MGO is mediocre at best.

So after playing the incredible single player, I thought I would try out the MP. One of the first "inconveniences" is taking the time out to make a Konami ID. Is this really necessary? Why could they not keep the online uniform like other games?

Anyway, the second major drawback is the fact that there is no party system. How I am going to organize all my friends into one game? Oh yeah, I have to re-add all my friends again. Despite this major annoyances, I thought I would still give the game a chance.

After playing a couple rounds, the game is unbalanced. People are getting headshots more often than normal kills. There complications between my mic and the game, the maps are stale, getting into a match is confusing.

So ultimately I was disappointed with Metal Gear Online. After the unmatched single player experience, i thought the MP would be at least half as good.

1. Understandable
2. Firmware 2.4
3. Your not used to the gameplay
4. COD4 spoiled you too much.

thats the problem of most games this gen.

theres mulitplayer just for the sake of it

waynehead895

I blame Halo for making Multiplayer more important than single player. GTAIV and MGS4 prove that multiplayer for its own sake is not worth it.

Wait why? There were games before it where MP was far superior to SP. And on consoles. Golden Eye I'm looking at you.

Halo is the only game where I know people who never even touched the single player.

What about CoD4? I have friends that pretty much exclusively play that game, and haven't made it past the second level on campaign. Those people are stupid, IMO, the campaign in Halo is great, and I've heard that CoD4's campaign is excellent.

Naw it's actually pretty fun.

The lobby and matchmaking system is a horrible, horrible joke that infuriates me, but if you can get past that, the actual game is pretty fun once you get into it. You just have to do things you can't do in normal shooters, like hide in a box, wait for someone to pass by, shoot him in the head with a tranq gun, then crouch and knife him or give him a nice slow headshot.

It's not as deep or satisfying as COD but it's not broken and is certainly better than GTA online.

I think the online game is pretty awesome. That's probably because I play sneak most of the time and being snake or MK2 is so much more fun than TDM and DM.

The HS issue - if they can HS you so easily, you should be able to HS them easily too, so how is that part of a balancing issue? People say it requires too many hits to die, simple solution, make these 'easy' HSs and kill them in one hit. (2 hits depending on the distance and wep used as well).

Only problem I have w/ the game is also the no party system. Everytime I play w/ friends, we have to find an empty/near empty room, and all of us have to join it at once and hopefully we end up on the same team or its a game where we can pick the team. Playing w/ a group of friends is such as hassle on MGO but 1 or 2 friends isn't so bad.

Halo 3 SP> CoD4 SP. I still have yet to complete it cause it's Boring IMO. I was pleased with Halo 3's SP. Not enough to wanna do it on Legendary though.

I don't really see myself playing MGO anymore. It was ok, nothing special. There are better ways for me to spend my time...like playing through MGS4 again and again.

Meh I found GTA IV's online to be better than MGS4's, mostly due to customisation. In GTA IV, if you're not enjoying it, you can simply start your own custom games, free roam, do whatever you want. There's a massive amount of stuff you can do, where as in MGO there isn't. If I want to play a stealth only game, I can't because the game restricts me.

I played it for twenty minutes, feeling annoyed for most of the twenty minutes. The controls aren't nearly accessible enough for online. The controls were meant for single-player, against NPCs. I can't hit L1, Triangle and R1 before someone knifes my ass.

The ID issue is a pain. And having to add friends again is too. But playing with a party or clan is pretty easy, so is getting into matches. It's even simple to find exactly the type of game you'd like to play. Not sure how the maps are stale compared to a game like COD4... the environments actually offer a bit more strategic variety than any of the other online shooters I've played. And ppl only get headshots b/c they've learned how to line them up in first person view.

The matchmaking sucks, that's why I always do free battle where you get a list of servers like most pc games, its much better than automatching imo.

I found the controls pretty easy, having played through the complete sp already. Everyone is using the same controls you are, so it is pretty balanced. You can choose to always aim in fp, but it's not even necessary... and it really isn't that difficult to tap Triangle... but hey, I definitely think that MGO is really only going to appeal to a specific crowd. Personally I'm enjoying it more than I did COD4.

The free battle is awesome... you can find all types of games/rules available (or create your own)... but my only problem with matchmaking is that it can take like 2 min to fill up some times. Still, most of the time it works pretty well for me.

I enjoy playing MGO even though i came from playing COD4on the 360. There is many issues, lack of teamwork. Seriously the people playing right now think its COD4 just run around and shoot but they're in the MGS universe now thier tatics have to chance like hide in cardboard box, or use thier enemy locator grenade to plan ahead your kills, or play dead(trust me it works in chaotic situations). And every time the match starts everyone likes activting the SOP system but in the end just ignore it? i try to help my teammates by adding the monomania, narc skills to help my teammates where the enemies are at but i guess they never pay attention well going back to MGO

I consider myself casual in my gaming habits. I work, workout, have a decent social life, and when thats over, I game. I picture "harcore gamers" as guys that game all day and night. The whole hardcore versus casual argument is flawed. Like somehow some games are harcore and some are casual. I mean maybe a dude that only plays Madden games on his slim PS2 that he bought a few weeks back, I guess thats an ok example. The only hardcore I know of has nothing to do with gaming.

I agree with you. I do not see how there can be hardcore games. Shouldn't hardcore mean the actual amount of time you spend playing?

Kind of Agree but its not as complicated as you make it out to be....Other than the re-adding of friends.

After playing a couple rounds, the game is unbalanced. People are getting headshots more often than normal kills. There complications between my mic and the game, the maps are stale, getting into a match is confusing.

Im sorry but get good. Headshots are the key to this game. You have the players that play as if they are in a clan with sop, the sneaky people with the knifes, snipers, and the headshot pros. Get over it; Get good or get out. Thats how it is and everyone has to adapt. This isnt a game you can just pick up and play right off the bat( not going to mention any game names).

So ultimately I was disappointed with Metal Gear Online. After the unmatched single player experience, i thought the MP would be at least half as good.

Thats you. I hope you at least give it more time. Join the beginner lobbies. They are dedicated to rank 3 people and under. No 4+ allowed....or just join the automatchmaking thing.

Yeah, I will be giving the game more time today. I hope this issues won't get in the way of me being able to enjoy the experience.
