MGS is a realy great series but its not really much of a system seller

MGS III is cool and  I reckon the reason you say it didn't sell any consoles is because most people had a PS2 at that time. However the amount of hype that MGS 4 has built up, it is probably going to become a system seller. It's sort of like Halo 3 or Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Wii and X-box 360. SO based on that, MGS 4 will be the system seller for the PS3 and when that comes out I'm going to buy one.Robot_Vampire

So? Not only your facts are twisted but what some don't get is that Gears of war is a new IP and it sold great, even if past MGS sold less that doesn't mean MGS 4 won't sell more.

It is quite simple really to explain it...MGS3 can be a system seller if it is in the right place at the right time. It is a big fish. Only problem is...What happens when you put a big fish in a pond with bigger fish?

The prime markets for MGS series have always been NA and Europe. JPN is does well but nothing really impressive. What happened to MGS3 is very easy to explain...They thought it could compete heads on with games like GTASA, Halo 2, Madden, World of Warcraft, Half Life 2...You can say the biggest IPs. And one thing in common with all of them is...Big all in the western Market. And MGS just is not big enough to get any hype then outside of the fanboys. MGS2 was the game on PS2. It was the biggest game out that winter in the NA Markets. Halo was unknown, SSBM came out too late, GTA was unknown, nothing really to compete with others on PC. Pretty much it was all about the PS2 with MGS2. MGS3 on the other hand...Probably was not even in the top 5most anticapted games for that fall/winter. No hype^^

There is a difference between being a fanboy...And actually looking at this logically. What do you think will happen if MGS4 comes out this year in 2007? Except this time it is not on the system of choice but the last place system in those regions? Not to mention several far bigger titles are comming out. And lets also add in how Nintendo is definitly having all the hype. What possible thing does MGS4 have going for it outside of the Sony Fanboys Rant?

Thing is you seem to think MGS3 sold less only because it was next to games like HAlo and GTA, but also many of those who didn't like MGS 2 were still reeling from that and that was a factor as well, you can't compare MGS 4 hype which is similar to the on MGS 2 had to the on MGS 3 had, let alone that there's less competition in the console it's coming out, which needs games like MGS.

Before you bash me here me out a sytem seller is a game that people who don't have the system will buy the system just for that game. think of MGS as Oblivion, a Stupendous game but not much of a seller. Mgs II sold 7 milion copies, thats is alot! But compare to the 110 million Ps2s out there, thats a 6% attach rate. Mgs III did even that much it sold like 5 million(not sure on MGS III but sure on MGs II) in all fairness 110 million people is alot to sell to but if Gta sa can sell 12 million i think a MGS game shouldgoodknight_13

Metal Gear Solid is almost a cult following. I am in a huge minority of gamers who is buying a PS3 because of MGS4.

MGS doesn't sell all that well, it isn't a system seller, and it probably won't get AAA.

Those 3 things, right there, are why cows really need to stop hyping MGS4. Cause I would say 50% of them, won't even buy it. It's just the biggest game to hype right now for the PS3.
