The fact is, you can deconstruct any game to the point where it would only rate an 8-9 (at best) on GS. ME2 has lousy level design, the main-plot is just a set-up for ME3, and it lacks the party interactivity of Dragon Age. Dragon Age's main-plot is painfully generic, it's about 20 hours too long and the game has balance issues. Halo's story tries too hard and every title has (at least) one terrible level. Half Life 2's vehicle sections are awful and the gameplay is tends to be on the dated side. Uncharted 2 is a jack-of-all-trades, master of none. OoT had the ****ing Water Temple.

Because gaming is such a rapidly-evolving medium the only reasonable way to look at a game is as an overall experience, and by that measure you would be hard-pressed to call ME2 overrated.

Me and Liquid have come to the theory that Bungie signs a contract to make sure they do atleast one level that redefines the word "garbage" when they make Halo games. Although ODSTs worst level(IMO) Data Hive, isn't even that bad. It's not Library, Cortana, Library 2, bad.

ME2 is far from over rated. I don't like the changes to the combat, but almost everything else was improved a great deal.

But that's only because ODST isn't a full game. You bet your ass they would have topped Cortana if they had another 6-12 months of development time.

No way, Cortana is like legendary awful. It's an entire level that you can show every game developer and say "This is how you make the worst level of all TIME!". No way can Bungie Top that, Pfft nothing in Reach will be Cortana bad, or even within shouting distance. You can write that down, quote me. I'll change my sig to an adobe made sig that says "PBSnipes is a sexy BEAST!" with the Canadian flag as my avatar for a month if there is a level that bad In Halo Reach.

No,ME2 is not overrated,although I feel it´s not Bioware´s best work.

BG2 is still their masterpiece(and it will remain as such forever,at least in my eyes),followed by KOTOR and Dragon Age.

Eh, I feel like they still haven't met the level of terribleness that was the Library. I would take constant brain assaults from Cortana/big flood thing(I'm tired) over Guilty Spark's incessant rambling any day.

BG2 yes...but it tops kOTOR and Dragon Age while good, is one of Bioware's worst.

I feel that Bioware´s worst work is Neverwinter Nigths(a game I only used for user made content and a few scripts made by myself),Jade Empire(a good but superstreamlined and short game) and Mass Effect(a good game but pretty far from what I expected from Bioware).

KOTOR to me surpasses ME2 in story, characters, side quests and pacing. It has a genious plot twist that ME2 doe not possess. But that´s just me.

To be blunt,I actually enjoyed KOTOR 2 a lot more than ME2.

As for Dragon Age,I understand what you´re trying to say,but I love the game just because of what it is,a return to the old RPG style(sort of)that I love so damn much, and it stands tall on my personal preferences just because of that(although the game itself has many merits of is own other than just plain nostalgia,I reckon).

I agree, Neverwinter Nights is their worst.....while Jade Empire may not have th ebest gameplay, its got an excellent story and its more meaningful that KOTOR. ME2 has far superior characters than KOTOR, in fact, I think its hands down, the best cast in an RPG since Final Fantasy VI. They are all flawed characters that each have their quirks and the loyalty quests are some of Biowares best work. The plot twist is overrated...not every story needs them. The Mass Effect series has some, but its nothing forced. Dragon Age's problem is the graphics and the extremely generic main plot. Its so blantantly cliched its not even funny. While the Mass Effect games have cliched elements, the main plots really aren't.

Oh please those zappy bug things were far worse than anything the libraryr had. Atleast the flood in Halo 1 were just BORING. In Halo 3? those zappy bug things were the epitome of annoying. Then the repetition of the level was just as bad, and looked funky. It was torture

the way i see it, ME2 is more refinded ME1, it's more of 3rd person shooter than an RPG. It looks great ......... overall not intrested and it didn't deserve a 96% on meta just like U2, both games are more of the same with refined gfx .

Hmmm,I don´t feel that KOTOR´s plot twist is overrated, quite the contrary actually.

It gave a whole new meaning to your character and changed the way you were percieved by your party and the way some would react to you throughout the universe.

It also had an impact to the players themselves, giving them a dirty sensation of power that you don´t get in other games, especially the ones that try to portrait you as a badass killer or a powerfull "supersoldier" from the beggining,if you know what I mean.

As for Dragon Age,the graphics are the least of my concerns, they could be at the same level of KOTOR(heck, they could have used the infinity engine and I would love it as well) and I wouldn´t care.

The plot is generic indeed,it has some strong(ok,very strong) similarities with the work of Tolkien, but the lore is distinct enough to have praise of it´s own.

ME suffers from a similar problem,an excessive collage to the 60´s and 70´s sci fi movies and sci fi literature(I can find so many similarities with Neal Asher´s books, mainly Gridlinked,Prador Moon and Line War,but since the work of Asher is not as well know as Tolkien,I guess that´s ok,isn´t it? ;) ) but, like DA,it has unique features of it´s own to feel original.

The main deciding factor to me is the gameplay,DA(PC)has a style of tactical combat that I trully enjoy, and finishing this game in the hard gave me a sense of acomplishment that I couldn´t find in ME/ME2 gameplay.

The shooting is of high quality, but the game seems to have too much focus in it rather than the story and character progression, two of the main features of a good RPG(among others,of course).

Not that ME2 is bad, quite the contrary,it´s just not as good as an RPG as I hoped,I guess.

3 things I didn't like about ME2:

- Your Powers share the same recharge time.

- Ammo

- Tali's back

Other than that it was better than ME1 and fully deserves its review scores.

It aint overrated, but people sure overrate it. It got scores a game like this deserves, I disagree with a couple things you said but agree with others, the side mission in this game seem to have 0 impact or any noticeable effect like FO3 or something.

1. It took me 28 hours to finish the game, by modern standards thats a pretty long game.

2. Mass effect 2 is a shooter with RPG elements not the other way round so of course its not going to have tonnes of powers.

3. It sounds like you didnt play much of the game considering you mentioned the first two sidemissions in the game.

4. If you did play more of the game then you didnt do any of the missions for your team, because they're about as long as fallouts side missions and also provide back story to the characters.

also MGS4 GTA 4 and MW2 are waaaaaaaay more overhyped than Mass effect 2.

I loved the first mass effect so much and I was hoping they would imrpove the sequel..granted they did that in some ways but major gripe with th egame is that as an rpg this game is nothing but a fraud!!!!!! Fallout 3 was more of an rpg than mass effect 2. The side quests just weren't interesting at all. I don't know who wrote the story but that person shouldn't be allowed back near the studio for the 3rd game. It was horrible.

They couldnt really come up with more varied and interesting powers really? They have a freaking whole galaxy to work with here and not constrained by the limitations of a known universe like they were with KOTOR. I was let down by this game. I enjoyed it but was still let down.

I mean I travel to other planets and for some reason I never get the feeling of being in a distant far away planet. And the path is very linear in most of the planets. What the hell was even the use of shipping on 2 disks? That was a waste of resources.

Anyway these are just my views on it and won't be shared by anyone. If you feel the same way I did though then at least I know I wasn't the only one let down.

While the story wasn't as god as the first one it was good. Sure it wasn't as compelling as ME1 but it was good. It served as as filler (which of course it a part 2 of a trilogy). ME2 story was a good set up for what we're in store for ME3. BTW ME1,ME2 shares the same writers.

Story wasn't as bad as you make it seem. For a filler story setting up the third title it did a good job. (except for the human you know what. I'll admit that was pretty lame)

He was really annoying, glad he got kicked out =D Anyway I think ME2 definitely deserved the praise it got. IMO it's the best game I've ever played. And about the story, the first ME had the best story in a video game ever. However, ME2 had a great story too, it was mainly focused on the characters. Even though the first ME had better story that its sequel, I wouldn't have ME2 any other way, I finished it twice so far, and I'm planning to beat it for the 3rd time.

I gotta agree with your point about the side-quests. For such a big title, Bioware was pretty cheap for only having two sidequests (get brandy, get ingredients). After that the game is pretty much downhill the rest of the way and the Joker mission was soooo predictable; I saw that one coming a mile away. I don't think I can handle console gaming anymore so it is off to dust off my trusty Commodore 64 and plow through some riveting text based adventures.FastEddie2121

Only 2 sidequests? Really?! I could've sworn there were more than just two! Hmmm, maybe my copy is just busted or I actually explored the universe...

I would give it a 8.5/10 and this was my most hyped game of 2010. It was faaaaaar less impressive than ME1 for its times... good game with BAAAAAAAD engine = okay game but nothing special.

I say both ME are among the most overrated turds in the industry, right there with MW2, etc.

The planet surveying is the worst part of the game by far.. For the most part it's a requirement.

I feel sorry for the people who thinks its overated they missed out

sure the story wasnt as good as the 1st neither was there anything as iconic running up the side of the citadel with sovereign attached to it or listening to Vigil but everything else was better, awesome game

because you know better then the critics right? you know when a game is over rated when it scores a 10 on GS but gets a failure score of a 93 on metacritic....MGS4

While I have yet to play Mass Effect 2 (damn you bills!), I can honestly say that Batman: Arkham Asylum takes the gold medal for "Most Overrated Game this Gen".

yep, to call the game bad simply because it didn't have a few moments exactly the same as that is itself an overrated complaint when you look at what makes a great bioware game and what makes a great sequel

No it doesn't. Both the GS and metacritic scores prove that MGS4 is a superb game critically.

superb game but it does have some big flaws that makes it deserve the score it got from metacritic and not a 10...
