Metal Gear Online beta...

I must have gotten lucky....mine downloaded in like literally 2 seconds today. It is a very small file size I belive. Although I won't be able to play the game until probably Thursday :(. I rely on GS/Gaf for impressions........

I made my date and time accurate and I do not get the security certificate message any longer.

You could DL that update before the servers were up so that does not mean they are up. It is probably so slow because a lot of people are DL'ing it at once.

At the moment it does not look like it will be a very smooth start at all to the public beta. I bet we all get a pretty good week out of it but I doubt this first week will be very enjoyable. I hope I am wrong though.

I just got home from work and completed the Konami ID and Game ID registration.

Unable to connect to server.(090B:00000001)

WTF Konami? First a horrendous install then a ridiculous registration!

I give up for today, I'll try again tomorrow.

all that downloading and updating sounds super fun compared to my situation: not yet receiving a complete code from Konami via email, despite messaging them three times and explaining that my DVD had only a 9-digit code. what gives? other people have said they got a complete code within hours. This is the most beta of any public beta I have ever played. Correction,tried to play. It seems like a very ammeter effort, or just plain lazy effort, by Kanomi.

I know I should not expect much as it is a beta. But I would have least expected them to have the servers ready to at least try and get a few games running. But these servers shut down the minute they get any population at all?

Sadly, after the annoying ID process I felt like this was coming.

Edit: I do not see any information about what is going on posted on the Kanomi website. I hope they keep the beta going longer then a few weeks and make sure everything is as good as it can be for the release. They need to do whatever they have to in order to be ready. Beta's can be excused, server problems with a full day one population can not be.

Now granted, the problems are purely from a Networking standpoint and it is kind of ridiculous that Konami wasn't better prepared for the Beta of the only freaking reason to own a PS3, but still, it's a Beta, so deal with it and go play 'GT5: Prologue' or something.

And just because a lot of fans were hyped up for it, and are now ticked and annoyed, does not make them idiots.

But I do disagree some. Just because the entire throwing in a beta test with the reservations thing was either asking for trouble, or could have created a situation that they should have seen coming.

I will pick a thread and stick to it now.

it's not the beta that;s buggy.... the site doesn't work most of the time (it does now). the downloading of the update went wrong dozens of times... and then you had to restart EVERY SINGLE TIME.... and the proces of getting a Konami ID and Gamer ID is ridiculous.. i have never seen anything as user unfriendly as these Konami efforts to get people in to a Beta

I honestly don't expect MGO to be as good as COD4 or GRAW, I just want to get a feel of the controls for MGS4. But them again, I always tought that you would spontaneous combust when you're hands touched a PS3 controller, so maybe it isn't so bad afterall.

Umm...these are the kinds of issues you have a Beta to test for. Beta means the game isn't ready for the public. So its being tested by those who get into the beta. Part of that testing is for problems just like this one.

The thinng I liked about GRAW is it felt like you were controlling this technologically enhanced soldier with all these cool vehicles and equipment to control while in MGO it felt like I was just running around shootng people while no using anythin butt my rifle and a grenade sometimes.

Have you ever played an online game for the first time without knowing how to play it? Of course it sucks cause you don't know how to play yet. Play warhawk for the first time and its not too great of an experience. Watch a pro play it and it becomes an entirely different game once you see it played right. Same goes for MGO. You can't expect to be blown away by an online game playing ten minutes of it at a con against other people who don't yet know how to play.

Yeah... that seems a little odd. So if they collect data, what can they actually do with it within 2 months? I would expect only minor tweaks. Major problems would still be major problems when the game launches.

Has the game even gone Gold yet? I'm assuming not if they're still doing the online beta.
