You might have gotten your wish. It seems that copies of the latest Sony DVD's don't work on older DVD players, but work fine on newer players. When called on the bluff, Sony apologized and called the error "updated copy protection." They weren't going to go back to their policy either, unlike the CD fiasco. Of course, DVD players don't naturally recieve firmware updates like computers do (wonder who had to explain Sony that one), so Sony had to re-issue all DVDs with lesser protection.

You can buy a new DVD player for $25. You just have to upgrade over the years.
