Metro Last Light vs. Crysis 3:Heavyweight battle for the visual throne (no 56k)

They are pretty much even, but I gotta give my personal opinion/preference to Metro LL. It gave me way more OMFG!!! moments. Not to mention the campaign is way better.

Crysis3 might technically be slightly better graphics wise, but Metro LL is the better of the graphics kings games imo, in almost every way.

I'd easily give it to Crysis 3. I've come across some pretty fugly textures in Last Light, not to mention character models are pretty average in MLL

My vote is Metro LL (unmodded)

Crysis 3 is an amazing looking game, it pushes more polys and higher textures than LL. Pyscho's face and a few others look better than Metro LL's faces.

But LL uses it's visuals so well, the detail is exceptional. Light and shadow is intrinsic to the experience. The underground cities are many times better than crysis 3's "social" area. Some of the exterior vistas of crumbling moscow are jaw dropping. LL knows how to use graphics to enhance the experience, C3 just throws graphics at me (admittedly they are impressive)

Very well said. Metro enhanced it's atmosphere with great visuals. C3 was pretty for the sake of being pretty

I think Crysis 3 has both the best and worst looking parts between the two games. But, Metro Last Light looks the most consistently nice even though not the best.

Metro LL has its moments, but Crysis 3 looks better than Metro LL, and it looks better more often.

So same as with Metro 2033: you really had to do all the nice stuff that was in the game to get the good ending.

Exactly my thoughts. Crysis 3 has some very high highs but some terribly low lows. And because it looks so good at times when it looks bad it's really noticeable. Metro seems to keep it's visuals constant and the same throughout. It has some ups and downs too as all games do but they're less noticeable. 

Honestly, as far as pure graphical fidelity, or rather moments I played where I literally exclaimed "How the hell is this level of detail possible!?" Crysis 3 blows Metro out of the water. There are some textures in Metro that clearly show 4A's limited budget and look like something out of a early-2000s game. Crysis 2 with Maldomod is also far superior to Metro. With that said...I think the world of Metro, the art style, the use (not tech) of lighting all leave Crysis in the dust. When playing Crysis, I was blown away by the technical detail of the world. When playing Metro LL, I was blown away by the world itself. All things considered, I prefer the look of Metro to Crysis. I won't spend ten minutes babbling about how detailed the grass is, but I will spend multiple campaigns in rapture at the beauty of it as a whole.

Wasn't Metro 2033 looking better than LL? Anyways Crysis 3 destroys Metro LL completely. I wasn't impressed at all while playing Metro LL, FXAA or whatever AA option they were using blurred the shit outta everything.

Its very close, but Crysis 3 looks prettier. Metro LL was a MUCH better game though.

Haven't played Crysis 3 since upgrading actually. I should just to see what it's like, a 780Ti and 4770k should chew through that game

Indeed, even with my 4670k and 780, 45 at very high is pretty average.

One of the many things I don't get about this forum is that it's acceptable to post panoramic shots of PC games, but when it's a console game it's labeled as a bullshot. How does that work?

Anyway I prefer the artistic look of Last Light. Crysis games don't have souls.

To this date Crysis 3 graphics truly blow my mind. What kind of disappoints me is the fact that when I visited the flagship computer store in Oslo, Norway, there was a $15,000 PC setup ready to play Crysis 3 there.

had 3 x 2560x1600p monitors, ran Nvidia 3D-vision, had 3 X GTX Titans, the most expensive six core i7 CPU, 32gb ram, ASUS Rampage IV mobo etc...

Settings weren't even maxed out so I cranked everything I could to absolute maximum and it turned into a slide show.

$15,000 and its still a slideshow. God f-ing damn it.

Imagine running 3 * 4K monitors...

Metro LL would win if the character models for the monsters were better. The game looks amazing but the artistic design of the mutants just detract from it for me.

Just did a run through of the first level maxed out with SMAA and the lowest it went was 59 fps. Mostly staying up in the 70s

From a technical standpoint then Crysis. Aesthetically Metro has a much better artstyle and atmosphere.

What resolution was that at?

I don't actually have Crysis 3 yet, I will get it at some point to see how well I can play it at 2560 x 1440.

Hmm, I just tried the first level and I was getting 50-60 (with V Sync on so maybe it was going higher). The level I was playing before I was getting crappy performance like constant 45fps even if I lowered settings which I thought was a bit weird.

Last light no holds bar.

1920x1200.

I did a run through of the grass level where the tower fires at you and it tanked to about 42 fps. It was really choppy. But once the tower was destroyed it went back up passed 60. Vsync off of course

Just did a quick test seeing as i havn't tried it in months and there's been a good few driver updates since.

Crysis 3 probably takes it from a technical standpoint, but I think Metro Last Light has a much better artistic design in its setting and has much better atmosphere.
