[QUOTE="Arach666"][QUOTE="texasgoldrush"] BG2 yes...but it tops kOTOR and Dragon Age while good, is one of Bioware's worst.texasgoldrush
I feel that Bioware´s worst work is Neverwinter Nigths(a game I only used for user made content and a few scripts made by myself),Jade Empire(a good but superstreamlined and short game) and Mass Effect(a good game but pretty far from what I expected from Bioware).KOTOR to me surpasses ME2 in story, characters, side quests and pacing. It has a genious plot twist that ME2 doe not possess. But that´s just me.
To be blunt,I actually enjoyed KOTOR 2 a lot more than ME2.
As for Dragon Age,I understand what you´re trying to say,but I love the game just because of what it is,a return to the old RPG style(sort of)that I love so damn much, and it stands tall on my personal preferences just because of that(although the game itself has many merits of is own other than just plain nostalgia,I reckon).
I agree, Neverwinter Nights is their worst.....while Jade Empire may not have th ebest gameplay, its got an excellent story and its more meaningful that KOTOR. ME2 has far superior characters than KOTOR, in fact, I think its hands down, the best cast in an RPG since Final Fantasy VI. They are all flawed characters that each have their quirks and the loyalty quests are some of Biowares best work. The plot twist is overrated...not every story needs them. The Mass Effect series has some, but its nothing forced. Dragon Age's problem is the graphics and the extremely generic main plot. Its so blantantly cliched its not even funny. While the Mass Effect games have cliched elements, the main plots really aren't. Hmmm,I don´t feel that KOTOR´s plot twist is overrated, quite the contrary actually. It gave a whole new meaning to your character and changed the way you were percieved by your party and the way some would react to you throughout the universe.
It also had an impact to the players themselves, giving them a dirty sensation of power that you don´t get in other games, especially the ones that try to portrait you as a badass killer or a powerfull "supersoldier" from the beggining,if you know what I mean.
As for Dragon Age,the graphics are the least of my concerns, they could be at the same level of KOTOR(heck, they could have used the infinity engine and I would love it as well) and I wouldn´t care.
The plot is generic indeed,it has some strong(ok,very strong) similarities with the work of Tolkien, but the lore is distinct enough to have praise of it´s own.
ME suffers from a similar problem,an excessive collage to the 60´s and 70´s sci fi movies and sci fi literature(I can find so many similarities with Neal Asher´s books, mainly Gridlinked,Prador Moon and Line War,but since the work of Asher is not as well know as Tolkien,I guess that´s ok,isn´t it? ;) ) but, like DA,it has unique features of it´s own to feel original.
The main deciding factor to me is the gameplay,DA(PC)has a style of tactical combat that I trully enjoy, and finishing this game in the hard gave me a sense of acomplishment that I couldn´t find in ME/ME2 gameplay.
The shooting is of high quality, but the game seems to have too much focus in it rather than the story and character progression, two of the main features of a good RPG(among others,of course).
Not that ME2 is bad, quite the contrary,it´s just not as good as an RPG as I hoped,I guess.
