So apparently you can buy gmp (the in game currency) and speed Motherbase development. Not your online forward operating base, but the single player Motherbase. So yep, not just cosmetic accessories in MGO.

It's stupid, but at the same time it has zero affect on me. If some chump out there wants to spend money to unlock the same shit that I'll be playing to unlock in my game, can't really say I'll be bothered by that.

Where are the fanboys who called me stupid when I said MGS5 would probably have microtransactions for the base building after the first gameplay footage started coming out?

Gamers are idiots they'll buy the game and support this kind of BS. I don't like being nickeled and dimed. I'm a die hard metal gear fan but no way in hell am I going along with this. I was going to buy this game day one but now I'm going to wait a year until it's under $20 used.

This seriously has me thinking about quitting modern gaming. I have a gaming library that spans 30 years. I'm thinking about going retro only. I'm not at that point yet but almost. Only because I know there will be a few games without this kind of BS. The Witcher gave me hope that not every dev is out to rip us off.

Someone help me understand the issue here.

So they're not keeping content behind a pay wall correct? I can play my game and build my base without spending a single extra dollar. But if somebody else out there wants to speed through their game and buy in-game currency they can.

Sooo Konami is being a greedy whore and preying on lazy gamers, but they're not withholding anything from people who just want to play the game at the normal pace.

So what's with all the the dramatic reactions?

Are you guys upset that some gamers will be taking an easy route through their game? Or is this just some "evil corporation" angst?

I'm genuinely curious, am I missing something here?

@ConanTheStoner: You didn't expect a knee-jerk reaction like this? C'mon, muh Conan. But yeah, it's a non-issue. I have no problems with microtransactions as long as the game isn't effected. For example, it becoming obnoxiously grindy.

Jeff Gerstmann from Giantbomb said it best:

"Tired of playing this game, but maybe I can play less of this game by paying you more money."

lol.

Bros. I play games all the time, but...

1. I've never paid for a microtransaction.

2. I've only bought DLC once (Super Luigi U, was a great value)

3. I haven't paid for Live in about 7, maybe 8 years.

4. I never paid for PSN.

5. I never bought a season pass.

6. I only pre-ordered for a bonus once, again it was about 7 years ago.

^

I don't buy into any of the bullshit yet somehow I still manage to enjoy modern gaming very, very much. The industry is full of shitty practices, but you'd have to be blowing it up under a microscope while ignoring all the awesome stuff for it to be that much of an issue.

@freedomfreak: That is the problem with this they make game grindy so that people want to pay to bypass the bs. They make the game so there is incentive to pay.

You know this how? You played it?

Of all the games I've played that had time-savers like this in it, I never felt the urge to buy them, because the game never felt grindy. Like I said, it'll become problematic for me once I notice something like that.

Dramatic much? You could always, you know, not buy the microtransactions. Why care so much about how other people are going to play the game?

The way I see it, the people who decide to spend their money on content that can be unlocked simply by playing the game deserve to be ripped off.

Why do I care? because it sets a bad precedent. When people willing except it it becomes the norm. When I buy a game I expect to get the full experience. I'm not going to pay full retail for something then be told if I want the rest I have to pony up more cash. Most of this dlc microtransaction bs amounts to nothing more then extortion. I come from a day when I payed full retail I got the full experience without stuff being hidden behind pay walls.

You are getting the full experience. You just have to play to access all the content which can optionally be obtained by purchasing it. You're still able to have the experience you want to have with nothing being hidden behind paywalls.

So spare me the "I come from a day" bullshit, because I came from that day just as well. Unless it's being shoved down your throat and serving as a blockade for some truly important content, there's really no point in bitching.

@freedomfreak: and why not be angry? This nikel and diming is getting ridiculous. All other mgs games you got different costumes, guns ,gadgets etc... in game for completing a challenge or searching an out of the way location... that's most likely been replaced by spending real world cash.

Do some of you people stand up for anything or is it always acept what companies , governments , people dish out?

Uhm no. It's all there. It's just that the game allows players to spend money to speed up the process of acquiring these things.

There's nothing to stand up to. Wanna not buy it? Buy it used? When it's on sale? Go ahead. I'll be there, day one, and enjoying the game. I'll leave the purchasing of microtransactions to people who feel the need to use them.

Every bit of news that comes out of this industry, gamers simply jump the gun. Freak out. Not me. I'll complain when something properly bad happens. This does ****-all, so I don't see the need to throw a fit.

I would have gladly paid $5 dollars to have Drebins codec conversations cut by 95 percent, and maybe even a $14.99 dlc pack for Otacon acting classes.

@freedomfreak: I'll buy it day 1 as well, but I am concerned. I don't know what this microtansaction entail.

My concern is it becomes the norm, and starts a slippery slope trend to more of this. Next thing you know, games have treasure chests that require real world cash to open in traditional single player games .. oh wait (ac:unity) and that become always online so people can buy this stuff..making a game unplayable years later when they cut servers(even for single player games)

That type of thing bothers me. I don't like what happened to mobile phone games. It's hard to find an original phone game without micros or iap, unless it's bases of a pc game port.

Mobile has become shit because of greed and idiot casuals who lap it up. I don't want console/pc gaming going the same route.

And I'll let my voice be heard when it effects the game itself, design-wise. As far as we know, it's to boost mother base building and such. So, nothing more than timesavers. Totally optional. If a person doesn't want to spend time getting this stuff by playing the game, he/she can pay money to accelerate the process. I'm not interested in that.

I also never had to pay to open a chest in AC: Unity. Don't know where you got that.

... How could people not see this coming? And why would you not expect the worse with this? People seem to have forgotten Konami sold MGS5 Ground Zero, a 5 hour game of a single map, for $40... After that kind of behavior this gen, why would any one be shocked by this development?

Dude, forget it, anyone who actually thinks like that probably doesn't like gaming that much in the first place.

Gaming is currently at its very best. It's cheaper, there are more games then ever, and it's more accessible then it ever has been. Anyone who is thinking of dropping gaming because of some microtransactions or DLC simply doesn't love the hobby enough to care about it.

Good; this is how it should be if Konami really wants to milk shit. If Richie Rich is too busy making business deals with world leaders to play a video game for more than a few hours a day and would rather spend money to earn ingame progress, then fine, let him. But don't let it affect me. And even if grinding out GMP the normal way takes a long time that's also fine with me since Ground Zeroes promised a fun, mechanically perfect game.

Of course people are going to lose their shit regardless, because they think a headline tells the whole story. So far, this isn't AC Unity's chest-opening bullshit where you HAD to spend money to unlock stuff in the game. There isn't much to complain about here.

@freedomfreak: wasn't there blue chests that brought up an iap screen to go to the phone app to buy it's content? Maybe I'm wrong, but that sounds immersion breaking.

I traded in unity before getting past playing as a kid, as I was getting stuck in rooftops and walls.

Yup. They patched that out because it was dumb.
