NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! Publishers and devs need to realize that not every game needs multiplayer. We have games like Halo, CoD, Battlefield etc for our multiplayer needs. So why do we need a bunch of games with a singleplayer focus with multiplayer?

That doesn't state that there is multiplayer, just that there could be...and lets hope it stays that way.

I wonder who will be crafting the multi? Part of me hopes its BioWare, its their series, they should be able to create their games in their entirety, but at the same time, I don't think they have a whole lot of competetive multiplayer experience (though I have faith that they would do a fine job). Also, I'd prefer BioWare just continue to focus on the SP.

Some sort of Co-Op would be awesome but versus multiplayer is a **** no. Developers stop putting in generic multiplayer just to have that as a selling point.

Co-Op is far far worse to me. Please keep people I don't want to play with out of my Story. I'd much rather it be versus.

In almost any other game I'd say sure, what can it hurt but even co-op scares me with this franchise - yikes, seems to me they are getting even further away from Mass Effect 1 and what made it so special.

yes co-op could work better, but Bioware know they have a huge weight of expectation for the third in the trilogy, they will be super conscious due to the backlash from the Uber-fans when they stripped ME2 of all the loot and and RPG bells and whistles.

I'm GLAD that they stripped all that useless stuff out. I think they should improve upon ME2 as it is, they don't need to glance back at ME1.

Oh well. There goes IP #2 that I fell in love with for the first iteration, was ruined with the second, and is now being turned into a cash cow for the third (and beyond?). Why not just call it Gears Effect 3 and be done with it?

I hope a different team will be handling the multiplayer. I just want BioWare to focus on properly concluding the trilogy.

IF they develop it like they did Medal of Honor - with separate teams for SP and MP - I have not problem with it, just more Mass Effect for your money.

If, however, they direct manpower and finances away from the Singleplayer towards the Multiplayer... I might have a problem with that. The ME games do not need multiplayer, the games have developed a fan base for SP only games and honestly I don't see why they shouldn't stay that way. Why not put out a SP only ME 3 then work on a multiplayer title within the universe? seems like a better way to go.

i know right mass effect is meant to be a sp experience where you visit star systems with your crew and explore vast areas (ME1 anyway) its meant to be about adventure and an epic story (to me anyway) not bloody mp we have enough of that stuff all ready

Gotta love IGN linking their "What We Want In Mass Effect 3" wishlist at the bottom of the page. Guess what the first thing is on "What We Don't Want?" MULTIPLAYER. Jesus Christ Bioware, what the hell are you thinking?

i was too TBH, i didn't like all the loot and spending 10 mins to convert multiple items to omni gel etc. was fixed in PC version of course. i do think Mass Effect 1 was better than 2 though, perhaps because everything was new.

I don't understand how that stuff was fixed in the PC version, its easier to navigate, bu still a pain in the ass.

This is turning into Uncharted 2 all over again.

"But but but multiplayer....", whaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!

"Why they have to do that. It will ruin the single player."

Then upon release: "This is awesome!!!"

Its not even that Im worried about it being bad. Itll probably be serviceable. The thing is, why is it needed? Whats the point of putting multiplayer in this game? Do they really think that Mass Effect multiplayer will be the next Black Ops or Reach? The MP shooter scene is crowded enough as it is, and maybe 5-10% (and thats being generous) of Mass Effect fans have any desire to have MP tacked on to the finale of arguably the best new IP this gen.

Bottom line: Whats the point?

Yeah local co-op could be cool, but online multi-player nooooo. It would just ruin the whole feel with Mass Effect.

Well.. It doesnt have to be co-op (please, for the love of god, no co-op in my beloved Mass Effect)
It could be something totally seperate from single player. Cross your fingers and hope that its not even slightly associated with the single player story.
Maybe you can take part in the first contact war, or maybe as a regular soldier in battles against whomever happens to be Mass Effect 3's antagonists.

I agree, if this really is the final Mass Effect as Bioware says I think most of us want the strongest, longest, most story driven single-player as possible. However, once again a local-co-op add on would be tolerable even fun, but online multi-player is just a bad idea that we don't need.

True, Online Multiplayer would ruin the feel, but I dont think you understand how much worse Co-op is in a game that is heavily story driven and that changes based on decisions that you make.

Imagine if they scrapped some of the games story telling elements for run and gun accessibility?

That is a **** no.

the problem with having multiplayer in this game is that it is not needed at all (bioware never ever does mp) and as well as that if bioware is deving the mp as well as the sp it will take dev time resources out of the sp game for a game mode that isnt needed

I agree. I want nothing more than for the game to stay exclusively single player, but I also feel that if there MUST be multiplayer of some sort, I would rather it be deathmatch and capture the flag rather than being a simplification of the "campaign" to be accessible to multiplayer.

It's a rumour. Personally some sort of imaginative online integration with the singleplayer like Demon's Souls could be very interesting.... Than the usual tacked on 'look it's the same old thing in our universe' as almost every game that adds multiplayer does..

BioWare has always caved to complaints really easily. I don't doubt there is a large group of people on the BioWare forums begging for MP in ME3... which is why its coming. Though, I also do agree, EA most likely has a large influence over what ends up in the final product... they are the owners of BioWare.

This would be pretty tough to do with a story driven SP game. (and something, to be honest, that would be too ambitious for 1.5-2 yr development) And knowing EA, if anything it would be tacked on Team Deathmatch.

I realize many people seem to dislike the fact that many single player focused games are getting multi-player features (Assassin's Creed, Dead Space, BioShock), but why be so quick to judge? Multiplayer adds much more extra life to a game anyways, and by the way, it happens to be fun playing games with friends.

I don't know whether BioWare will truly implement a multiplayer feature in the Mass Effect series, but even if they did, it's not like all focus on the single player is lost.

There are to many hasty generalizations that suggest multiplayer ruins the developers focus on singleplayer which is not the case at all. All I wanna say is at least wait until you've actually played both the single AND multiplayer aspects of the game and then make your final call about which has recieved more T.L.C.

its a damn shame that the best sp game dev for the last decade has been swallowed up by a company that thinks sp is dead and everything is now mp :( the joy i had with kotor, bg1+2, even jade empire has been great i just hate to see this kind of crap happening

Have you played Mass Effect? The dialogue portions alone would be massacred. Imagine a multiplayer game with a dialogue wheel, and many conversations throughout the game that lasted several minutes and in which only one player could choose reactions while the other sat idly by.

Unless of course you grew up in an age where playing by yourself was the only option... or playing in the same room as your real-life friends.

I've never understood the appeal of playing online. Sure, I played Call of Duty and Day of Defeat online... but was as rewarded playing that as I would have been playing with smart bots. There is nothing to connect me to the other players. But when playing in the same room, I know who they are, and can have fun with them outside the game... which is the point of group socializing. When I play games, I prefer to play games alone. Which is why this focus on putting MP in everything has me very disheartened with the modern gaming industry.

I don't care if putting MP into a game "adds" something for you. I see it merely as sprinkles on the icing on the cake. I don't really like them, but do see that some people do like them, but they aren't necessary to make a good cake. In a SP-driven game like ME, MP is the absolute last thing it needs.

What's next? Mass Effect turns into an FPS? Maybe this is a sign I should stop picking favourite franchises, because they all seem to have terrible things occur. Rock Band gets dropped from Viacom, Half Life: Episode 3 is just never made, Kingdom Hearts is.... **** ed, and now Mass Effect is selling out. Curse you gaming gods, curse you!
