I don't need to play a Mass Effect game to not want a sequel to come out. o__o

Shad0ki11

You aren't making any sense, at all. So you don't like ME and you haven't played it and hate the idea of the story to come to a conclusion? Only in these forums do I encounter these types of responses...

I never said I didn't like Mass Effect. I don't like the fact that every game that comes out this gen has to have 1 to 2 goddamn sequels. Is that so ****ing hard to understand?

Let me guess you're completly fine with GOW being a trilogy though.

I'll agree to the extent that not every game needs a sequel but if the game is planned from the start to be a trilogy then wtf is the issue.

Please dont mess with the formula by adding some useless multiplayer.abdu4
excatly. developing a multiplayer section for the game will probably mean that less time will be dedicated to the EPIC singleplayer.

If it's just co-op, then AWESOME! I always pictured MAss Effect as a co-op game. But if it's competitive, then NO!!

Wow if it actually does have multiplayer, hopefully the actually make creative game types instead of just Deathmatches, Capture the Flag and all that crap.

Multiplayer would be great imo. The game is a squad based 3rd person shooter. I don't see how it would be ruined by replacing wonky AI controlled squad mates with real people who won't take cover by standing on top of crates. You could solve dialog trees by just including more people in the conversation, similar to what The Old Republic is doing.

Bioware have already shown that online co-op doesn't hurt their games' campaigns (the Baldurs Gate series was just as great online as it was offline), and Mass Effect is already party-based, so this could potentially be a very good thing. Then again, having three Shepards wandering around in single-player might get a little weird.

I hope it's some kind of CO-OP, where a friend can take control of one of your squad-mates. Now that would be awesome.

I don't think they would go that route when there are so many potential party members. The host would probably be Shep with everyone else having to pick from the remaining characters.

'hai guys Modern Warfare 2 had successful multiplayer so we totally should add some too.' 'YA! that sounds GREAT' -- Some games just don't need MP. Metroid Prime: Echoes, BioShock 2, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, etc -- the list goes on.

[QUOTE="CaptainHarley"]

remember bioshock 2? "OH NOES MULTIPLAY WILL RUIN GAEM"

then it turned out to be fine. scc also had awesome multiplayer desite being regarded widely as a mostly single-player game. hold your raging tears back until we see the final product, or at least some inkling of what it will be like.

personally i think a small, self-contained mass effect multiplayer mode could be awesome.

Parasomniac

Those are kind of bad examples. Bioshock 2's single player wasn't as good as the original.

How does that relate to the tacked on MP not being as bad as people thought?

Yes.

The story is big, was planned to be big from the beginning so it spans over 3 games. Its no different to a movie trilogy (more expensive i suppose but ah well).

Why not just have the big story in one game? A one-hit KO of a game.

Are you gonna give them the money to make that big one-hit KO? Because neither Microsoft or EA will.

If Star Wars had been just one film we never would have gotten Empire Strikes Back, or the conclusion to the story. If the first movie hadn't made so much money there would not have been enough money to finish such a grandiose story. With a story that has an entirely new universe included in it, it's a bit difficult to flesh it all out in one game, and Mass Effect would not be the same or as fun without its massive scale.

What you're basically saying is, I want every game to fit a certain small archetype made just for me so that I don't have to see any sequels ever made even if it's entirely justified and planned from the very start.

Good to know. Now, are they using a new engine or still stuck with UE3? I really don't want same graphics, garbage animations and no physics for the third time.

People said the same thing about Dragon Age, which was originally intended to have multiplayer and probably would've been better with some form of online co-op (like in BG2).

Sure, Mass Effect 3 doesn't need multiplayer, but if done right it would be a great addition. Many party-based RPGs really beg for that sort of thing.

Im not surprised, gameplay wise Bioware (finally) did a great job with Mass Effect 2. I just hope they doesnt mix the awesome campaign im expecting in ME3 with their multiplayer plans.

Please dont. I wouldnt mind to have a coop mode, like Horde or firefight but the campaign should be singleplayer only. ME is about the story and im sure it wouldnt work as good if it had coop

I don't see why not. You have two people in Shepard's squad anyway, so they might as well let other players control them.

They could do it like they did one of the options in Baldurs Gate 2, where only the game creator can make dialogue choices.

careful with these ideas, those are dangerous. its better to be all negative and make tired complaints about how multiplayer is ruining video games

But half the game is spent talking to NPCs and exploring the world. How would they make that part fun in coop? Probably taking those elements off and making it more like a shooter. Thats why i dont want Bioware to mix sp and mp.

Shad0ki11

And is it so hard to understand the fact that the game is a trilogy? What do you want the whole trilogy on one disk? Again have YOU ever played a ME game? ME1 and ME2 are very different in gameplay mechanics this isn't just a sequel like 99 percent of all of these new gen sequels. If you never played a ME game and you come here saying OH ANOTHER sequel you are either trolling or just being plain hateful.

I'm not trolling or being hateful. I don't see how not having played a Mass Effect game correlates to me hating the series. I just don't like how every game is getting a sequel. Mass Effect 3 is another sequel, Killzone 3 is another sequel, Halo Reach is another sequel, LittleBigPlanet 2 is another sequel. They're all sequels.

Sequels = been there, done that.

The reason it matters that you haven't played them is that you don't seem to understand the nature of the ME/ME2 relationship. They are the ideal example of why sequels can be good, improving so many aspects of the game.

I guess they have to do something to sell. I didn't like Mass Effect 2 in the slightest, but it got a lot of 10/10 reviews, it's really a critically acclaimed game. 1.5 million in sales is really disappointing.

Why not just have the big story in one game? A one-hit KO of a game.

Because the game would take forever to make and they'd have to release it at a higher price if they wanted to make a profit. There's a reason most of these games have budgets and time constraints, be it for the better or worse.

Well if you look at the main story arc for Mass Effect 2, it accomplishes nothing that the first did not already cover. It was pretty much like playing part 1(story-wise) again with a few characters that were more interesting.

That's um, stupid.

I know me and my friends were joking about it last year. This game is an average third person shooter, only reason why it's hailed as great is because it's supposedly an RPG. I hope this is a REALLY late April Fools joke..
