Mass Effect On PS3 Rumor Resurfaces

According to one of Europe's largest video game magazine, Gamereactor, Mass Effect 2 could be coming out on the PS3 six months after the Xbox 360 version ships. Gamereactor indicates that the source was taken from Gamespot just a few days ago before the information was taken down suddenly.

The Mass Effect on the PS3 rumor has resurfaced a number of times in the past, to be shot down by BioWare. However, with EA taking over the Mass Effect franchise, the chances are good that this series will most likely go multiplatform.

Reports also indicate that EA may have spent close to a billion dollars in acquiring BioWare Corp. and Pandemic Studios after paying out to the stockholders and the bonuses to key employees. With Mass Effect selling only two million units on the Xbox 360, it makes sense the publisher will want to look at different avenues to make good on its investment.

However, if this is indeed the case, I am curious as to how EA and BioWare plans on brining the PS3 players up to speed in regards to the story. How will PS3 owners even know what the Reapers are without playing Mass Effect 1?

Mass Effect is definitely a great game with an involving story and arguably has one of the best dialog tree seen to date. This game should definitely be made available to as many people possible, as it really is underappreciated in terms of sales. As always we will update you with any new developments in the story.

Hmm as logical as it sounds since it's EA but I would wait until the official word. But the article did bring up a point that kinda affects the rumor. How are the PS3 players gonna know the backstory to Mass Effect 2? It's like starting Shenmue II when you never played Shenmue. :|

It was a flop on System Wars. Still an awesome game though that shouldn't be missed.

In my opinion Mass Effect is the best single player game this gen.

Better story than mgs4

better music than halo and bioshock

better graphics than any console game.

But I think microsoft will have something to say about this,

Also discussed during EA's BioWare/Pandemic conference call was the fate of the (thus far) Xbox 360-exclusive Mass Effect. While Microsoft is still publishing the first installment of the game (which is due November 20) - now that the previously BioWare-owned IP belongs to EA - Gamasutra notes that it "would conceivably from here out be EA published."

If one examines EA's publishing practices, it isn't difficult to assume that this would also conceivably be a multi-platform title, meaning Microsoft may have just lost one of their biggest exclusives. Will we see a PS3 sequel at parity with the 360? Or perhaps a Wii version: Mass Wiifect ... over a dozen minigames ... in space!

Update: A Microsoft spokesperson tells Joystiq that while the publisher has not "announced specifics regarding sequels" to Mass Effect, it will be "talking to EA and BioWare in the weeks to come." In addition, Microsoft remains "committed to the franchise's long term success."

Update 2: BioWare tells GameDaily that the developer's "focus is pure and simple; it's to deliver the best game possible for our fans with Mass Effect, and that's an Xbox 360 exclusive." Currently, there are no plans to extend the franchise to PS3.

Well thinking about it, JE is almost AAA quality, enjoyed it loads but the story right towards the last few encounters got a little messy
