Smoke and Mirrors.OdrecSo did that means that MS lied in order to put a show and win E3... SHOCKING!!... not really...Really? A game console maker using "smoke and mirrors" at E3 in order to make a bigger showing than their competitor. Ever heard of Sony's Killzone 2 demoback in 2005? Who really cares anyway? Nobody really "wins" E3!!Imo, all 3 console makers showed up huge this year. Gaming in late 2009 and 2010 looks to be as good as ever on all consoles!
I know! Peter Molyneux giving us false hope! That`s insanity!Peter Molyneux over hyped? =O You don't say?

He said in plain english they'd have to show it off behind doors because it wasn't developed enough yet. They had a developer with a controller standing in plain view of everyone who interacted with it to make sure it worked. You'd have a point if they whole thing was just a pre-rendered movie, but it wasn't. Milo could recognise you, talk to you, ask your name and comment on your clothing.
... only theres a guy behind a curtain who helps control him.
Another point, how is a random journalist speculating as to how much of the demonstration was running in real time 'confirmation that milo is a FAKE!' as you put it? Now that right there = thread completely taken down, yet i bet people will continue to discuss this anyway. :PNinja-Hippohmmm... he said that Molyneux told him to stick to what happened in the presentation in order for Milo to work. He is not speculating they (the people working on Natal) actually told him it didn't work as advertised.

Or, they were simply telling him that, due to the fact that Milo is still very early in development and wouldn't work fully because of that.
I'm shocked that you guys need sources to believe that it's fake when the clues are right there. There are so many giveaways why that thing was fake:
My own suspicions run a bit deeper though. The current standard for AI doesn't even come close to what this demo is demonstrating. So what if Milo can recognise the picture of a fish? The AI is not capable of understanding things like tone, and questions. Peter Molyneux can barely make his games have good combat ai let alone react to emotions. Then there is the case of pulling steven spielberg on stage to pressure him to say certain things. Because he's a film genius, that means we need to believe his views on games?
The problem with Peter Molyneux being promoted to Creative Director gets me to think that not only is microsoft fooling us, but microsoft is being fooled by molyneux himself. The technology to capture real life motion is there and it's believable. I don't believe for once that peter molyneux has created AI that's this complex. He demonstrated this on video because if someone doubted him, he wouldn't have to do anything to prove himself. He can just say "well the lady on the video can't hear you"
Daylight robbery.

Kinda normal when you know it isnt completed worked out.If it was real: Peter Molyneux would be demonstrating it right there himself instead of showing a video of someone else demonstrating it.The demo was meant for behind closed doors folks, meaning they picked and chose who gets to try it
MaxPower15
Or maybe y'know... it was just a tech demo. Like they said it was. And wasn't finished. And wasn't a game. And wasn't anywhere near ready for public release. Heck, when something is at a stage so early that Molyneux could only 'hope' that it would be a game one day, it's a little naive to expect some finished. In a nutshell: People calling 'fake' need to look up what fake means. At no point did they run a movie of something not real. At no point did they show something off which doesn't work the way they showed it to work. The very fact that they showed a video and not a demo, and that they demoed it behind closed doors should be fairly obvious that you're not dealing with a finished product here.

later it might work like that. the pint is: it's just a misleading demo.
I knew pretty well it was fake but many people here was using it to say how MS destroyed everyone else with their conference and their main attraction was Natal and Milo. Most people believed that crap since MS kept winning the polls on who won E3. MS showed some good exclusives but their conference was filled with fireworks and multiplatform games. Sony's conference was so great at showing new titles that they couldn't even fit some of the most anticipated games like Demon's Souls, WKC and R&C.I'm shocked that you guys need sources to believe that it's fake when the clues are right there. It sounded more like him speculating that it was fake.II-FBIsniper-IIPartly yeah. When I saw he demo at the conf. it looked so scripted. What's funny is the Milo demo was available to "selected" journalists, behind closed doors...and during the backstage demos, they told the journalists to follow a certain script :?.
not to sure what you mean by this comment... there has been plenty of doubt by people who have been to the demo... What strikes me is that every jounralist had to follow prettty much on script what peter told them... GT said that the technology was mostly based on the tone of your voice and not actually recognizing, thinking, and coming up with a legit answer to give back. Not only that but it seems milo has a very limited amount of things he can say etc. because his voice from what i noticed is scripted and has been recorded by obviously a voice actor. Dont get me wrong though, the technology is impressive, but its no where to what peter said in the conference or what people are thinking it is.The majority have said otherwise. GT failed this time. :( For shame.

Who cares if its a tech demo. If they can show someone using it through a video then they should be able to show it right there on the stage. For all we know it was a video in on the screen and then that lady had just rehearsed what to say and timed everything perfectly. Even if it wasn't finished they should have been able to show it to the audience right there, that shouldn't be a big problem for Microsoft.[QUOTE="finesse-gamer"][QUOTE="blackeneddeath"] not to sure what you mean by this comment... there has been plenty of doubt by people who have been to the demo... people who are pro-MS.
everyone else doesn't matter.
that is, unless he went to every single gaming website and tallied up all the reactions, and compared the numbers. which i doubt.

You lemmings defend M$ and Meanuneu(sp?) way too much....he's being spread tall tales about his games as long as I can remember him making games....even before he became a m$ flunky. Remember black and white? Yeah the pc game from 2000-01(can't remember which year), he was claiming all this stuff about the creature and how it you could teach it tactics and and went on all this crazy spew of garbage. when the game released the creature did do some stuff, basically just ate rocks and sheep, crap and hurled crap at people... it was a fun game I will admit that, but the guy lied about the ai. He then did the same thing with fable, and fable 2, always overexagerating. Never belive this guy. And if the thing wasn't ready don't show it. MS was lacking content so they needed to show all they could, and put in celebrities with the cash in their bottom less pockets to fill in the gaps. They were smug and arrogant at e3, and it was typical. As a side note, my favorite thing was when Don Matrox was like we welcom solid snake on xbox and kojima just snickered and was like.."Who said solid snake, you get raiden done by the new B American team because Konami needs money and is making me do this... that I don't work with that team...hahaha".....(ok maybe just the first part but you get the idea...lol)[QUOTE="clubsammich91"]no one has trusted Peter since Fable 1 came out.LordQuorthon
Microsoft seems to love him.
He sells a lot of games.
I don't think Milo was meant to be some uber AI/friend sim/little boy sim. I always saw it as a better way to do NPCs in a RPG and dialog trees. Yes, it would be scripted and obviously you couldn't talk about anything to it, it would have to be relevant to the game and the current events going on in the game. I was always expecting that. I pop in Mass Effect and there aren't options to ask characters if they saw Lost last night and off topic stuff like that. It's always about the event happening right then and there. That's what I assumed Milo was and thats what it sounds like it is.Senor_KamiBut how neat would it be if the system had an active connection to the internet which could search for relevant subjects. .Ah, a guy can dream..
