Am i the only one who likes the new Max?kris9031998I don't care that he has changed. The gameplay looks awesome.
[QUOTE="Eddie-Vedder"]See that's some **** Noone ever asked for anything different of Max Payne, everyone I've ever met that played those games LOVED those games for what they were. And noir, crime, hard boiled detective crime, it's a genre, they could have given us something new but kept it in the same genre. This looks like a new IP. This should just be a new IP. I'm still going to play it cause of how much I loved the first 2, but this is really putting me off. Not to mention I've been reading James Ellroy lately, White Jazz, LA Confidential, and I just finished playing Alan Wake, I could really use a true Max Payne 3 right about now. Max Payne isn't defined by the New York setting and the Brazil setting offers something new and is a natural progression of the story. It's good to see them not rehashing the same formula again. What about Sao Paulo doesn't scream Noir, scum bags, sleeziness, and junkies? It's the same genre, it's still Max Payne, it's still Noir, it's still a crime story. It has nearly all the elements you'd find in the Noir genre. I'd love to know what you're seeing that tells you otherwise. The sunlight? This isn't noir. It's Sunny Brazilian favelas. It could be in brazil but not like this. And it doesn't have to be New York, Noir isn't "New York", it's a crime infested dark urban city, it's mystery, femme fatales, the whole dark, black and white'ish style is a deep part of the essence. Just Like Max Payne 1 & 2. You guys can stop pretending we're just haters and admit the truth, even if this turns out to be an amazing game, this isn't what any Max Payne fan wanted.[QUOTE="AAllxxjjnn"] It only makes sense, Max Payne 1 and 2 took the New York setting far enough, it's time for something a little different. People always want something new, but then when it comes they complain. AAllxxjjnn

Am I missing something here? Why isn't it max payne?
Aside from the same voice actor (which they also wanted to change) and the combat, there's absolutely nothing in common with the Noir series we know and love. (even the graphic novel scenes are completely gone)
Same gameplay doesn't make it part of a series, or else every crappy Military FPS would belong to the same franchise.

The amount of ignorance in this thread is ridiculous.

Sao Paulo IS a crime infested dark urban city. You're whole argument basically boils down to: The low-key lighting isn't featured in every level of the game, therefore not noir. There is more to noir than the lighting schemes, which you seem know that, but why do you choose to ignore all the noir elements in Max Payne 3 anyways? Do you know anything about this game outside of seeing screenshots?
And right, no Max Payne fan would ever wants this, which is why there is such positive feedback from many fans of the original Max Payne games, including me. But they're not REAL Max Payne fans like yourself.

i like the new max payne.
You've never played Max Payne have you? I have and I like the new Max Payne. That pic^ Looks friggen amazing. If the game is like that with the normal Max Payne Noir narrative. It's going to be amazing. But the only gameplay I've seen is of it is the hangover 2 dude in sunny favelas, and it looks like a military shooter.

You basically just want the EXACT same game, with the EXACT same story and gameplay then. Honestly, its not wonder games like Call of Duty never change, because apparently their fans never want it to.
Rockstar definitely did a lot to make this a great game for fans. They even went out of their way to get McCaffrey back in even when they originally didn't plan it, and if you think Noir only works in a rainy New York setting,
It looks like a great shooter, with a great story that brings Max Payne to the new generation, and if fans really cared so damn much about him then they wouldn't whine about stupid whiny bulls**t especially when Remedy themselves has expressed liking what Rockstar is doing with Max.

Well the new york scenes look exactly like old max payne. Is everyone only watching the brazil stuff?
I hope the game is open world, I know the other Max Payne games weren't. But Red Dead wasn't open world origionally either, and plus open world is what Rockstar does best!
Nooo, I want a linear third person shooter! Seriously :PI hope the game is open world, I know the other Max Payne games weren't. But Red Dead wasn't open world origionally either, and plus open world is what Rockstar does best!

Linear isn't a bad thing, Uncharted is a pretty linear game but it's amazing lol.
I just think Rockstar creates awesome worlds and make them interesting to explore, that's why I want it to be open world. But I'm sure the game will be good either way, it looks like it's going to be a heavy game (and not in terms of just violence, but in terms of story and atmosphere too).

Well you'll be disappointed to know that its not open world and was never intended to be.
Those screens are so sad. Wtf are they doing with Max Payne, why not keep it true to it's roots. This looks so generic.
The original noir, winter in new york city, scum bag italian mobster, sleezy motel rapes, junkies and trying to be the only cop in the department that's not on the take... this is... sunny, samba and south americans... and I don't even
I wish Remedy was making Max Payne 3.

Does not compute.
so many butthurt "pretend i'm a max payne fan derp derp this is not max payne because he's bald herp" fakeboys crying. remedy approves of the work rockstar has done and if you've seen the recent trailers you'd know this game is just as dark, depressing, and morbid as previous max payne games were. not to mention the gameplay looks absolutely amazing at this point--i'm putting my money on this game having the best TPS gameplay in recent memory. you people just hate to see the series moving in interesting directions.princeofshapeir
Honestly, I just can't wait to see their reactions once this game gets so much critical acclaim.
"It SOO overrated you guys, this isn't Max Payne, derp derp derp".
You do know that this game isn't being made by neither the developers of GTA nor Red Dead Redemption?I hope the game is open world, I know the other Max Payne games weren't. But Red Dead wasn't open world origionally either, and plus open world is what Rockstar does best!
