For Mechawarrior? Well I guess Atlas doesn't look as bad as some of them. For mecha in general? I'm a fan of Masami Obari's works.
I'm not aware of his work. For japanese mecha I like the designs of most of the gundams.
Yeah he hasn't created too much stuff but I enjoy what he has created. He has two styles, one is a darker kind of style that he used in the 80s, and recently he has been making mecha that focus on the cliches of super robots.
Dangaioh is a good representation of his 80s art sty1e.

Yeah the most "realistic" mecha design that I like are the suits from Armored Trooper Votoms.
awww hell yeah :D pc exclusive as well, hope they push the visuals a little bit, at least as good as the crysis mod MWLL
The second I saw "PC exclusive" in the OP, my first thought turned to "MMO". PC exclusivity has become rather predictable...
I remember a time when PC gaming was lauded for its incredible single player experiences. A time when it was PC exclusives, not console exclusives, that had the most cinematic single player games. Now if you're a big single player gamer, it just feels like you're better off buying a PS3.
Hope this game satisfies the MechWarrior faithful, anyhow. It'll be interesting to see how Gamespot reviews these types of games relative to retail standards.

My introduction to PC gaming was with Origin Systems... games like Wing Commander 3 and 4, Privateer, Ultima and Crusader. And the golden days of graphic adventures from Lucasarts... there was always online play for RTSs and later FPSs, but even the emphasis in the really good FPSs like Jedi Knight was often on the single player experience.Eh, I feel like the industry has changed a lot on me, and maybe I should stop trying to holdout from the MMO/free-to-play future. Anyway, sorry for the off-topicness.

I'm partial to the Mad Cat, Atlas and Awesome, but several of my favourites are among the Unseen; I'm hoping they can sort things out so the Unseen can be included but I wouldn't be surprised if they remain lost to us.

indeed it is. it will primarily be set in the waking years or decades of the clan wars.
however certain liberties will be taken to deliever the more famous mechs
What are some other good Mechwarrior games recently?Cool beans. Can't wait. A lot of good mech games for PC recently, I hope this keeps that going.

I never played mech assault (though I want to)
is something wrong with it?
Not on it's own. It was just pure arcade, so it could never satisfy fans of Mechwarrior.Umm..there was Wing Commander...and...umm....that's pretty much it. Unless you mean adventure games, but those still get made in large quanities and most of them are exclusive.A time when it was PC exclusives, not console exclusives, that had the most cinematic single player games.

But yes, if you want high-end 3D graphics and you don't want strategy F2P is the way to go. There are some exceptions, but for most devs who want to work on such games it's either dumb it down and go mulitplat or make PC exclusive F2P.
That said, more and more of those games are doing Singleplayer-like narrative missions that can be played alone or in co-op. People like those and it's not like devs aren't noticing it.
So sick.... gameplay footage please!http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/10/31/meet-mechwarrior-online-piranhas-free-to-play-tactical-mech-sim/
Meet MechWarrior Online, Piranha's free-to-play tactical Mech sim
After two years of near-total silence about the fate of the MechWarrior reboot, Piranha Games have announced MechWarrior Online, a free-to-play, team-based multiplayer BattleMech sim. It's also going to tell the story of the Battletech universe in real-time, starting from just before the Clan Invasion of 3050. Each day, players will do battle on behalf of the universe's major factions, and each day in the game will represent a single day's action in the fictional Inner Sphere. It will go live in the second half of 2012.
However, in some very real ways, this is not the Mechwarrior you remember. And it's a good thing, too, because Ekman and Piranha games have some very exciting ideas for how to make Mechwarrior more of a tactical sim and less of a shooter.

Should be saweeet though at this point I'm not PC ready so I'm hoping that Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor will not only suffice for mah Mech game fix but perhaps even eclipse any Mech game that came before it :o tall order I know but wht, a gamer can dream can't he ? :P

Yeah I've seen it and tho. Well, of course I include adventure games. That was the most popular genre of the early 90s when I started PC gaming. I wouldn't say adventure games are still made in large quantities, though; there are some here and there made on small budgets over the last few years, a very minor revival after a long period of relative death in the '00s. But from what I see most notable non-indie ones are ported over to other platforms. But it's not that I strive for adventure games or Origin Systems, necessarily (Heh, well, maybe a little). I just want more PC games to integrate an immersive, well-thought out and intricately woven single player narrative into their games. Not just about having high-end 3D graphics, but using that technology to create inspired cinematic experiences like Uncharted, Heavy Rain and RDR. Or like Wing Commander, Curse of Monkey Island, Myst and the Beast Within were in their respective times.
It does feel like the primary experience has shifted over to the multiplayer realm for major PC games, and MechWarrior is the newest IP to fully make that transition. It's happening in the console realm too, but it feels like it has not yet shifted as far as the PC has... at least not on PS3. Probably it just feels that way because major PC games are dominated by strategy and F2P/MMO, like you pointed out.

gamespot says its kinetic compatibleNo, it's required. You have to use both the Kinect AND an Xbox 360 controller in order to play. There have been plenty of games where GameSpot has said "Kinect Compatible" but Kinect was actually required to play. No different than people thinking that when a company buys out another company, they call it a "merger" which it is actually a takeover. People mess up words all the damn time.

Being twenty-something doesn't exactly classify as minor, hence the 'older than I am'.I grew up with the MechWarrior IP, am extremely fond of it, and comments like that give myself the impression of being being a 50 year old crotchety guy happy about a revival.
That's actually completely wrong. And I'm not bashing you heare, seriosly. You just don't really seem to be in touch with what's being released these days in this genreWell, of course I include adventure games. That was the most popular genre of the early 90s when I started PC gaming. I understand your general point, byt Myst? THat's the most un cinematic game I can think off. Now, I'm all for strong narrative, but PC always exceled at immersive narrative, not cinematic one.
To me it doesn't. Because nothing that was cinematic before on PC ever switched to consoles. Consoles made their own ways into cinematic realm, not much of it camed from PC.It does feel like the primary experience has shifted over to the multiplayer realm
SakusEnvoy
Anyway. I believe MMO-like model fits Mechwarrior a lot better and the narrative progress they want to do is absolutely fascinating and would be impossible to do in singleplayer game.

Don't kid yourself, Heavy Armor will not be nearly as good as the past Steel Battalion games let alone the best mecha game.
Please no. Uncharted is an on-rails dumb as bricks tale, that's a very well executed game, and Heavy Rain features some of the worst writing for an acclaimed game to date, let alone its massive array of design and narrative faults.I just want more PC games to integrate an immersive, well-thought out and intricately woven single player narrative into their games.
