[QUOTE="IronBass"]The lack of love for MP2 Echoes in this thread is more than dissapointing... Especially considering it's the best of the three.

Naaaaah, the dark world felt gimmicky and the ammo for the weapons felt stupid. The backtracking in it was worse than the first, where I actually enjoyed it. There's a reason MP1 has higher critical acclaim and user acclaim >_>..

I'm selling off MP1 & MP2 just for this! :shock:

I have not beaten either of the two.

Not only did it have backstory out the wazoo, it had a story with a proper ending. It wasn't just like every other Metroid game. There was actually a narrative worth paying attention to that was delivered in a very non-traditional way.foxhound_fox

Agreed. After scanning all the Logs, what I had read was one of the best and best-told stories any game has had. The Lominoth were very interesting characters, andI found the brief interactions with their holograms/ghostsvery emotional (which may have to do with the excellent atmosphere around them).

I think the main reason why so many people hate Echoes is because its not like Prime. All they wanted was just another Super-Metroid-in-3D remake and weren't expecting a game to take everything Prime did well and put a new spin on it.foxhound_fox

I applause Retro Studio's for taking risks like that. The Ing Horde proved to be an awesome enemy, and the dark world was awesome. Overall, they gave the game a very darker feeling. Besides, it helped MP2 to be a stand alone experience, not just MP with better graphics. I can understand that that may upset some Prime purists, but the game manages to do what very few can: feel familiar and yet so different. It's a shame not many people look it that way.

That and the setting was nothing like any other Metroid game. Sanctuary Fortress was probably the best place in any Metroid game... even greater than those in Super Metroid.foxhound_fox

Quadraxis... hell I love that battle.

Ya. MP2s bosses were much better than the first one, and I liked how it was actually difficult aside from my other complaints :P

I just dont like it as much cause the whole light anddark world back and forth. It made the game a headace for me and felt more like a choir then fun.finalfantasy94

Yet another complaint I've never understood about Nintendo games in general. The light/dark worlds allow for twice the amount of exploration.

Why is it a "headache"? Not only is Dark Aether contextually sound within the story... aside from perhaps A Link to the Past, its the best use of the light/dark world design element. And what is bad about it at all? All I ever see is people complaining about it being bad but never explaining why.

Naaaaah, the dark world felt gimmicky and the ammo for the weapons felt stupid. The backtracking in it was worse than the first, where I actually enjoyed it. There's a reason MP1 has higher critical acclaim and user acclaim >_>..Lethalhazard

What makes it "gimmicky" exactly? You complain about beam ammo but not missile/power bomb ammo? What's the difference? Even if you run out of ammo, you can still use the beam, except its incredibly underpowered. It makes combat more challenging since light ammo is very effective against Ing enemies and dark ammo is very effective against normal enemies and freezes them in place. It adds a whole new level of strategy to the combat that wasn't in the first. Instead of having unlimited of everything, you have to conserve your beam ammo for the tougher enemies that may or may not come along.

The backtracking was not nearly as bad as the first. You go from one place to the next. Unlike the first Prime where you find new items that unlock new paths in places you've already been, you just open up new areas altogether. And the fetch quest at the end is not nearly as frustrating as the first Prime.

~~~
As a further note of praise for Echoes, the boss fights and enemy design very much destroyed the first game. The boss fights were challenging and unique. Every boss fight was in stages instead of just do one thing over and over again until its dead like in Prime and all the other Metroid's. Chyyka, Quadraxis, Spiderball Guardian and Emperor Ing being four major examples. Quadraxis being the best.
They probably have never been able to get over the constant health-suck. And I agree with everything you say. MP2 = Best MP game.
Well to me it doesint seem to add much but a pallet swap. I never felt the light and dark side were different besides poison air. Why not just make a bigger world or send me to another planet. Thats my problem with it. It just didint add nothing to me.
Best of the 3 Primes. Light Suit = epic win
+ tons and tons of excellent backstory + best soundtrack of the series (which means a lot).
I havent played prime 2, ive played the other 2 but im interested in prime 2. Would you say prime 2 is to Metroid as Majoras Mask is to Zelda? Thats the general vibe im getting from this thread. MM is easily my favourite game of all time so i would like that kind of difference from the norm.
The layout was slightly different, there was a different visual treatment AND an entirely different set of enemies. Prime was basically a remake of Super Metroid in 3D. All the areas in Prime 2 were new and unique... as well as doubled up in Dark Aether.
Why not just beat them. It not like your going to get any big amount of cash for selling MP 1&2 GC version mainly since this is coming out. Its not like they control horrible on the GC controller. Just sit your butt down and play the game.
Echoes is to Metroid as Majora's Mask is to Zelda, yes (despite having only started MM, I can tell that it is very different from other Zeldas). It differs entirely from the rest of the series in that Retro took a whole new route with design of the game. Aside from Super Metroid, it is the best Metroid in the series. Echoes goes an entirely different route and not only paves the path very well, it does it in gold.
The items and weapons are among the most unique in the series. Unlike the rest of the Metroid series, its not the Chozo technology that Samus uses. And the places the game is set in (Agon Wastes, Torvus Bog and Sanctuary Fortress) are among the most unique to ever be featured in the Metroid series. You won't believe your eyes the first time you see Sanctuary Fortress... its something to behold.
How much of Echoes did you actually play? Most of the enemies in Prime were just re-skins of all the enemies from Super.
On my wish list, I'll be sure to get this one. But are you sure it's all in one disc only? That would be amazing :D
Doubtful. There are plenty of new, sealed copies kicking around everywhere for $15-20, and when this trilogy hits, they'll go down in value.
Yes, that's exactly what it is. Darker, harder, with a very different feeling (yes somehow familiar). It's quite probably the best Metroid game (I put it on par with Super Metroid). As I said, the content of backstory (and its depth) is simply awesome, and, even if you interact very little with the few characters, you'll really feel a connection with them (thanks to the incredibly well-written dialogues). And I can't think of many games that have a better soundtrack.
I beat all MP games. Yea but the fact of the matter is this is the first time the foes were in a 3d world/atmosphere. So it didint feel(for the lack of a better word)cheap since its the first time we seen them like this.
Good, i love it when Nintendo does something like that, obviously most Nintendo fans don't sadly. I will definately get prime 2.
Your so lucky, I would give anything to have a first playthrough on MM again. Like i have said countless of times, MM is the most depressing/dark/morbid game i have ever played which i love. Im sure you know this but this is a game where sidequests should be mandatory. Make up about 50% of the game.
Enjoy.
Uhh I dont think so dude. Theres no way you can fit all 3 games on one disc.
MP1 = 1.5 GB MP2 = 1.5 GB MP3 - 4.7 GB Smash Bros. Brawl = 8 GB It fits.
When you can get games like The Orange Box, Europa Universalis 3 Gold Edition, Civilization 4 Complete, GTA4, Forza 2, Burnout Paradise and this amazing Metroid package I wonder why people still buy 6h games.
Vgboxart does good work. But it might be better, since it's only one disc. But then again, NoA doesn't seem to stop the it's 20 year long tradition of giving terrible box art to their games compared to their overseas companions.
[QUOTE="finalfantasy94"]I just dont like it as much cause the whole light anddark world back and forth. It made the game a headace for me and felt more like a choir then fun.foxhound_fox
Yet another complaint I've never understood about Nintendo games in general. The light/dark worlds allow for twice the amount of exploration.
Why is it a "headache"? Not only is Dark Aether contextually sound within the story... aside from perhaps A Link to the Past, its the best use of the light/dark world design element. And what is bad about it at all? All I ever see is people complaining about it being bad but never explaining why.
Naaaaah, the dark world felt gimmicky and the ammo for the weapons felt stupid. The backtracking in it was worse than the first, where I actually enjoyed it. There's a reason MP1 has higher critical acclaim and user acclaim >_>..Lethalhazard
What makes it "gimmicky" exactly? You complain about beam ammo but not missile/power bomb ammo? What's the difference? Even if you run out of ammo, you can still use the beam, except its incredibly underpowered. It makes combat more challenging since light ammo is very effective against Ing enemies and dark ammo is very effective against normal enemies and freezes them in place. It adds a whole new level of strategy to the combat that wasn't in the first. Instead of having unlimited of everything, you have to conserve your beam ammo for the tougher enemies that may or may not come along.
The backtracking was not nearly as bad as the first. You go from one place to the next. Unlike the first Prime where you find new items that unlock new paths in places you've already been, you just open up new areas altogether. And the fetch quest at the end is not nearly as frustrating as the first Prime.
~~~

As a further note of praise for Echoes, the boss fights and enemy design very much destroyed the first game. The boss fights were challenging and unique. Every boss fight was in stages instead of just do one thing over and over again until its dead like in Prime and all the other Metroid's. Chyyka, Quadraxis, Spiderball Guardian and Emperor Ing being four major examples. Quadraxis being the best.

The boss designs were better, I'll give you that. There's something about the original I can't pinpoint that just makes it better. The enemies in Prime 2 got really repetitive, most were Ing and would always morph along the ground, I wish there were more natural enemies like there were in Torvus Bog. Now, with the gimicky part.

All they did was copy paste the light world and dark world which made backtracking between the two very annoying. It was unnecessary and they could have done without the burning darkness that made exploring a chore for the first half of the game. Other than that, I just plain didn't like the environments compared to the first one. I thought exploring was much better in the first than the second. They're still both AAA I just prefer the first one, a lot.

I think it's just because Prime 1 was so new, it could not be duplicated. Just like other games that were really innovative. Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess and Mario World are superior in every way to their predecessor, but you can't help being so praiseful of Mario 64, Ocarina of Time and Super Mario Bros., respectively.

Also, I HATED collecting the keys each time you had to go into the dark world. **** that, I'd rather have different objectives.

Loved 1 and 2. 3 was good but I hate how they broke the game world up.

[QUOTE="shutdown_202"]I havent played prime 2, ive played the other 2 but im interested in prime 2. Would you say prime 2 is to Metroid as Majoar's Mask is to Zelda? Thats the general vibe im getting from this thread. MM is easily my favourite game of all time so i would like that kind of difference from the norm.foxhound_fox

Echoes is to Metroid as Majora's Mask is to Zelda, yes (despite having only started MM, I can tell that it is very different from other Zeldas). It differs entirely from the rest of the series in that Retro took a whole new route with design of the game. Aside from Super Metroid, it is the best Metroid in the series. It has the most unique and creative elements and worlds. Like I've already mentioned, Prime is basically a Super Metroid remake in 3D, with all the place names/boss names changed. Echoes goes an entirely different route and not only paves the path very well, it does it in gold.

The items and weapons are among the most unique in the series. Unlike the rest of the Metroid series, its not the Chozo technology that Samus uses. And the places the game is set in (Agon Wastes, Torvus Bog and Sanctuary Fortress) are among the most unique to ever be featured in the Metroid series. You won't believe your eyes the first time you see Sanctuary Fortress... its something to behold.

Yeah. You got that comparison right in the beginning. I hated Majoras Mask, as I hate Metroid Prime 2.
