Though i am sure many of you have your own personal opinion, your own favorite RPG , Mass Effect and Fallout seam to currently be the two most popular Shooter RPGs. Both of these game have their own unique ways of improving the RPG genre... The way i see it Fallout helps you make the game your own personal adventure while Mass Effect is a shooter game that allows you to manipulate story events and how you control the battlefield

Which to you is the better RPG and how can these two games learn from each other to improve themselves

I prefer Mass Effect for a number of reasons. For one, I love how Bioware tells stories and find the story in Mass Effect much more cohesive than in Fallout (I also found the characters more fleshed out in ME than in Fallout). I also greatly prefer the space setting to the now heavily over-used post-apocalyptic setting. That all being said, as an actual RPG game, Fallout is probably a more fitting game for the genre (more stats, weapons and micromanagement to worry about). Mass Effect is the better game in my opinion, but Fallout is arguably the better RPG experience

firstly, i think apocalyptic world are overused because Fallout popularized the idea, and i agree with what you said very much.... Fallout has always felt more like a persoanl story, the story still is delightful not because of the actual story missions but because of how you make your own tale, but Mass Effect hands down shows the best story even if the game isnt as free as Fallout

"Spartans never die, they just go missing". Sorry, I had to do that.

Anyways, it's a tie for me, as they both have their strengths & weaknesses, but they are difinitely amongst my Favorite Games this Gen.

Is this some kind of sick joke?

Fallout and Fallout 2 both brutally obliterate Mass Effect's storyline.

I'm going to go with Mass Effect based upon the story and the dynamic gameplay and expanded universe that it has. It is the one game that makes me regret selling my 360 :(

What does this even mean? Both games are RPG/Shooter hybrids. Both games have stats that are upgraded over the course of the game and in both games you are playing a role. The biggest difference between the two is Shepherd has a voice.

no doubt both games should be played, and i have put the two in one topic post because i find it relevant that they are the kings of shooter RPG, maybe even all RPG but i wont go that far. Deciding which game you feel has the better RPG element does not say that one is actually better than the other, it is merely stating one's personal take on the comparison of the two. If you like something, that does not give you reason not to analyze it or question it, for that is the purpose of free thinking, the ability to question things , both things you hate and love

Dragon Age does pretty well in those regards, personally I put it infront of Mass Effect just a bit. Tho I will say both are excellent games. Its no Baldur's gate, but it the best we going to get in getting something of that nature. Great example of what a rpg should be like, and the direction it should be.

lol, awesome, i havent heard that in a while :P On topic, my vote goes to mass effect, i just had more fun with it, and i enjoyed the story more. Fallout 3 has more to explore though, the planets in mass effect 1 were reskinned deserts lol, while fallout 3's world was a pleasure to explore.

also very true, Dragon Age is a very well polished RPG, which is why is specifically stated Fallout and Mass Effect to be the two best SHOOTER RPGs, since this topic would get complicated if i hadnt lol !

Let me pull up this up for you. - - - http://www.yougamers.com/ http://cyri.systemrequirementslab.com/srtest/ These both have things you can run tests on your game of choice to see if or how well a game will run, if you can run it on recommended or minimal, and what you need if you can't. Very good sides, yougamers is my first choice tho.

I would. Mods add value and longevity to my game. That's why I love Fallout 3 for the PC. I get to create my own content using the GECK -- hell, I've probably spent more time in the GECK then acutally in-game itself. I mean, I've been using the Dragon Age toolset and it just pales in comparison to the GECK.

Ah good ol Wasteland. I remember playing that on the C64 back in the day. It's a shame that game is tangled up in licensing hell with EA. But then again, if it wasn't, we might not have ever gotten Fallout.

As much as I enjoy traversing the Capital Wastelands in Fallout 3, I'd choose Mass Effect any day of the week. Mostly because I find the bionic and engineer abilities to be enjoyable to fool around with, the vast variety of worlds you may visit(although a bit lackluster at times), the futuristic setting.

Of course, this is just a preference. Besides, I've always enjoyed a Bioware game over any Bethesda title. Fallout 3 was the only title from Bethesda that is remotely playable and don't find myself frustrated with stats and leveling such as Oblivion or Morrowind.
