I would say a pretty average game --- average in all aspects besides graphicsnaval
It nails the cinematic feel extremely well - much better than most other RPG's of this style. It's sort of like playing a movie, with less linearity than that phrase implies. I thought it was crazy good on the PC. On the 360 it was pretty good, but a lot of the stuff was frustrating (Mako driving, UI, load times/elevators!)

Great game. Engaging story, customizable abilities, beautiful art direction although most planets are barren. Battle menu felt off when I played on the 360 butthe revitalise menu for the PCmade the battle way better. Yep, got it for the360 and PC and with mass effect 2 allowing to continuewith your old data, mass effect is quite worth getting.
It is. The technical issues are just dreadful on the 360 (even when installed) but it's one of the best RPG's.Floppy_Jim
I played installed, I just thought the framerate was a bit random, for no reason it would have bad framerates, not much pop in installed. I can overlook them because the rest of the game was epic. If they fix this for ME2, then we have a winner.

That's really the only problem the game has now I've installed it, I was exaggerating a little. They need to have less empty, repetitive planets for the sequel too.
Cookigaki thought it was an alright game, Cookigaki thought the AI partners were stupid, sometimes they don't take cover, Cookigaki would get upset over that.
The game is good but INSANELY OVERRATED. The Witcher is a much better RPG and to me had a better combat system and was more cinematic.
Witcher is on consoles? Weird.... This isn't a specific console discussion so what does that have to do with anything? It is like saying how Halo or Resistance is overrated and Crysis is way better. It just does not apply to the majority of people who play mass effect so I found the comment a little out of no where. Just my thoughts. :)
The combat system sucks if your a soldier, because all you do is shoot with no other abilities.. But for characters like the Vanguard, which you have a wide array of things.. It is quite fun.. The item system sucked though I hope they fix that in the sequel because I don't get much forfillment when I upgrade my armor from scorpion V to Scorpion VI.. The side quests need to be rethought as well.. Other than that it was defintiely a rememberable game.

Is it good? I watched that opening cinematic, which was insanely awesome. What's the combat system like because I wanted to love ME (love sci fi and bioware) but it just bored me sooo much. The combat is very good but the role-playing part (which is basically 45% of the game) is very average and somewhat boring at times.

Just started playing it yesterday. It looks good and the story is somewhat captivating. I didn't really get pulled into it though but it might just be because I just started the game. I'll probably play more later but for now I'm back on orange box, SF4, BB, and maybe replay CoJ;BiB.

The story is a bit hard to get into because it does not have much depth to it.
I did like it, even though I at the same time consider it to be one of BioWare's weakest games ever. There were simply too many wrongs with it, on the technical side as well as gameplay. The universe that BioWare have created with this game, however, is immense!
