MGS is a realy great series but its not really much of a system seller

I agree man, if any game will sell the PS3, it's going to be Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction. Best series on PS2, along with God of War. Something old PS2 owners will actually want to play, an established franchise that will draw an established fanbase, unlike Lair and HeavenlySword. MGS4 wll have a fanbase too, but is it loyal enough to drive up PS3 sales? Remember R&C have the kiddies and the teens, and that's where mommy and daddy come in to buy a PS3. Hey, works for Nintendo. That's the game, if any, that will sell PS3s.

Userbase doessn't matter. If you can pull in 3 million on any system then it is selling systems to people.

We ll you forgot that when MGS 2 came out, there weren't 110 million PS2s also how do you know MGS4 won't sell that much?

It's a very popular series. Worldwide at that. I have no exact figures for ya but I know it's comparable to other Sony platforming franchises like Jak, Crash Bandicoot and Spyro.

Before you bash me here me out a sytem seller is a game that people who don't have the system will buy the system just for that game. think of MGS as Oblivion, a Stupendous game but not much of a seller. Mgs II sold 7 milion copies, thats is alot! But compare to the 110 million Ps2s out there, thats a 6% attach rate. Mgs III did even that much it sold like 5 million(not sure on MGS III but sure on MGs II) in all fairness 110 million people is alot to sell to but if Gta sa can sell 12 million i think a MGS game shouldgoodknight_13

Wow, MGS in all fairness is a system seller. Not all 110 million people bought GTA SA, GT 3, God of War, etc. Its impossible to sell that much. but MGS 4 can be a system seller, its a very popular series in the US and Japan. So yeah to say MGS 4 cant sell systems is wrong. I have a standard tv, so the PS3 is basically is something id waste good money on, but if i had an HDTV id buy a PS3 for the Bluray and This Great Series. MGS is one of the best game series, and it will have one heck of an ending. A game with that kind of fanbase will sell PS3 consoles. Will it make it the holiday winner, no. Halo has a bigger fanbase, so does GTA, and the combo of GTA and Halo will be more effective than an MGS/GTA combo. However, i still believe MGS 4 will be a huge seller on the PS3.

i fail to see what reason you could have to bring the xbox into this topic. 

There's some truth to it.  MGS2 didn't sell too well despite the super hype when Kojima released the awesome E3 2000 trailer.  But what Kojima did is raise the bar on every developer that pretty much says, "Hey, look at this game.  If you can't do this then what will gamers say after seeing my game?"

Because after all those ppl bought MGS 2 many, which I don't agree with, left the MGS series because they didn't liked raiden, thought the cutscenes were long and didn't like the complex plot.

MGS3 sold 4+mill copies not sure why it didnt sell more but it was more playable than the others with a full 3D controllerable camera

It should be great, but I still doubt its system selling ability

almost all hardcore ps3 owners will buy it but i'm not sure about casuals

also i think only harcore gamers have the ps3 right now so is that good or bad. both good because MGS will have good initial launch but might dwindle in sales later on but buy MGS come aroun i don't think that will be much of a problem
