Mass Effect is irrelevant compared to Biowares MMO plans.

EA wants Biowares MMO. this isn't about ME or it's multiplat status(wich is inevitible) Do people have to play RE to enjoy RE4? for me i'm glad to see EA really wants the MMO Bioware makes. me i'm glad a AAA developer like Bioware is making a MMO , really has anything toped WOW? nope i'm dying to try other types of MMO's and I'm content that Bioware and EA will be bringing a MMO out that hopefully will be Cross Platform online. would be cool to have a great MMO that all consoles(except wii sorry no Harddrive) can enjoy and play together.

So thats what the topics about Biowars future MMO anyone else Anticipating it?

i'm tired of midearth MMO's so hopefully Bioware will put a Sci Fi MMO together

I'd LOVE a MMO made by Bio but I hope and pray EA don't screw them up to fast. Let them make a few more awesome games at least EA before you butcher them please!

Well, as for your argument "Do people have to plat RE to enjoy RE4?" That may be the case for RE, but if you're applying that to ME, I don't think it'll work. ME is, or was, supposed to be a trilogy, so missing the first game would take away from the following games; you could probably play the next games without the first and enjoy it, maybe, but it would be kind of pointless to do so.

As for the MMO. I can't say I'm anticipating it, but I am interested in it. If Bioware is allowed to still be Bioware, then something good could come of this game. So I am waiting to see what happens.

um hello RE thru 4 all interwine story wise........ or have you not played them all? fact is it won't matter in the long run cause EA can put make Masseffect 2 for PS3 and add ME 1 in the package as one whole play thru. one things for sure the bleray disc can hold it all.

agreed with deathtrap90 ^

MMOs arent fun they are just addicting...Who really thinks its fun to run an instance for a couple of months only to gear up to get more gear to gear up to get even more gear etc (noticing a trend yet?giving gamers impossible goals keeps them playingxP )

they can be pretty addictive but you don't have to play it if there not for you ok not everyone likes FPS. and you never know they can maybe make it less taxing as WOW and other MMO's(like a Action RPG MMO) One thing pissed me fof about wow is how slow they make you attack if it was more "real time" you can kill and grind without being bored.

/Salvates i think they do need to start making these MMO's more action oriented lower the cooldowns and maybe instant action when you press the buttons instead of pressing the button and waiting 2.3 seconds to swing lol it can take 5 minutes killing 1 enemy in WOW lol a Baldurs gate/mmo hybrid would be awsome.

I liked the idea that WAR was putting forward (PVP based) but it looks to me like it is more or less the same old kill 20 bears grind

Edit: Oh Lineage 2 + Lineage 1, now I get it.

That is why I said "may be the case" because I haven't played RE.

And I would be very pleased if EA put both games on a blu-ray disc.

I think, if EA doesn't screw up Bioware at all, this deal could be very helpful for the Ps3.

I still think it can be turn-based, but more with the D & D rules from the original games. But make it a sort of turn-based/real-time hybrid, almost like FF's ATB system. Either way, an MMO where I can tear up the Sword Coast and go on adventures with Minsc & Boo would be a great game indeed. And I would be interested to see Bioware's take on the MMO. I got a feeling that this game would be the one to finally dethrone WoW and inject some originality back in the MMO genre

FTR Lineage and Tabula Rasa really just hasn't been getting very good previews from a lot of people. :/

Danm_999

Guild Wars doesn't, although its certainly close. WoW has the largest active subscriber base by a green country mile, but Lineage & Lineage II combined have done 43 million in sales and Lineage II isn't anywhere near as successful as Lineage...

Which one is it? Lineage? UO?

lordxymor

Yep Lineage.

As a past MMO player, I can hardly see how this can be considered a certainty.. The entire MMO market is inflated, I have seen more MMO releases or announcements in the past year then almost any other genre.. We certainly do not need another MMO, inless Bioware proves to be a solid maker of a MMo, this is just another standard run of the mill mmo in my eyes.

The problem with the genre; due to the monthly costs, very large amounts of time required and dependancy on a large playerbase, there's little room for many MMORPGs. Basically, another MMORPG as successfull as WoW can't really exist right now if WoW does.

Yep the amount of time necessary to dedicate to MMOs, especially if theres a paid subscription limits the number of entrants in the market that can actually be successful and as it the genre is overcrowded with a ton of tiny and unsuccessful games.

i agree because other than the great Minds at Blizzard no other Talented team has tryed to make a good MMO, sure there other good MMO's but how many are made by a company like Bioware and Blizzard? only WOW so i would like to see there take on it cause they saw what wow did and they can add new fresh ideas from seeing what WOW did good, it's not that i think Bioware is betetr than Blizzard cause i think Blizzard is obviously better. but i do see a benieft from coming out after it and learning from it. I do think MMo need to have faster combat(maybe make daggers in 0.25-1 sec speeds and swords with 1 thru 2 sec speeds and 2 handers with 3 or 4. thats just like 1 sec faster than wows weapons. but truthfully i think Biowars MMO will be Gun/Magic based , with a slight chance of melee(haha funny)

read my post. WOW isn;t on consoles Bioware can sweep up if they release a multiplatform Cross platform MMO. one that console and PC owners can both enjoy. Rememeber this is EA and they have the resources to help with a project like this and also EA has enough Money to possible make it free to play online too.

No monthly fees helps, but it still doesn't solve the problem of time. Most people in the US are either playing WoW or Guild Wars with some other games like Anarchy Online or LoTR Online taking up others..I'm not sure what they can do to cannibalize those populations, although as always I welcome a new unique entry in the market.

Monthly fees should not be a problem its a bogus excuse.. Put in perspective that the majority of games out there last no where near the amount of a MMO.. $15 equates to 50 cents a day on average.. This is dirt cheap if your putting in hundreds upon hundreds of horus of time, far more then the average $50 to $60 game can give you.. In the end to me the $15 is shirked off either by kids or the stingey (spelling?)

Its really not a bogus argument, theres a ton of people who having already invested $150+ in something would be less likely to switch over to another MMO and any money spent somewhere limits the amount that can be spent in another area..its basic economics. Now monthly fees aren't the end-all-be-all but they are an issue if theres too many games in the market already and people have already invested their time and money in one.

They could make an amazing MMO. I really hope they go for a setting like Mass Effect though. If they go the medieval fantasy route, it will be compared to WoW endlessly, and I don't think even BioWare can topple WoW in that arena. A space-based MMO could be amazing.

I'll tell you what they should do if they want a real place in the market..bring back Ultima Online and update it, theres a considerable fanbase out there that still is wishing for a new UO and more who would probably be curious enough to try it.

FF11 was made in Japan and there not well versed with WRPG and MMO's also the games were not Cross Platform, both had seperate realms and servers. and Console game with Monthly fee already spells doom. i think if EA were to make a MMO for PC/PS3 and 360 with Cross platform realms they would need to waive the Console fees and keep the PC fees. or eliminate the fees all together. or they can give you 6 months free for either copy. any casual player would be done with the game after 6 months and after that i'm sure they won't mind paying ever other month when they wanna get back into it. i don't ever think a console MMO with monthly fee would ever work. but i'm Sure EA wants to make a Console MMO.

Well according to Gamespot they have over 800 employees. They probably hired a bunch of new people to do it so it sould effect real game development much. The core RPG teams are still working on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

As a past MMO player, I can hardly see how this can be considered a certainty.. The entire MMO market is inflated, I have seen more MMO releases or announcements in the past year then almost any other genre.. We certainly do not need another MMO, inless Bioware proves to be a solid maker of a MMo, this is just another standard run of the mill mmo in my eyes.sSubZerOo
Maybe on PCs. But on consoles they are new and may be the next big thing.

Oh well, as long as they keep making great singleplayer RPGs, I don't really care

I don't care if its better than sex I'll never pay a subscription for playing a game online. It could work out like Guild Wars though ^.^
