Maybe Microsoft and Sony should join up next gen...

You know, the PS4 could have a windows operating system. Especially with the move.


I mean, isn't OS Microsoft's strong point? Not Hardware?

I know that there are a lot of people that are going to say "Competition is good" but you know, there's still Nintendo and a thousand other substitutes for entertainment.

Scrap all motion controls, keep the 360s controller & online/dashboard, & we may have a winner.

no it hasnt. It has kept developers like valve away up until sony bribed them to get portal 2. It has resulted in the ps3 getting lower quality performance even on titles being developed simultaneously for both platforms.

And if what everyone says is true and the cell processor has power yet to be unlocked by developers.... why the hell would you want architecture that takes devs 5 years to acclimate to?

I think microsoft should make the pc market more mainstream, like have there next console a pc that only plays it games, thats upgrade able

Windows on a console? Why, it's too unstable and sucks too many resources on its own. Also, who wants viruses on their console?

They shouldn't join up, and they won't. Their competition is good for us, the end users. If they did combine their efforts, it would just be bad. Both companies have, hopefully, learned enough this gen to provide an even better experience this gen.

if this were true, sony wouldn't have sold their ENTIRE stake in the Cell BE to Toshiba. furthermore, if the Cell BE were a great investment, IBM wouldn't have killed off ALL future R&D and investment in the Cell.

It is not a matter of Sony or IBM making it hard to develop for. It is a fundamentally different architecture for processing operations. In order to use the cell's architecture properly, a programmer has to change their methods, which will always take longer.

Yea its never gonna happen... especially because microsoft's whole corporate culture is to destroy their competition and rub it in their face. There is a reason everyone hates MS... they arent nice guys. And monopolies are their bread and butter.

I wanna see google strong arm their way into the console business.

*sniff sniff* i smell bull----! most of what MS makes is great. sony on the other hand....let's see, there's the rootkit on AUDIO CD's, DRE's on every ps console generation, exploding batteries, ATRAC and other proprietary failures like MiniDisc, SA-CD, Sony's version of the CD and DVD, the UMD, Sony's online music store (iTunes rip-off),etc. Sony has had more f--- ups than MS. the difference is MS has a hell of a lot more money to work with so they could afford to make more mistakes.

not exactly. the physical structure of the CD was developed by Royal Phillips. sony ad a competing format that failed. they helped in writing the Red Book which is a set of standards for audio sources, like using LPCM. the same happened with DVD, but replace RP with Toshiba.
