Halo ODST has a stellar soundtrack. But I concur with the OP, MGS4 has a great OST.

I couldnt stand ODST's soundtrack, maybe its just me.

Must be you.

I could think of hundreds of games that have better music. Both the Sim City and Metal Slug series are goldmines are far as decent VG music is concerned.

I mean honestly how does Kojima find all this talent? Every single game has won multiple awards even for the soundtrack. Just listen to MGS: Peace Walker's Main Theme, it's unbelievably beautiful.

Blazerdt47

Then a game called Chrono Cross shows up in this thread and confirms that MGS does not have the best music in gaming.

Most of the songs in the MGS series are ambient except for the cutscenes where they go all out. Hence the reason why people choose to select its amazing theme songs instead of ambient songs like The World Needs Only One Big Boss.

The ignorance in this statement...the ignorance in the OP's post...

it's akin to saying "Twilight is a masterpiece of fiction"

Hans Zimmer COD:MW2=The best!

Shattered007
Hans Zimmer isn't really a gaming composer he did the music for gladiator and alien and probably got asked to do MW2 because it was a major release, but ANYWAYS ! I think that Kingdom Hearts / The World Ends With You has the best music ever in a video game.

GTA series always had the most enjoyable music,Vice City in particular.

Bus-A-Bus

I'd take San Andreas soundtrack over any GTA.

probably because I prefer 90s Rock, big time. but the country/rap in that game was worth listening too.

GTA4 was pretty meh other than 1979 by Smashing Pumpkins.

I guess shooters aren't supposed to be considered 'very good' or 'amazing' in the music department:?

the fact that it's a Halo title puts emphasis on it, sadly....

It's pretty amazing how people are citing that new Peace Walker song "Heaven's divide" as the biggest music ever in a videogame....

i'd feel so ashamed if someone told a non-gamer that that was the best thing in a game...

Shadow of the Colossus and FFXIII have stellar scores. I have the MGS4 soundtrack, but it just doesn't stand a chance against the SOTC OST.

I refuse to conform to that:P though, I guess I don't have to,

but 90s>>80s, for me, you apply that and VC had no chance anyway.:D

Dude...you best watch your mouth! Love theme is freaking stellar especially during the Microwave room scene, and the way "Here's to You" comes in at the end during the credits is just magnificent. And those are just songs not even by the man himself, HGW. "Old Snake" has a great "japanese" feel to it, "Mobs Alive" has a great "hype you up" feel to it that always makes me want to play MGS4 when I hear it. "Father and Son" is so beautiful, especially where it's put in during the game and I just love "Metal Gear Saga"! It reminds me of all the past games. And these are just a few songs. MGS4 has quite possibly one of the best soundtracks IMO :D

"I heard you on my wireless back in '52!"

"Mister can you tell me where my love has gone? He's my Japanese boy!"

"I said you wanna be starting something!? You gotta be starting something!"

How about "Juicy Fruit" by Mtume!? That song is legendary and brought about one of my favorite samplings by Notorious BIG.

There are just so many songs I remember my mom listening to when I was just a little kid! It was the ultimate trip down memory lane!

as long as it make me shed tears, i agree.

i evaluate soundtracks based on thier emotional aspect.

Have you ever played Xenogears? Probably the only game that could get me teary eyed just due to the music.

MGS1 alert theme, Theme of Tara, the MGS2 theme and the MGS3 theme(preferably the instrumental) are awesome.

Also the tony hawk series, it introduced me to metal and to jazz.
