talking and using different characters. Anything thats has to do with an RPG yahzee will 98% hate. I dont take his "reviews" serious its just a joke to me. Hes the british AVGN.You can say Jak,sly and R&C arent platformers but they are. Jak went down the action rode a bit with 2 and 3 but 1 was platforming and all with good charaters and story. Also if you call Jak,Sly and R&C geniric in the gameplay department the real question is whats wrong with you.

SPM did have some classic mario platforming, not all. No power-ups (each power ups assigned to a specific character and only Mario can switch in-between 2D and 3D). AGain, jack of two genres, master of none. The first game in the Jak, Ratchet and Sly are all platformers. But it's the later games that deviates more and more into the action territory. Ratchet: FToD to me is more than 65% action, less than 35% platform. Mario is about 90% platform, 10% everything else! and that's where diverge from! This is why I think the gameplay for all those other games are "Generic". Ratchet is like what? on it's 6th game (counting all verisons) in the past 5 years. All they did was add more new weapons, more action and less platform. Jak, counting all version, something like 4 games in 5 years. MArio Platforms, 7 games in the past 23 years! And each time (maybe discounting Mario Sunshine), something new is offered. MArio Galaxy has one section that confused the hell out of me until I realized the gravity were reversed. I can't PUSH the block, but I can jump over it....while upside down on the "ceiling". And then there is one galaxy where you are standing on a rohumbus, the tiles falls away if you stand on it for more than 2 seconds! This is "Twitch" platforming at its finest! Something Jak, Sly, Ratchet etc. does not offer too much these days.

^ This man speaks the thruth.NO U!
Sorry, but mario is the reigning champion of the platformer after you remove the fanboy goggles
I'm just gonna paste these gifs here...

What was the point in posting these? I've platformed on spherical worlds before. I've platformed upside-down before. The only thing impressive about these are the cool gravity effects, except for the 4th, which is extremely average codidering all youre doing is jumping. If your saying gravity eare all mario needs to beat Ratchet then you and I have the bar set at very different levels.

Are you living in Fantasy Land? Mario already beat Ratchet
In fact comparing both is a little insulting
considering you breed PS3's, going to have to put this with 'fanboy ramblings'...i've played both, and R&C is fun, but no where close to Super Mario Galaxy

Hey opinions are opinions, but we are talking about the Game Of The Year and the third best rated game of all time here ;)
Second highest rated game of all time, actually.

Well, i went by Gamerankings, which unfortunatly has that POS of a game called GTAIV in second place, ughh!!

I went by GameRankings as well. Let me explain why I said what I said.
People keep discrediting The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time score because it was only taken from 31 reviews. Applying that same logic to this scenario, Grand Theft Auto IV for the PS3 only has 58 reviews compared to Super Mario Galaxy's 73 reviews and the scores are very, very similar. Despite having 15 more reviews, SMG still scored a nearly identical score to GTA IV for the PlayStation 3.
Ratchet sucks. Even on PS2, Jak and Sly were so much better. Ah no he's kinda fun. But Mario Galaxy is sooooo much better.
If we were comparing Ratchet to Mario Sunshine, that's a legitimate argument. But Galaxy just blows Ratchet away. If you prefered Ratchet, you're wrong :P
