Nintendo is struggling to sell its Wii U console against the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. However, thanks to Mario Kart 8, that may no longer be the case.

Less than two days after pre-orders became available for fans, Mario Kart 8 is already sold out on Amazon. When you go to view the game, you will be greeted by a message that reads, “Sign up to be notified when this item becomes available.”

This may very well be the game that helps turn things around for a floundering Wii U. With Mario Kart 8, and the impending launch of Super Smash Bros., the Wii U just might have a chance to rebound in this console race.

Mario Kart 8 launches on May 30.

Ah, if Mario Kart 8 somehow manages to help a floundering Wii U, it will be so amazing to see!

Unless they bundled it, controller debatable, I don't think people will buy it individually off retail shelves, because the Installbase is not there. But if they bundle it...... People may jump to the Wii U.

Yes, Mario Kart 8 is sure to be an absolute blast! I am definitely looking forward to it.

But of course you are more hyped for PC games, right? Are you still keeping up that charade?

All the consoles are still in stock though. This game will give the WiiU a bump in sales no doubt, but the console is destined for last place this gen.

Heil, no one ever says the Wii U won't be last place (well no one reasonable). The thing with games like Mario Kart and Smash Bros. is, they might prevent the Wii U from finding itself in the ghastly position it finds itself in right now for much longer.

Should be a great thing for Wii U. This, Smash Bros and 3D World should be enough to sell anyone.

You are assuming the userbase is static.

And I don't get the 'loves to create demand' part at all, since you don't quite have any grounds to make such a statement.

Thinking of pre-ordering it next month, hopefully I won't have to resort to pre-ordering the game at GameStop.

Mario Kart is a system seller so it's not exactly surprising. The question at hand is whether the game will help Nintendo regain momentum and hold second place against Xbox One.

Maybe, but the game doesn't come out until May and hasn't gone gold yet. I can't recall a retailer running out of preorders for a game in the past. This is more weird than anything else.

Good for Wii U owners. I think it's possible i might have to hunt down and buy double dash and then never buy another mario kart game ever again. I truly don't feel there's any need for another one after owning one.

Game needs to be bundled with the Wii U at a sweet spot price, and they will sell I tell ya.

Lies.

Amazon has had issues with Nintendo hardware (specfically, the 3DS line) because of hardware faults in the system that caused mass returns, which Nintendo refused to honor, leading to Amazon refusing to sell Nintendo hardware directly/.

There has been absolutely no issues on Amazon's side with selling Nintendo software at all, in fact, Amazon has gotten some exclusive promotions pre-release that have been amazing.

These attempts to downplay what looks like a successful Wii U game are amazingly hilarious.

Yes, after all every single Mario Kart game is the exact same.

No, wait. No it isn't.

If Nintendo is smart, they will have a $250 Mario Kart 8 Wii U bundle.

I contacted them through chat and they simply said that they have stopped pre-orders because they don't have a price or release date from Nintendo yet.

Sold out? Oh brother.

Screenshots please, or any kind of proof that this happened.

Incidentally, I find it highly amusing that you would contact them about pre-orders for a game that you have no interest in, for a console you do not own and have no intention of owning, from a company you have no love for. A lot of time on your hands?

Thankfully, the Wii U has enough good games to justify a purchase, if not as a main, primary console, then as a secondary, supplemental system at least =)

yeah if you want it as a secondary console and you have $$ to spare , yeah why not. But if you think about it , keep your 300$ to buy something else , a Vita or 3DS or more games for your primary console and play Wii Us best games ( which wont be more than 3-4 till 2015/2016 ) by giving 80$ max for a week rent each. That what ill do with Zelda :P No money to spare here

Haha, of course, if you don't have the money to spend, then yes, buying a 'secondary console' can seem superfluous. If you do, it's a great purchase, it gets games you can't get anywhere else, and those games are almost always awesome :)

What expectations do you have of the new Zelda game?

Well Zelda is Zelda. Im always having high expectations since its a unique game , the best imo franchise Nintendo ever released for various reasons. The only thing im a bit concerned is the motion controls. I dont want to play Wii U Zelda like Wiis. I never liked those motion controls for Zelda game.

Other than that i think Nintendo will push next Zelda to another level , specially now that they are desperate to push Wii U sales. Because of that theres a high possibility imo to see the best Zelda we have ever seen. Thats what i think. So expectations personally , up to the skies and beyond. I hope it will deliver.

Lol yes dude, and I would be so pumped if they made it look like that E3 tech demo that they had.

I don't think they will have motion controls for this Zelda, I think Aonuma ultimately said that that was a one and done deal, and that they were looking at making a more 'hardcore' Zelda with this one.

Should be cool.

@charizard1605: It'll certainly move quite a few, but it's not going to make the Wii U explode. I'm not sure anything is going to at this point. But that doesn't mean it can't gradually build up a respectable number of units. As I said in a different post, though, I love it when Nintendo struggles because they have to try a lot harder to win over consumers, and that means I get more games.

I hope the Wii U never catches on like the Wii did, because when the Wii was the hottest item in the world, Nintendo did absolutely nothing to bring in more consumers. I don't want another 07-09, with New Super Mario Bros and a bunch of nothing again.

Wel Mario Kart Wii did sell 34 million...

It can only help Wii U's sales.

It will though ... a rent of 20$ will do the trick instead of giving away 300++ for 1 game or 2...

Was that rumor about them wanting to make a bigger Zelda than Skyrim true?

This is hard to say, truthfully. However, seeing how successful Nintendo was in changing traditional Zelda formula in A Link Between Worlds, I would definitely expect this kind of structure to be put into the next console Zelda on a more grand scale.

Nintendo would have to be stupid to not capitalize on this.

It isn't sold out.

I contacted them through chat and they simply said that they have stopped pre-orders because they don't have a price or release date from Nintendo yet.

Sold out? Oh brother.

What in the hell do you care, Gargus? You were NEVER going to buy the damn game.
