yeah this guy is such a fakeboy i cant believe people are taking this seriously. i mean his name is codnut he has 20 posts and is level 3, and he disses the very things that make rpgs great. and we are supposed to take him seriously? im sure you went out and bought the strategy guide and game for DAO when you hated biowares previous rpgs. that makes a lot of sense. go back to playing cod. leave the rpgs alone

AdobeArtist

maybe its not that it is a lot of dialogue, more so that it is just uninteresting, boring dialogue

atleast thats how it is for me with a lot of wrpgs, including bioware

You gotta be kidding me. Bioware crafts some of the most natural dialog in gaming. The characters come across as genuine and believable people. Every member in your party (from KOTOR, to Mass Effect, to DAO) feels as though they had a life before you encountered them, and didn't simply spring into existence on the map simply for the benefit of aiding your quest. With Bioware games, the NPCs are people you can actually get to know, and form a connection with.

This fella speaks the truth.

In 2003, if you had asked me who my best friend was, i would have honestly told you HK47. Sad isn't it? But true. That guybot is a legend.

I almost cried when Morrigan left me :( And im normally one of the first people to call such things "gay"

psn8214

Yeah, I know. But some people don't like to read. They'd rather cutscenes play out for them. Whatever. I think it's one of the more interesting Sci-fi stories in the genre. I love Sci-fi, they don't do enough good Sci-fi RPGs. I almost cried when I heard Todd Howard of Bethesda say that they were going to do a Star Trek RPG like Fallout and Oblivion. They made Fallout 3 instead, so I really can't complai....... Waitaminute of course I can.

Look, i like any kind of RPG's as much as the next guy, but c'mon we all know as talented as Bioware might be at making games, they just have an unfortunate habit of using too much dialogue in there games, to the point that you actually doze off when waiting for a talk scene to end.

Why can't they incorporate more cutscenes to tell there stories, i'm being serious i really loved the look of the first Mass Effect, but when watching my brother in law play through it, before deciding to buy it or not, there was so much friggin' dialogue i literally fell asleep.

Then Dragon Age was coming out and i was really excited about it, so much so that i didn't even wait for reviews, i ran out bought the game and the hardcover strategy guide, but then of course the inevitable happened, all the long winded dialogue of Bioware developers kicked in and i was asleep in no time, now i traded Dragon Age and i'm stuck with a $30 strategy guide.

C'mon Bioware dev's use some more cutscenes to get your story across and minimize the dialogue, that's my opinion anyway.

In HK's wake, who isn't a weak meatbag?

Someone should demand more KOTOR like RPG's from Bioware. They have thousands of years worth of history to play with. Instead we get an MMO, which will probably be amazing, but it's not what i wanted

Chuck prays to HK-47 everynight before bed. I've seen it.

As for T3-M4. he had the element of suprise on his side when he tackled Hk aboard the Ebon Hawk, HK-47 had it all figured out. He's like Columbo + MacGyver

Try playing planescape if you think ME2 has alot of dialogue. Or the old school point and click adventures awdxfv
Oh man PlaneScape has tons of lines but that what made the game so great. The story is one of the best stories in a game. As for Mass Effect I like how the game presents it's story it's more interactive but in a cinematic sense like HalfLife 1,2, System Shock, Dead Space, BioShock and tons of WRPG's.

Hmn sounds like you need a dose of Fallout 1/2... Dont wanna listen to long and boring dialogues? No prob, just put all that int points into strenght and blast their heads off... :D
Thats what made imo Fallout 1/2 the ultimate RPG ever made. You wanna play it guns galore **** Go ahead... Not the violent type? Talk your way trough! :D

I like the dialogue system Bioware use, KOTOR is one of my all time favourite games, as much for the story and dialogue as anything else. The trouble with Mass Effect is that the developers spent so long on the complex dialogue that they forgot to put any actual gameplay into their game. There were 4 'dungeon' type areas, which accounted for around 4 hours of gameplay give or take. The rest of the game was dialogue and terrible, randomly generated filler side-quests. 4 hours of gameplay in an RPG is laughable, it made Heavenly Sword look like an epic. If they have fixed that for the sequel and provide a LOT more playable content ME2 could be a great game, but I'm not interested in getting another interactive book.

I love the dialogue, it's very well-written and intriguing. There's a reason why you can skip dialogue and there are faster options through it. You just have a terrible and very short attention span. Clearly you don't like any kind of RPG as much as the next guy, there is a majority that do the Bioware route.

It's a videogame. I would rather it be the Bioware way, then spamming cutscene, after cutscene after cutscene. What Bioware really needs to do is make sure the RPG mechanics are much better, and that the shooting doesn't suck. It's an Action/RPG Bioware. Get both parts right. jg4xchamp

that the shooting doesn't suck. :|

Mass Effect's dialog is where it shines the most. Sure, each character may respond to you as if you have a freaking documentary crew with you, but at least they actually seem like real people. The combat on the other hand...Not so much.

My favorite characters from ME1 were Joker and Wrex. Joker, for his disabilities not keeping him from accomplishing his goals, and Wrex, for being plain awesome. I loved that Krogan's one-liners.

I will take interactive, plot moving dialogue sequences over "read me a story" cutscenes any day of the week. I would be incredibly disappointed if Bioware made ME2 without it being dialogue heavy.

Yeah, i think the best way to tell a story is throught cutscenes. I hate the way other games like Bioshock and WRPG tell their story. In bioshock you have these stupid diaries, who bothers to read that? And in WRPG is the boring dialogues, like Bethesda games, where you are looking at the guys face talking with no facial animations, going throught a bunch of dialogues.

For me, a lot of dialog slows the game down way too much, sort of like a good movie that's really slow, sure I can respect that they are trying to make the story deeper and more interactive, but damn, I'd rather be playing the game than sitting, and shifting through dialog options (which I always go for the one that involves offing people asap).

I love dialogue snooze fests... more games should strive to have the snooze inducing dialogue of ME1 (since i enjoyed it A LOT more than the gameplay). It was so good that i forgave the game for its mediocre gameplay. Yes it was cliched sci-fi fare with themes stripped from old star trek but it was high caliber stuff nonetheless.

Dialogue in games is either done remarkably good, or teribbly bad, Bioware has always had a touch for the former.

Can't wait for Mass effect 2.

Stopped reading when you said you bought the game and a strategy guide for it. I can't take the word of a casual gamer seriously :P

Just kidding... kinda. I don't think you're casual but the strategy guide thing does make me ignore what you have to say. I'd think you'd like all the breaks so that you can flip through your book and let it tell you how to play the game.
